Alot of you might have saw the match in the finals of state in 1996 where Carr stuck Tinsley. But did any of you see the Hotown Tourney Finals 4 weeks earlier that year. one of the best matches ever. Both wrestlers got put on their backs. No B.S. --- I thought that Carr got stuck.

My wrestling coaches speak of that match every year..where they believe carr was stuck but the ref was to shocked to see carr on his back and being pinned...
Joe won that match in OT i do believe
Carr did win in O.T. & he was stuck. That Tourney had Grady Peterson vs Chris dunn, Hank Pinner vs Ian Horn, Carr vs Tinsley, & Miguel Merritt vs a wrestler from Grissom AL that hadnt been beat in 2 years.

man those are all state finals caliber matches...would have love to had been able to watch those matches
Peterson beat Dunn, Carr beat Tinsley, Horn beat Pinner, Merritt Pinned Grissom.. That was the last time Woodford came to Hoptown.. Their bus was vandalized. Every finals match was nice.

Conrad Wilmoski also had Carr so flat you couldn't get a credit card underneath him. It was a district finals and Gene Washington ( one of the best) wouldn't call it.
I would love to have seen Carr vs Hank Pinner match up before Hank hurt his shoulder.

Image that Woodford County getting a call...lol lol lol lol
One of the best at what? Home cookin! The combo of Gene and Coach Parks/Carr was like Boss Hogg and the Boars nest.

AMEN!! Glad someone called that out. Please smite me on the way out.

I tend to agree with that assessment. Gene seemed like a great guy off the mat, but back in the day, get him in a big match involving Woodford and they always seemed to get the benefit of the doubt.
If i recall correctly...Tinsley tossed Joe to his back in the beginning on the match (the Dungeon erupted) and then Joe rolled through and stuck Tinsley in the 1st minute. ..and I do believe Tinsley refused to take the podium during the awards ceremony.
That was the rematch at the in the finals of state.... The match that Carr was pinned was the finals of Hoptown Tiger Tourney.
My son was wrestling in the finals at 103 for Caldwell County in that tournament. No question, Carr was flat on his back for 3 or 4 seconds. The ref was in shock and took his time getting down to look. You could see he wanted to call a pin, but just couldn't bring himself to do it. By the way, that was Carr's junior year. His senior year he wrestled another Caldwell wrestler in the state finals, blatantly slammed him, was called for a slam, and the Caldwell kid continued wrestling. In both cases, Carr could have, and perhaps should have, lost the match.
Cant remember who wrestled 103 that year.. was it sean cecil
No, Sean wrestled at 112. Jason Johnston was at 103.
yeah i wrestled jason after he went to Henderson in 1998. hope he is doing well
The State match was no comparison to the match these guys wrestled at Hoptown.
I've heard this story so many times from various sources. Woodford was in hostile territory that night, no doubt.

HAHA I don't even know what to say

yeah, they were treated very disrespectfully and never came back. Still it was a great tourney
No one would happen to have any video of this tournament would they? It would be awesome to see hoptown tourney footage back in their glory days, especially of miguel merrit and the carr/tinsley match.
Parks was genuinely concerned for his wrestler's safety that night. The gym walls were sweating aggression.
I think the Peterson vs Dunn rematch set the tone in the finals. And if im not mistaken, the Woodford bus got vandilized.
Ya, the bus did get vandalized. It sucks that had to happen because I know western Kentucky enjoyed having Woodford come see us. I can remember talking to Andrew before the match and telling him to be patient and wait for the right moment before he threw Joe Jr. I knew it was coming when he hit it, its just a shame he didn't get rewarded for such a great throw. I think that was the last time Woodford set foot in a western Kentucky gym besides their jr. high squad. They got lucky to get out of there with there pride intact after that night. That also has a little to do with why they never came back to our side of the state. We were just a little too aggressive for their tastes. :-D

