The Secret Food For Weight-Cutting

If you are cutting weight, you are either depriving yourself of calories, carbohydrates, fats or all of the above.  Not only is it dangerous, but ineffective.  Add this to your protein shakes to keep your energy without holding extra weight...

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil contains a healthy saturated fat called Lauric Acid.  It is a medium-chain triglyceride, which makes it more readily usable for energy when you don't have enough carbohydrates to support the energy requirements your body needs when wrestling.

I like to add 1 or 2 tablespoons to a casein protein drink if it's during the day or before bed...

Just don't add it to a postworkout/practice recovery drink which usually contains whey protein with juice or Gatorade... when cutting weight I find it best to combine either fats or carbohydrates with protein, but not to mix.  It's easier to drop weight when you only have 2 macronutrients mixed together during the digestive process.

You can use Extra Virgin Olive Oil instead of the coconut oil, but I prefer the coconut oil simply because of the high-energy output of medium chain triglycerides.

Oh yeah, a couple of more words about medium-chain triglycerides.  Back in the 80's it was popular to add MCT oil (medium chain triglyceride) to shakes, salads and foods when dieting down for bodybuilding contests.  It helped with energy, as well as that the individual could consume more calories daily and still lose fat.  It will work the same way with a wrestler in that you can give yourself more calories but they are calories that are rapidally used for energy.  This can help with making weight and still wrestling well.  Remember, always try out things when it doesn't matter ie. offseason.

Don't pull this one of the air for your first match of the season because you don't know how your body will adjust.  Also, too much of a good thing is never good.  The bodybuilders from the 80's also found out that the body requires time to consume more than 2 tbsp's of MCT oil per day.  If they overdid it, it tore their stomachs up.

Take it slowly, and adjust slowly... When used properly, Coconut Oil or MCT Oil can make the weight-cutting process much less devastating on your energy levels, and wrestling performance.
