Who will win it at each weight and who could be the suprise state champs next year?
State Predictions 2005-2006
Topic ID: 4 | 91 Posts
103: Travis Sullivan will go undefeated in state
112: Caleb Wood unless Sullivan moves up, weak weight class!!!
119: Coty Lewis but will have competition from Tyler Voth
125: Ben Warner will dominate unless Derek Scott, Daniel Thueneman, or Eric Bryant goes/stays here
130: Eric Bryant will go undefeated against great copetition in hardest weight class (saw him at a camp, he is just that much improved)
135: Jacob Murton would be hardest weight but everyone will go up or down to dodge him (best wrestler in state)
140: Joey Sanders would lose at lower weight class, he is better at this weight, would just lose muscle and have to wrestle harder competition at a lower weight
145: Harrison Courtney
152: John Wolseifor he is awesome
160: Austin Cooper
171: Will Starks, Greg Ashworth, or John Phillips (no definate stand out guy)
189: Starks will win his 3rd easily
215: Taylor Sherer
275: Mike Clark, Kyle Goodrich, or Dale stone
I attend all aau tourny's and camps, in and out of state these are the stand-out wrestlers, there are more but are not as impressive as these. No offense to anyone.
im pretty sure murtons goin 130 so he can go to senior nationals at 130
I do believe that warner will have a rough time when the season rolls around because of derek scott. Just an opinion.
Will Warner and Scott be on the same team this season :?:
ive heard it as a possibility. but if they aren't then they will be battling.
Can wrestlers move from state to state or team to team.If you can , Im moving to woodford.
At 160 watch for Bryant Barnhill (Larue) and watch out for this guy that is trasfering back from ohio to Whitley County at 103.
Is Derek Scott or Thueneman going back to 125?
Can murton still make 130,they said he was in the 150s at camp.If he does will he be as good pound for pound as he would be at 140?Twenty pounds is alot to lose when you are skinny .He is still the best in state. Please Jacob give us the answer so everyone can move up or down.
Why would Murton kill himself to make 130 when he doesn't have to? He will run through whatever weight class he wrestles at next year. As far as Senior Nationals goes I think you can wrestle at whatever weight you want to. I don't think it matters what weight you wrestled during the season, I could be wrong though. Someone who wrestled at Senior Nationals this past year should tell us, or someone should check it out.
I would encourage people not to run from Murton, wherever he goes. He's the best in the state at any weight class, and is who you should want to beat. I wouldn't have much pride in myself if i were a state champ (i'm not) who got there by dodging someone.
I suspect guys like Scott, Thuneman, Sanders and the likes wouldn't run. I think one of those guys on the right day could beat him if they landed in the same class. In the spirit of the question posed at the beginning of this thread, thats what i'm throwing out there as a possible surprise. I'm not predicting it though, so don't call me a fool !
You have to wrestle what ever weight you did at state, unless you wrestled at a lower weight at state duels.Like kyle did this year.Lawrence county will not be at state duels.Hope theres a small school state duels. They better let them in.
eric bryant is way overrated, i was at the CC camp with him and he got beat by scott high schools 125 that isnt all that great, i mean he got crushed by him. and scott's 125 didnt even place
who you talkin about LOWSingle ? Was it Scott's 2005 112 pounder maybe who gained weight in the offseason ? Because if you're talking about Scott's 2005 125 pounder, that was Thuneman, he is an animal and took 3rd at state. Thats after blowing the match where he was beating the eventual state champ.
But even if it was Thuneman that crushed him, that doesn't bode well for Bryant either. There were several other 125 pounders that could wrestle with Thuneman, basically every guy that finished in the top 5 at 125 last year. He was not a head and shoulders above the rest, he was better, but he couldn't dominate any of the guys in the top 5 in that class. I've seen him wrestle all the top 5 finishers at state minus Ozzie Parker and they were all very close matches. And every top 5 finisher is returning.
By the way, i was skeptical of that undefeated claim at 130 earlier. It will be a brutal class, but maybe some of the 125 guys will split off to 135 or stay 125. Still, i see him getting beat. I declined comment as i hadn't seen him wrestle during the offseason and gave the benefit of the doubt, but hearing that i wanted to help open the floor up with this post.
you all arent giving eric enough credit, ive been around and hes worked as hard if not harder this offseason as any of the other 125 guys. he mite not go undefeted but hes got a good shot at winning state.
In retrospect that seems fair wcwrestler. I'm not saying he stinks or anything like that. And i haven't seen him wrestle in the offseason, and that might have been one day where he was sick or something. After all, if that weren't the case i don't see a nobody from Scott smoking him. And if it was Thuneman who did the smoking, the dude that put that post on there didn't have all the facts right ... so then i question those circumstances.
