That is really cool I'm glad I found out about this before the season. Now I know who to root for.
thats whats up finally got a kentucky booy on there!
zack bontrager from fort campbell is in the mma now
I've been training for almost 7 years now. Wish I was as good a wrestler as I am a fighter. lolzack bontrager from fort campbell is in the mma now
i just started trainin last week in mma.
I admit that I love watching the UFC/MMA. However, I contend that it is bad for high school wrestling and has no place on this board for High School Wrestling.
tiltfor3 how is mma or ufc bad for high school wrestling. In my opinion it may be what saves it. Wrestling has always had the problem of no professional sport. It has been tried and failed (Real Pro Wrestling). This gives kids who don't have a family background in wrestling an interest in it.
I have talked to many people who are training in MMA. Most have everything they need except a wresting background. Most say that those with wrestling backgrounds make the best MMA fighters. If this is true then it gives high school wrestlers an avenue to follow after their high school and or college career.
oh yes he di-ad
and i agree 100% with grappler of old
i've heard that from just about every fighter i know. if you can't wrestle u won't servive in any mma fight which pushes kids who want to be fighters into wrestling which in turn makes our sport grow.

Ya he is 2-0. But I think he isn't fighting right now. He is going to VMA and might actually be varsity his Freshman year in Wrestling. I think he said he is going to start fighting again after he graduates
Browning did really well last night and was getting big props from the coaches along with the Pres. D White. Glad to see a Kentucky boy on there that is good. A couple of years ago they had a young man from Fort Knox on there but he really wasn't anything to brag about.
The kid did really well. Dana White really likes him. White said that in tryouts (not last night) Browning asked him how he wanted him to finish his opponent. White told him triangle. White said that Browning put his guy in a triangle, waved to White and then pulled the guys head down to finish. Browning did make one statement that worries me a little though. He said, "I here there's free alcohol in the house, that's not good". Hopefully Browning has watched past shows and knows that he could really mess things up if he overindulges. Anyhow, really cool to see another KY kid on the show.
yea man trust me, he told me everything. dana says he is the craziest person ever to step in the UFC or las vagas for that matter
he will be attending Tates creek duels and other wrestling tournys, just come up and say hey hes real cool
anyone know, what he placed when he was wrestling in high school?
anyone know, what he placed when he was wrestling in high school?
In 2003 he went 2-2 at 160. That was in the first days of the Bourbon County program and he didn't get a chance to really develop before he graduated. His brother did pretty well. Robbie had a real funky style. He finished 4th at 140 in 2004.
he only wrestled one year. he moved around alot. the best he ever did was go 2-2 at state his senior year.

First off wrestling doesn't need to be saved, maybe KY wrestling does. Wrestlers don't need this kind of motivation, I suspect you used to wrestle for the medals and trophies. Knowing I was the best was always enough for me.

so basically you never had enough, haha
but seriously where did you come off saying that he use to wrestle for the medals, that doesnt make sense
and he was right, those who are wrestlers at heart need something to do after highschool and college and mma is the perfect thing for it.

WOW  One of three things have happened here.
either
1. You totally misinterpreted my post
2. You just want to get me started
Or
3. Your a mental midget.
To clarify my statement and answer your questions.
1. Being saved may be a strong statement, but. More and more kids are turning to basketball because there is something after college. (unless you go to WWE or TNA). If you look at my post closely it states. "Gives wrestlers something to do after college".
2. MMA, and the such will get more kids involved, so that they become wrestlers. I did not have a family full of wrestlers (only 1 before me), and was lucky that I stumbled across it as a 9th grader. I have now gotten several of my family members to wrestle. You can't find out how great the sport it if you don't experience it.
3. I will give you this "WRESTLERS" don't need this kind of motivation, but they do need an outlet for their wrestling needs after high school or college.
4. Yes I do like shiny things. I have made several wind chimes out of my medals and have them hung in my room. I turn the ceiling fan on and listen to them every night, its how I get to sleep at night. I have a wrestling trophy screwed down tight on every end table and use one of my MOW as a center piece at the dinning room table.
5. Knowing you were the best? Oh I get it now, you relish in your victories, bragged about them while in high school. And still brag about them now after years has passed. Your one of those adults who can't live past their high school days, because they are the greatest days of their life.
Oh and before I forget. I already know I
I didn't mean to strike a nerve. Your top three reasons were correct, especially my mental height. I guess I do agree with you about the need to get the sport some exposure, although wrestling has been growing (maybe mma/ufc related)http://www.hswrestling.net/high-school-wrestling-participation-is-up/. I guess we just come from different places and have different viewpoints about wrestling and what it means to us. I do appoligize that it came out so harshly.
Lastly, I am way too busy trying to figure out how to raise two boys, pay a mortgage and put $4.00 gas in my cars to even think about my college wrestling days much less brag about my high school ones. I enjoyed the glory days and my sons enjoy the old movies, but that's about it. You missed my point about winning, some states give you the bracket sheet, that's it.
Ahh how nice it is to finally get someone who can take it as well as dish it.
I little fun never hurt anyone, especially if you can mix some seriousness into the mix.
No harm no foul. Ya made me smile :-D
C'mere "Clancy" and let big ole GOO give you a bear-hug :-D

