KentuckyWrestling.com HS Rankings - 2008/2009 PRESEASON March 5

Topic ID: 3722 | 136 Posts

Okay, the moment so many of you have been waiting for.  The opportunity to start debating next season.  I've taken out the seniors and moved a number of guys that I am pretty sure are moving weights.  I also plugged in a few middle school guys, although I admit I don't know enough about many of them.  So enjoy the first round of the preseason rankings.  I'll probably update once a month as we see how fat everyone gets during the summer and who is working hard to improve.  As always, I welcome constructive feedback.

I can finally breath. Thanks. But...I beat Maynard something fierce when I was wrestling up a weight class. :-D

Okay, I did need to make a few adjustments at 171.  Probably not the only weight.  I assume you are referring to Menard from Oldham County.  Where was that?  Keep the info coming.

I believe that Tj Ruschell will be Ryle's 103. He wrestled part of the year at 103 this year but was just too small and is trying to put on muscle for this upcoming season.

I wrestled him at horsepower. It went like this:

*Inside trip [back points kaching]

*Escape for him

*I think a double for me

*Head levered him a few times for back points and then stuck him. It was either late in the first or early in the second.

Also, the only time I wrestled Meades was over the summer at South End wrestling where I stuck him in about a minute.

I did get beat by Gardner when I bumped up to 189 at Horsepower.

I am extremely impressed with these rankings.  Some of those kids were not even at state and you still researched them, who beat who, and ranked the ones who seemed the best.  And sticking middle school wrestlers in there also!

I acknowledge that they aren't perfect (as Danger was so quick to point out), but I put in some work to do the best job I can.

DUH, I can't believe I forgot about Ruschell.  Got him.

I can't turn that down.  Gotta love those frozen dairy treats.  Especially after wrestling season.  Oh yeah, I forgot, I don't have to make weight any more.

Where was he at region?  He didn't place top 6.

i dont see supe at 103 next year considering he missed weight at least twice this year

Where was he at region?  He didn't place top 6.

his grand mother passed away earlier that week and he was in Evansville for the funeral

You don't have Proctor at 145.  I think he was injured the last part of the season.

You don't have Proctor at 145.  I think he was injured the last part of the season.

I knew he fell off the face of the earth, but didn't know he was injured.

what about cole proctor he was ranked in the top 10 and now hes not ranked the reason he didnt go to state last year was an injury

wow could this be a new record?

In a little over an hour after the rakings were posted we are already on the second page.  :-D

what about cole proctor he was ranked in the top 10 and now hes not ranked the reason he didnt go to state last year was an injury

I beat you to it.

I beat you to it.

I want to say it soooo bad. But I don't wanna get banned. I think you know what i'm talkin' about. :-D

GREAT rankings but at 135 i think it is i dont wrestle for nelson and im not a senior

anderson and 10

Preston Shoopman wull be at 152 this year so he wont be at 160

andy lenz and zac brown will be closer than that... they had a couple good matches when they wrestled this year

145... Really??? Coxs over Pile when Pile Tech Falled Him in Region Finals... As well as shut him out?????

anderson and 10

Nor sure what happened there.  I fixed it for next time.

145... Really??? Coxs over Pile when Pile Tech Falled Him in Region Finals... As well as shut him out?????

Yeah, I need to look at that.  But they were both a little inconsistent last season, but the head to head definitely favored Pile.

For 152 i don't think that clark from Valley will be a 152. He has very low body fat and was struggling to make weight from what i was told

Yeah, I need to look at that.  But they were both a little inconsistent last season, but the head to head definitely favored Pile.

pile wasnt to inconsistent he only lost like 64-5 matchs in the regular season lowest ranked kid he lost to was adam lynch i know he lost to beau sanders, korey shotwell bumped up and beat him, sammy isaacs not sure there is anymore and then at state lost to harrison ans ervin

130 looks a little weak.  :|

4-5 not 64-5

no dee leavel is planing on going 112

no dee leavel is planing on going 112

oh wow he seemed big this year

IDK if joey henderson will be wrestling next year because he supposemly got kicked off the team at regions because he lost and threw a fit

I think Dee can make it..

robbie vaughn from sk will be back next year either at 112 or 119 and norberry might go 125 again

I think Dee can make it..

Dee has been weighing 111 110 throught out the year. We actually got onto him for not weighing very heavy, we would make him eat spagehtti nights before tournaments this year. He will definently be back at 112. They said he won the Mater Dei tournament at 119 this past weekend. He also had a good match with Dan Smith and Dan Weixler this year at state. Sorry for the SP

and here is my bold prediction kevin cooper will be a 4 time state champion no doubt about it he'll place wherever he's at next year

and here is my bold prediction kevin cooper will be a 4 time state champion no doubt about it he'll place wherever he's at next year

I wouldnt go as far to say that he will be a four time state champ. By the time he is a freshman he will be at a weight with many very good seniors. I do believe he will place next year though.

i believe zack tucker from southern should be ranked. yes hes dropig down to 103 i think he might make some noise to the 103 pounders so i believe rankable.