But i think undefeated claims after a 5th place finish at state are a bit much. I recall claims on this board last year if i'm not mistaken of going 119, beating Ruschelle, and being the MOW that didn't happen. I'm not sure who posted that prediction, but I see this as more of the same. I'm sure the elite 125s from last year as well as anyone else winding up at 130 saw that post and will have him in their sights and in light of this hype with all that talent in this class i'd be concerned trying to win state under those circumstances.
it wasnt thuneman, maybe it was like scotts 30 maybe 35 pounder, the point is that the scott wrestler is not too good. yeah i give him some credit and yeah anyone has a shot at state, but hes as cocky as it gets and way overrated. good luck too him though.
I watched most of the matches at cc he only lost to a florida state champ who was 10 pounds heavier.Their was a scott kid there around 150 .Parker was there he looked pretty good.Wheeler was 175.

I'm sorry but I went to all 3 Cumberland Camps (to watch), and Bryant looked very dominate, he killed everyone he wrestled except for Frank (Florida State Champ). He will win it at whatever weight he goes!!! Also, you said that Bryant was cocky, Bryant is the most uncockiest guy I've ever seen, he is a very nice young man, when he would get done dominating his competition, he helps them up and congradulates them.
Parker also looked impresive, he also killed everyone he wrestled,
Bryant and Parker scraped some and at first Ozzy was coming out on top, but then Bryant started using his head and was on top then, Ozzy was about 10 pounds heavier, Hope these guys are at the same weight, it would be a great match.
Aother wrestler that impressed me was Patrick Banks, he also beat everyone!!
I also look for Bourbon County to step it up in a few years, they have a young squad, but they are tough (not like they are going to win but just look for them to do better).
As for team predictions next year:
1. Woodford
2. Larue
You tellin me Ozzie was 145 ?!?! Cause i'm hearing Bryant has been around 135. 135 + 10 = 145. Unless Ozzie has been pumping iron like a madman, but bulking up that much for his frame is a lot. If Ozzie indeed weighed that much, it was probably because he got fat. And thats not making for an optimum performance.
I take it Parker wasn't one of the ones he killed. Which brings him back down to just being good but far from undisputed to be undefeated. If he didn't kill Parker, there were a few other guys at 125 last year that could wrestle at or above Parker's level (Scott, Thuneman, Parks).
Hence, you made my point.
bryant isnt all that grand he was getting whipped at the cumberland camp
well he did as well last year, but anywayz do you know how the Kentucky wrestlers did down there with the Florida,Georgia,Ohio,Tennessee guys and all???
idk wat u were watching monkeyroll, but ozzie owned eric when they were wrestling. eric bryant is completely over rated, and parker is underated.
Well I dont know what the weight will look like, from what I saw at Campbellsville Camp
Pat Banks real big, losing to the 170 pounder Ben Rupp
Ozzy lost to everyone at the camp, including low placed wrestlers from state, excluding Jacob Murton, and Robert Smith who he both faced,he also lo0st to Ryan Ross from Harrison County
I think Eric Bryant will compete good at 135,I think he can do anything if he really wants to,and Cocky is something he isnt
u guys werent watching at all, yeah ozzie wasnt wrestling too hot but he only lost like 3 times. he didnt get beat by everyonee
The official weigh-in sheets had Bryant at 131, and had ozzy at 148!!!
Lowsingle140 must be ozzy, he must have got hammered by Bryant and now holds a grudge!! That is hilarious . Ozzy is a great wrestler I hope he isn't lowsingle140.
Lowsingle isn't Ozzie, i've talked to Ozzie both online and off and it aint him. The guy doesn't come off like Ozzie does, have you ever heard Ozzie criticize anyone even constructively ? Don't try to smear lowsingle by making him out to be Ozzie with a grudge because you have a grudge yourself because he doesn't agree with you. That is as equally hilarious as it would be if you were right about him being mad about losing.
By the way guys, if Ozzie weighed 148 (which i highly doubt, some fool probably wrote a 4 instead of 3 by mistake on a sheet) he's FAT. And hence out of shape. Remember this, offseason wrestling means nothing really. If one guy works out and stays in shape in the offseason, what happens to this advantage when everyone else gets back in shape ? They catch up to close to where they were relative to that guy. When i ran track in high school i beat people in the offseason i had no business beating, because i kept running more than they did out of season. Predicting me to dominate the track championships would therefore have been a laughable thing. Improvement is logarithmic, not linear, and as a result one won't retain the gap they've put between themselves and others in the offseason. As a result, judging next year based on out of season workouts is never accurate because who knows how much conditioning each guy is doing. And yes, conditioning plays just as big a role as technique in beating someone.