Ohh, now nothing like a nice bid bear hug on a chilly Sunday morning, thanks.
Ok, now that I have accepted the fact that the Bengals aren't gonna win a game this year, I can get back on the subject.
I do agree that the mma/ufc phenom is good for the numbers of wrestling. However, I am a little leery of some of the motivation for kids to get involved in wrestling based on the mma popularity. Some of the things taught in mma are extremely dangerous, and these moves can be done by anyone to anyone. A sixteen year old (give or take) doesn't have the maturity to know when self-defense becomes assualt or worse. And this isn't only for h.s. kids, there is a certain level of responsibilty with knowing how to break an arm/leg/neck/etc, or choke someone to death (see Jennifer Evans). I know this is deep, but I do worry about someone being severely injured or worse.
In my last post I said "a certain level of responsibilty", I should have said a high level of responsibilty.
Back to the topic,
I am a bettin man, Junie B. screws up on the show. Just a hunch!

You are probably right. Too bad though, because he looks like one of the toughest lightweights on the show. From what I have seen so far I can only imagine one or two guys competing with him.
dont worry guys he doesnt
I hope not. I enjoy watching the show and now that we are represented by Junie it is that more interesting.
Not good for KY
that kid goes to the finals....i dont watch the show because i dont really like soap operas but thats what i heard
after seeing the way he acts you would think he would end up getting kicked off, but he is just too good.
plus i dont think that someone who got kicked out of the house would have a blog on ufc.com but junie does.
i think junie is the guy that dana was talking about when he said we have the next anderson silva.
I hope not. I enjoy watching the show and now that we are represented by Junie it is that more interesting.
Could you say "you" are represented by this drunk, not "we"

Sorry, "I" and not "we".
It's like looking into a mirrow...Not good for KY
if u dont think he is good for ky just wait till next eppisode!, its forreal 10x worse

Didn't see this weeks episode, What happened? From the comments it does not sound good. Hope he gets his head screwed on straight. It's great to be a fighter but you still have to act like a professional.

Rob Smith will be fighting in Warsaw IN oct 18th he will be in the cage aginst an IN. wrestler and a MI wrestler. 145 and looken ready
Is this Robert Smith from Eastern?
I don't think so. Robert Smith from Eastern is training MMA right now but doesn't have a fight comin up soon
Actually yes, Rob does have a fight coming soon on Warsaw IN oct 18th . Ontheroad coach (G) is his trainer (as well as our middle school coach). Rob wrestled for other places besides Eastern.
Robert actually started wrestling at Central before he went to Eastern.

I stand corrected then, I thought Robert had a while til his next fight.
it doesnt matter how he acts really he is bad butt and is great for kentucky.
got Junie Browning!
Not such a great spokesperson for KY wrestling, or people in general. Allow me to quote "that's all the UFC needs is another boring a$$ wrestler" or something to that effect. In his defense he may have been drinking, I don't know, but that's what he said.
So he doesn't support wrestling, I would hope wrestling would not be supporting him.

he is still one of the best fighters i have seen, just wish he acted better.

haha i kno he will be down
i know he is some of your alls buddy but he acts like a jack ass....wrestling is 50 percent of mma....so how can he say something about someone using wrestling..i hope somebody spanks that a** he needs it...you sit there and watch him cry because he thought he was gone then he turns around and tries to fight again..dana needs to send him back to lexington...no one feels sorry for him
Junie Browning Goes Berserk
Drinking & Fighting Don't MIX
Chance of a Life time vs alcoholic ? Such a waste

WOW! shut up im the only one who knows him on this board its a REALITY TV show he boosting the ratings. He wrestles alot in MMA. he is the one who preches about how wrestling and how important it is. Its one thing to take some one down and lay there and then theres another when u take someone down and better your position, thats what he does.

WTF was up with the crying, my God get a hold of yourself. He is dead or in prison by the end of the decade, not too hard to write the end of this book.

wrestling being 50 percent of mma = wrong
lets see the stand up game ranges from boxing to mui thai to clench and dirty boxing.
Stand up = 40
jujitsu is all the positioning, defense, and offense of fighting on the ground, also throw in ground in pound as it helps with positioning
jujitsu = 40
Wrestling is takedowns and takedown defense
wrestling = 20
plus i think your taking it out of context junie said "all we need is some more boring ass wrestlers" its obvious that junie wants "GOOD EXCITING WRESTLERS"
i cant wait to see him win the show and then listen to all of you cry about how awful it is. face it, he is raw talent and funny and very entertaining. so what he cried and tried to fight a couple of people, show me one person that has been as drunk as him who hasnt done the same.
kywrestling - not necessarily disagreeing with your breakdown, but jujitsu does not get exclusive rights on ground and pound. It's not like you don't learn basics of that within wrestling. Something else to consider, it was posted on this website a while back an article that talked about how something like 40% or better of the MMA champions at that time were from a wrestling background. Part of the reason I'm sure this guy Junie made this comment is because there has been a LOT of wrestlers do well in MMA. That's not a coincidence. Think about it.