Just imagine, Joe Carr Jr. 2x State Champion! 3x Runner Up!
I was there that year, in the stands as a freshman, first year wrestler. It was by far the best environment I have ever been in for wrestling, even better than the Dungeon. I will admit that it appeared Joe Joe was stuck and the place was going absolutley crazy! It was some of the best finals matches I have ever personally witnessed. There were some absolute studs in this state in 1996 and a lot of them were at that tourney.
I agree. Tiger Tourny was never the same after that. St X replaced Woodford in the years after and Grissom still showed up.. But the atmosphere wasnt the same
I was there as well that night.
I believe Parks got thrown out during the Peterson/Dunn match. Peterson was acting like a complete ass if anyone remembers. And the refs where horrible. But we see how acting like that got him in the end....more loses to Dunn/Talbott and a 4th place finish in state.
But I do admit, I thought Carr was stuck. Made the quick pin at state even more exciting.
Yeah Petterson was grabing his groin area at the Woodford bench, and laying on the mat in and un-sportsman like way. Talbolt was a beast that year! The kid from Conner was the biggest 119 I ever seen that he beat in the Finals.
Ya, I forget his name. He beat Dunn in the semi's in OT and lost to Talbott in the finals. That was a fun weight class.
Petterson was a defending state champ I think, Dunn was only a freshman, the Conner kid was tuff and Talbott was unbeatable that year.
Petterson was 2X state champ and undeafeted the year before.
Wow, Dunn beat Petterson twice that year. And he beat his buddy Shawn Smith who was a one or two time state champ as well.
That just tells you how good Talbott was that year as well. I think Dunn lost 7 times his freshman year and 5 of them was to Talbott.
yeah Smith also was undeafeted the year befor and ended up a 2X champ... If my memory is correct Dunn pinned one of them early in the year.
Let me say one other thing about that finals night, which was very, very high energy. Honestly, Woodford was the focus of a lot of crowd "energy" because they were one of Kentucky's best programs and "visiting" western Kentucky. However, what I remember even more than that were the finals matches pitting Kentucky wrestlers against Tennessee and Alabama (Grissom) wrestlers. I will tell you that EVERY Kentucky school was rooting for the Kentucky wrestlers, and congratulating the wrestlers who won. That was a neat scene. If my memory serves me, there were some TN and AL state champs who lost that night, in front of a wild, cheering Kentucky crowd.
yes you are correct. the 2 X Alabama undefeated state champ was pinned by Miguel Merritt
Ya, but all of us watching that night saw that coming. Miguel had that dudes number from the start of the tourney. :-D

really too aggressive?? where are your state titles, man i remember back in the day woodford wrestlers were like Aliens, they walked around with there gee hoods up and never ever talked to anyone, OK so aliens is a bad analogy, but u understand. Oh so you are the great mentour that gave Andrew the idea to throw Carr? wow way to take credit away, and you all forget refs are apart of the sport, bad calls are apart of the sport, and i can bet you the ref didn't just stand here while Carr was on his back with his mouth open, and i assure you IF Carr was stuck the ref didn't not call it out of amazement, he prolly didn't call it because Carr wasn't stuck!
Dang dude... Hit a nerve.. Drink to much coffee?? Oh I get it, you where there and saw it for yourself.. No? You just dont like WKY? No.......hmmmmm dunno then..
or by looking at some of you old post, you are a big Woodford Homer. No worries mate, great program as well you should be.
First off I wasn't there so I'm not going to talk like I was. However you'll were too aggressive for our tastes? The Woodford team was scared/humbled (whichever it was) and didn't fight back against those which they were outnumbered and you're calling them wusses? Wow man I thought the wrestling was supposed to be settled on the mat. Maybe I need to read the rulebook or something. If it is supposed to be settled on the mat then I would say that we're plenty aggressive enough, how many titles have we won again, I seem to have lost count.
Maybe you would like to pit your all-stars against the Woodford all-stars, make it an even match-up instead of 70:1 or whatever ratio it was. It seems to me that you'll have school buses and could come to Woodford if you wanted the competition, maybe you just don't want any. I would say Kentucky10 respects WKY as much as the next guy, just wanted to defend the Woodford team after they were attacked for no reason.
I would say those who talk against us are just jealous and wish they could be a part of something great, which is normal. Remember hatred, or in this case jealousy, is the greatest form of flattery.