All i'm saying is don't judge someone from an offseason camp. Once again, i'm not dogging on Bryant. I'm just saying, lets save the speculation until we actually see guys wrestle for real when the season starts. Judging on last season at this point is probably a better thing to do based on the conditioning argument, and then this can be started up again when the season starts.
Eric did pretty well at CC i only saw him lose 2 times there. It was a Pretty good camp all together. I think one of the coaches was named Medders, but he was a great teacher. But my hero for the CC camp was Josh Cooper he totally kicked butt down there.
This is Pat Banks by the way and Wrestling Rupp at Camblesville was a tough challenge. He only beat me by one, it was a good match. We were short some people so i bumped up a good 20 pounds, that made me realize how out of shape i was lol
yeah josh cooper is a stud. i cant wait too see him down state. and about the whole ozzie eric thing, im not ozzie, and ozzie smashed eric. and eric weighed in at like 136 and ozzie weighed in at about 145, yeah hes getting big, hes gain a lot of muscle and he doesnt look anywhere near fat.
and im from northern ky, last i heard ozzie didnt live or wasnt from northern ky. yeah i know i have been running my mouth on here and i appologize. but eric in MY oppinion is overrated, and ozzie is underrated.
and before this gets out of control and everyone thinks im ozzie, im not. ozzie wouldnt run his mouth about one of his own matches, ozzie is a great kid.
Wow, Ozzie with that much more muscle is frightening.
for eric to be so overrated yall have talked about him an awful lot,,almost 2 whole pages just about him
A lot of people talked about Freddie Mitchell from the Philadelphia Eagles, if you wanna argue like that. Got my point ?
freddie mitchell is awesome, but you all are the ones callin him overrated and you keep talkin about him
Mitchell ???? The only reason he got talked about is his hair.
i think this is a wrestling chat, lets not get off topic,, and speakin about hair randy moss's hair was crazy,, i dont see how he got in his helmet when he didnt have it cornrowed
ok i give eric some props for beating rusty at the BGSG. that was pretty nice.
103: Travis Sullivan will go undefeated in state112: Caleb Wood unless Sullivan moves up' date=' weak weight class!!!

You think Sullivan can beat Caleb Wood.........YOU are crazy he wouldnt come close to beating him.
heys guys low single140 isnt ozzy parker this is me right here
i finally got my name back on here, but i cant believe someone said i weighed in at 148.... i weighed in at 140
i hang out with ozzy everday he is weighing aaround 139-140 range who know u might see hiim in the state finals in the 125 weight class
excuse me on top of the poteum at the state tourney
I was sayin, there's no way you were that heavy !!
and they were saying eric beat u down cumberland!
nah we was goin at is but he needs to guard his legs alot it was to easy to take him down but hes decent and coo.
From the earlier post,I dont see Travis beating Wood,Wood already beat him bad the last time, and it neither hasnt changed much over the years
I dont understand why people think Eric Bryant is cocky and overrated,Joey Sanders is cocky and overrated
bryant is a cool guy and a great person i wish him the best of luck at w/e weight he goes
ive never met joey sanders. and eric is very cocky, he even has a liscense plate that says state champ! if thats not cocky idk wat is..
but sorry if i offened anyone (eric) he is a good kid, but i think in MY opinion hes a little overrated and some cocky. and u guys are saying he could win it at any weight he goes? id love too see him go 30 if murtons going there. but best of luck too him...
He really has a license plate that says that although he has never won state before, and although I think he's a good guy but he wouldnt win at any weight because if that was the case he wouldve beat Kyle Ruschelle which wouldve been real nice, and I dont understand how you feel he is cocky lowsngle140,I get along with you rather nice even after giving up my shot for 3rd because of some distractions,so you two would be koo than, but I think I know what this all about, they dont give you, your props being ranked nationally as a sophomore and everything, and you could win it as well, but in time you'll show them,My buddy Eric is kinda overrated but soon you'll be as well!!!
who do u think i am?
im not who u think i am, i dont know u. and yes he has a liscense plate that says that, but he has yet too win a state championship.
eric bryant is a very nice kid...he is a good wrestler also. his technique may not be the greatest but he is a great scrambler!! Good for college level if he persues that!
Looking at these posts I dont see anyone talking about some of the best wrestlers in the state to look out for...like Scott, Parks, Thuneman! It Looks like everyone is getting hooked on bryant and parker..
this is that scott kid i wrestled 130 last year i am not cocky but i did beat up on bryant at the cc camp
i went 2 cumberland and yes bryant did have a license plate that said state champ
If he does have that then it would probably be refering to the aau state or the freestyle state, which I believe he has won both several times!!
He is one of the most humble kids I've ever met!!
My goodness, this one is out of control. I haven't heard a prediction in two pages, so i'll make one.