well i might be wrong but i think junie wrestled in highschool.
but i think he was saying that it sucks when good wrestlers come in and takes a guy down and just sit there. (like dan henderson did to silva) but i must say i thought efrain did pretty good and ultimately beat shane on his feet.
but when you see a wrestler like bader who comes in throwing punches taking people down working for position and throwing some nasty ground shots then that is a good wrestler-fighter transition.
I don't know how many of you guys train mma, but I've been competing in grappling tournaments all around Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee and West Virginia for over two years now and my wrestling background has trumped alot of jujitsu guys. I don't hold any belts in any form of karate, I've just trained no gi- grappling and have beat several brown belts and countless purple belts due strictly to takedowns and ground control. Jujitsu is in "MY" opinion highly over-rated. And the best defense for takedowns, from what I have learned, is not wrestling its great stand up! And contrary to what the show has portrayed I've meet Junie at a grappling competition in Lexington a few years ago...He was the most outgoing person at the competition and was very polite. Complete opposite from what the show has portrayed. Good luck Junie...
My equation is
60% Stand up
25% Wrestling
15% Jujitsu, Sambo (Ten times more effective than jujitsu), or any other form of karate

your breakdown is so far off, look how many ncaa champs get subbed by bjj blue and purple belts that never wrestled a day in their life.
i love wrestling and it does play a big part, but i get worked by people i would stop in wrestling just because they know good jujitsu
So how many ncaa champs have got "subbed" by blue and purple belts?? I have no clue...I'm no way an ncaa champ but i know how to control the body especially their hips which is the most important thing when grappling against a jujitsu guy! And your crazy, well anyone is crazy, if you think jujitsu is the most effective submission fighting style...Cause judo is ten times more effective in takedown defense, throws, hip contol, body control and it uses the same types of submissions with chokes and joint locks. And sambo is ten times more effective than JUDO!! There is so many more slick submissions in sambo than in judo and jujitsu.
PS- If you ever get a chance to watch the Abu Dabi No-Gi Grappling matches you should. Look at how many wrestlers there are in the tournament and look at how well they do. That should tell you right there how key wrestling is.
I think Allen is a good fighter. Is there anyone who cares enough about him to teach him how to be a man? I assume everyone just wants to ride on his coattails, and no one cares about his health.
I'm not sure but from the people that I talked to who participate in some form of MMA they say you need (4) things.
1. Boxing
2. Another fighting style
3. Jujitzu (preferably Brazilian)
4. Wrestling
in no particular order.

funny that i have done all those except sambo and my jujtsu coach use to compete in sambo and i still beg to differ.
your wrong plain and simple and hip comtrol will get you in a world of hurt, if you focus on that then i will simply lead you in taking advantage of your wrestling background and leg lock you, just like frank mir did to brock lesnar.

where do u train at. im not to familar with other schools in KY besides 4 seasons and the louisville schools
he might win the show but someone is going to put him in his place..he is not smart enough to do anything with his talent..it is only a matter of time before he screws up big time...its bad when the owner calls you a retard..but he hit the nail on the head...you say its basicaly set up to boost the ratings...maybe if he wins ....that is possibly set up...obviously it is some what set up or the owner would have shipped him home....basically he may win the show but that is as far as his ufc carer will go...he said it himself "i am a screw up" could not say it better...sorry if your his buddy...he just needs a little AAwrestling being 50 percent of mma = wrong

This is a MMA post. not street fighting or backyard "never back down" stuff
It is MMA. Just because we find competition in our spare time and don't have mats doesn't make it something else. It's as technical a fight as any other. Just a different type of environment.

true your right, i cant say anything about u considering i kno nothin about u. i just get defensive about the subject cause there are so many MMA posers in the lexington area who think their tough cause they watch UFC or have a punching bag in their basement
I understand. My family doesn't have alot of money and I just now got to where I could afford to buy a TAPOUT shirt. I see people who clearly have never been in a fight that are completely decked out. It makes my blood boil a little.true your right, i cant say anything about u considering i kno nothin about u. i just get defensive about the subject cause there are so many MMA posers in the lexington area who think their tough cause they watch UFC or have a punching bag in their basement
I saw a guy today with a Chad Johnson jersey on. He clearly was not Chad Johnson and probably never even played pro football.

Chad Johnson isn't Chad Johnson. He's Ocho Cinco
I get your analogy but it's just different.
How is it different?
BTW, it was mocking, not an analogy.
Here's another one, I saw a guy today with a UK shirt on that probably never went to college.