Matt Young for UNION you have him at 145, when he wrestled 140 he weighed only about 130 did it for the team being underweight I think he did an excellent job. probably will not be that high(145).

Robert Moll (Cald) beat Robert Geralds (Chr. Co.) last season at a dual at Paducah Tilman

There were only 3 this year.  And they are graduating...so unless there is a tiny senior or one decides to cut as much weight as Elam, Badgett, or South, then no seniors.

badgett didnt cut that much weight from what he told me he came into the season weighing 109

He was either the tallest or one of the tallest and skinniest wrestlers (him and Merriweather) at 103.  I just would have loved to see Bradbury and Elam in the finals.  Those two were way above the rest of the competition, it's to bad they had to meet up in the semi's.  But good job to Palmer for making it to the finals.  Not many kids stood up to Badgett (the kid is intimidating) but Palmer did really proved himself on the mat, good for him.  Sorry for the off-topic rambling.

James seemed to not try very hard his last few matches at state. I wanted to see him go all the way.

james badgett is a ginger and not very intimadating i know i saw him everyday for two years

I know he isn't intimidating. lol. I saw him last year and, even though he was the best wrestler on the team, he was getting picked on between round like he was a seven year old or something. I thought that was pretty funny.

ahah but yeah he might be a ginger but hes one beasty ginger yeah he looks skinny but he was the strongest kid i wrestled this year well execot for elam he was oretty darn strong

What about Patrick Dozier from Anderson Co. at 103??

He's not bad.

Go drink some hater-ade. lol :-D

i believe zack tucker from southern should be ranked. yes hes dropig down to 103 i think he might make some noise to the 103 pounders so i believe rankable.

He has to get to 103 first.

He has to get to 103 first.

understandable. oh and blakemore beat dee allen at staste 1-0

yeah

Robbie Vaughn isn't in the Rankings???

why :? :? :? :| :|  :x :x :-( :?

I meant Badgett was intimidating compared to most of the 103.  He towered over most of them.

As always, I welcome constructive feedback.

hmm well Ranger its been awhile since ive been on but if you want feedback i think you should keep the rankings down to top 20. i mean to rank the 32 that went to state +3 more thats not a big accomplishment. i think being ranked should be an accomplishment not just something you get just for going to state.

yeah but me and him were the same height, meriwether was really tall tho

yeah but me and him were the same height, meriwether was really tall tho

I don't remember to many tall 3's besides Merriweather, Badgett, Elam, and I'm not sure but South from North Oldham looked kinda tall, then again he might hae just been wrestling a short kid.

yeah elam and merriweather were about the same and south was shorter than me and badgett by about a inch or 2

I've talked to him a lot over the last month.  But I'm not convinced he will be back.  He is a good guy and has some talent, but when he tried to come back this season you could tell he wasn't ready.  Will the summer off be enough to get near 100%?  Maybe.  But I'm not convinced.

Fair enough.. his return is doubtful.. Depending on physical therapy

i miss Robbie Vaughn

This is starting to get rediculous. lol. Just kiddin'. You know I love you like a fat kid loves cake.

Danger, you're too much. What an idiot!

Love you, too, mama.

At 130, Bryan Thompson from franklin co. beat Jack Podgorski twice this year and a few times last season. He has never lost to Podgorski as well

Do you think that Jake Lee will be at 171 next year.  There will be no reason for him not to return at 160.

Not likely unless he has a significant growth spurt.

Cody Ward has also beaten Jack Podorski and Bryan Thompson, both by major.

brent feher from apollo is going to be someone to watch out for in the 119 weight class he placed 5th at region  last year and he is working hard this off season i could see him in the top 10 by seasons end.

I can't possibly see Bradbury any higher than 112.

It wasn't Ward who beat Podgorski and Thompson.  That was Maxwell.

I don't understand what puts Shawn Johnson at #1. He didn't have a very good tournament. He lost to two guys who also didn't place.

Ok good point, but who else at 125 is going to be ranked 1st? Shawn Johnson is the best wrestler ranked at 125 right now, and its not like he is just going to stop wrestling over the summer, he isn't like that, hes going to work hard im sure.

I am going to take a wild guess and say that either Carr or Zarth will be at 125, and will be #1.

It wasn't Ward who beat Podgorski and Thompson.  That was Maxwell.

Maxwell also has beaten Podgorski and Thompson but Ward has as well, at Super Duals to be exact. He went 8-1 that week. I'm only saying something because Ward is the one who is no ranked, Maxwell is ranked #11 at 135.

wow 5th in region.. thats impressive puts u at like between 33rd and 40th in state... so if you want to be top 10 its gonna take alot of work

I was looking back at some results at the Armstrong Classic and Joe Rupp placed 6th behind both Corey Robards of Henderson County, and Wade Willen of UHA. Neither of these kids are ranked at 103lbs....Did Rupp do something at state or emerge later in the season....Not challenging any assumptions...Just dont remember him that

He did in fact beat Shane Parks (State Champ) this year at the Dragon and lost by only a few at regions.

one 103 i think might make some noise is chris coy i believe his name is he is strong and fast so i think he will be top 15 easy

all through the year he was ranked in the top 15 at 112 but got put out at region he is going to have a break through year this year.