The state meet, will once again be held in Frankfort  At least we can agree on that !
ok these are my final words, its extremely easy to win freestyle state, and im sure he didnt have a lot of competition. but fine eric is perfect and will walk throught state, cause i know thats what you want too hear.
my predictions are..
103-sullivan
112-caleb wood (weak weight class)
119-coty lewis (but watch out for voth)
125-thuneman/bryant/scott/warner, it depends who goes where
130-murton
135-sanders
140-courtney
145-josh cooper (he will surprise you)
152-john wolseifer
160-austin cooper
171-w. starks
189-r. starks
215-sherer
heavyweight-stone
and watch out for barnhill from larue at 160, he will surprise u too.
he may not win it, but will do good
bryant is goin 130 thueneman is goin 135 and scott is goin 130
hmm eric will get crushed by murton and so will scott, and idk if thuneman could beat sanders..
you forgot to say sanders would get crushed too,he did alot of running last year,he couldnt handle jake,so instead he went for the 8th grader I guess that was a good idea
That "8th grader" only had one other person place in front of him. Lets not spin facts to suit an agenda. That "8th grader" took second at middle school nationals as well i think.
I don't think Murton would crush Scott. Possibly a major, but a tech or a pin i don't see. After all, Scott lost by 10 to the national champ at Junior nationals. Yeah, someone said the match was worse than the score looked ... but still you're claiming he could do what the national champ did. And i didn't see Murton's name anywhere in the top 30 of the overall national rankings last year, i checked. If i missed his name, i apologize and please correct me.
I did see like almost 5 guys from OH in every class though, that place makes me sick !
smith is a great wrestler and accomplished a lot his senior year but saying that u wernt trying and thats why another wrestler won is being a sore loser
my predictions are..103-sullivan
112-caleb wood (weak weight class)
119-coty lewis (but watch out for voth)
125-thuneman/bryant/scott/warner' date=' it depends who goes where
130-murton
135-sanders
140-courtney
145-josh cooper (he will surprise you)
152-john wolseifer
160-austin cooper
171-w. starks
189-r. starks
215-sherer
heavyweight-stone[/quote']
I don't disagree 112 isn't as strong as last year.
But I fine it hard to believe Caleb will be at 112 :?:
He is a returning state champion, why would he stay at 112 when he could win 119, unless Malcolm Jackson stay's at 119
FC103 if your out there what is your take on this discussion :?:
follow up ... the way Murton is doing right now at Freestyle nationals he just might make the rankings !
If Jacob does this well at Fargo @140 why woulf he cut to 130 :?:
Fargo is tough :!: If Jacob was going to cut this would have been an event to get any advantage.
if i was caleb i would try my hardest to stay at 112 that would be an easy state championship for him.
if i was caleb i would try my hardest to stay at 112 that would be an easy state championship for him.
I can't disagree with that
Caleb will have to work at 119 with Coty, Voth and a few others.
If he wants an undefeated season and an easier way to a championship; yes, 112 is the way to go :!: No one will beat him down there if he can make the weigh
Any one from Fern Creek have any insight :?:
I think Caleb can go 112 or 119, the weight isnt a problem for him. I think Coach Hall and Caleb will discuss it and decide whats best for him and the team. But I dont think Caleb will be looking past anyone at either weight 112 or 119, and I dont think he will consider 112 an easy way to a championship. Theres to many kids out there looking to knock of the champ, he knows he will be getting everyone's "A" game all season regardless of what weight.
Caleb is a very tough and smart wrestler.
I agree, he will never over look anyone, and everyone no matter what weigh will like a chance to beat a state champion or have a close match.
My opinion was their many tougher kids at 119 than 112.
I would have guess Caleb had grown out of 112, be he is a junior, maybe he'll wrestle 119 for the beginning of the season and 112 at state then go to junior nationals @ 112 like Kyle this year (exception kyle wrestled 119 @ state and 112 @senior nationals :?:
caleb too me doesnt look strong enough to be a 119 pounder, if u stand caleb up against coty lewis u can see a difference in muscle, and even coty will be having some competition with voth. but good luck to caleb either way he goes.
Did Voth or Lewis wrestle in the blue grass games :?:
If so how did they do :?:
I haaven't seen or heard any results :x
Voth only had one match and he wrestled Jeremy McGinty. He graduated 2 years ago. Voth won by 6 or 7 points.

You really think that Ben will be at 119 again :?:
i dont think eric will win at 119 and if be goes he will have his hands full.
Also not tryin to talk bad to my boy dereck scott but he also is goin to win cause i talked to murton and he said he was goin there.
but yano thats jus my opinion
You say murton is going 135 then ? I would like to Scott wrestle Murton sometime, just to see what would happen.