Dusty Brown CC WILL be going 135 next year

Cody Ward has also beaten Jack Podorski and Bryan Thompson, both by major.

cody ward beat him by 1 point and then lost by 4 the next time they wreslted, jack was also trying to cut to 125 and didnt have energy the first time the wrestled

Yeah Chris Cory from PCC. He's pretty good, got a pretty quick little high crotch

i think luna should be #1 cause johnson and harper and thomas and others didnt place he did

i disagree Shawn Johnson has beaten the state champ Shane Parks and Luna has lost to Thomas.

yeah when i wrestled him at state i blinked and he had my leg lol

i disagree Shawn Johnson has beaten the state champ Shane Parks and Luna has lost to Thomas.

But to mention shane parks, state champ, made luna look like a fool in the simis. i don't think luna should be as high as he is, he isn't a very constant wrestler, who knows when he might just want to quit. Johnson for now should be ranked 1st, because as of now we don't know if Zarth or Carr are going 125, so till then, plus who knows what the lower ranked kids are going to do, let the season tell.

You have a Jeremy Dailey at 130 and he didn't wrestle at all this past season.

You must not remember the Luna of his 8th grade and freshman years. Luna will not be quitting anytime soon. If inconsistent is placing 6th after wrestling only a month after being out for over a year, I'd be scared to wrestle him after practicing all season. Not to mention the fact that he was forced to wrestle up a weight due to the new weight management rules.

I give him credit, he showed up and wrestled well placing 6th.  But you can't use the weight rules for justification.  Everyone plays by the same rules.

I give Luna credit as well.  But look at the bracket.  He was by far in the easiest Quarter.  He had to beat Harper in the Quarters to get to the semis.  Harper was descent this year, but not great.  He then on to lose his next three.  Lets face it, he had a lucky draw.

Oh I know, I was just pointing out the fact that 125 wasn't even the plan for Luna but he still managed to place.

Ranger

There are two Walls boys from Bull. One was a senior last year and the other was a junior.  The 152 (SR) 160 (JR)

indeed he had it way easy. Also #19 Zack Michael (Moore) beat #4 Ray Harper (Seneca) 2/5 times and the last time they wrestled Zack lost in overtime in the region finals.

Kyle Terry from CH (8) beat number (2) Austin Palmer from ryle today up at a ohio tour.

What was the score?  Was it a good match and how did it play out?

it was 4 to 4 the final score but the tounament rule was that first point scored wins no over time and palmer coulnt get up in the last period.

That's a good win for Terry, but if they face each other at state next year and the score is tied, it will go into overtime.

yeah but still good match it seems what weight were they at and was anyone else from KY ther and did anything?

a lot of the ryle kids (peace, osborne, palmer), some woodford kids, and alot of kids with no-ox. more people from ky than i thought there would be

Terry and Palmer were at 119

Region I is coming up....Three teams in the top 25!!!!!!!!

2. Union County

18. Christian County

23. Henderson County

Keep it up guys. Lets get some more teams up there. When competition rises in the region, you will see more results at the state meet, where it matters

norbury is gonna be at 125 next year definatly he is gonna keep his weight down all summer long how do you think he'll do there

3 of the top 25 teams belong to 1 region.  By the law of averages, that seems to make absolutely perfect sense.  That makes them average.

Of course Union County is awesome, but Christian and Henderson are okay.

haha, this is true. with 8 regions, probability says that each team has 3 teams within the top 24. so i agree.. it really is nothing special.

PD isn't exactly a powerhouse...lol

Region 1 as a whole has had down years the past couple of years. But were stepping up and thats what it takes to progress as a region and become as dominant as the region 7.

At 215 (5) jacob ilg of newport pinned  (2) Old Co  Ichiro Chiba at state.

Yes.  But he also lost to Pace.  And Pace lost to Chiba.  It's about more than that one match.

People seem to forget that alot. Think about this.

171 07-08 season:

Wolfe lost to Dunn

Dunn Lost to Garcia

Garcia lost a Cusack

Do you think Cusack would beat Wolfe?

In my opinion, unless you watched and remember the match, a pin is the result least likely to change the standings.  A pin might mean that you dominated your opponent but it also might mean you were losing 13-2 and caught them in a move and in rare cases he might have pinned himself.  Winning by points, especially if it

I was just wondering you don't have David Dickson ranked in 103 but he has beaten both chase boone and wade hotsclaw and they are both ranked please look in to this.

Josh lewis ranked #4..... I don think so....