btw I am a Woodford homer if you want to call it that. I prefer that I was born and raised in Versailles and am proud of my program's accomplishments. If you are unable to make the distinction then I'm sorry, perhaps you might be able to if you had gone to Woodford. :-D
trying to find were someone called you wusses...unable too Also cant speak on behalf of anyone elses post, so ill just stick with mine. Hopkinsville is 2nd on your champion list at state but has been unable to get out of this pathetic coaching slump after Ploesser retired. But hopefully now that Ennels, Pinner, & Diaz are there, just maybe the program will return to those glory days. Wrestling is un like any sport, it takes a process (maybe 3-4 years) to get back on track. It all starts with those young ones, so hopefully can come back just as strong as ever.
No doubt Woodford County reigns supreme in this state for top programs. But, I will say, no team conjerred as much fear from other wrestlers than some of the Hoptown boys ( change that, MEN). I'm not sure what Ploesser was feeding his team, but I'd like to know his recipe. I still remember seeing freshman Jarod Trice beat the snot out of a senior returning state champ. I think he either pinned him or may have teched him, if tech was in place at that time.
If Trice would have been given the chance to complete 4 years of high school, than he would be in the same conversation as Carr.
If Trice would have been given the chance to complete 4 years of high school, than he would be in the same conversation as Carr.
Given some of the stories I have heard about him over the years we may not even be talking about Carr with him.
Yeah, I think Ploesser grew him in his secret lab at the basement of the school. He was hatched not born hehe :-D
If Trice would have been given the chance to complete 4 years of high school, than he would be in the same conversation as Carr.
I have heard this and I would have liked to seen him wrestle. Perhaps this would have been true. Does anyone have video of him?
20 years ago... prob not. still locked up in the pen. as far as i know
First off, Kentucky 10, if you knew who I was i think you would be eating those words of yours because I did know Andrew pretty good. That being said, I did not call Woodford County wusses either, so not to offend you two, it was a joke about Woodford not coming back to Western Ky. The reason I said it was because Woodford used to play the edge of the circle in my day. Sorry you two took so much heart in what I said because if you want discuss issues about what happened at a certain event that you were not at then I guess you would like to argue about the 1994 finals match that Joe Jr. lost for real.

yea he was also a freshman that year and if u didnt notice he never lost another state championship after that!!
And I was there for all of his state championships and the one he lost. I know a little more than you guys may think.

im not saying you dont
im just saying that you cant really talk crap bout somebody that has done more in wrestling then you could ever do
When did I ever talk crap about anybody. I think you guys need to get over yourselves and actually read what I have been typing. I of all people know what Joe Jr. means to the state of Kentucky and our representation throughout the country, but I am not blind to the issue that we are talking about. I was standing along the side of mat during this particular match no more than 15 feet away. I talked to both wrestlers that day and wished both guys luck. Yes I am from Western Kentucky and did want Andrew to win. You guys from Woodrford attacked my particular comments and proclaimed them to be demeaning to the high and mighty Woodford. I have the utmost respect for them. Were you there that night? Did you see the match first hand? I am just giving my thoughts on what happened that night and reliving some old memories. So I am sorry if I hurt your feelings in telling my opinion, I guess some people just can't respect the thoughts of others.
I must agree, I really didnt notice any trash talkin from 119's post. But what do I know, ,,,, I'm just another WKY homer

alrite well im sorry i must have just took your opinion the wrong way!! my bad
No harm No foul.
119Rider;
If you are who I think you are from your litlle hints you dropped. You earned my respect and addoration before your final match of your high school career. I was one of the only ones outside of Wky who believed in the outcome of that final match before it happened.
It should have gained you the MVW. You got my vote that year.
HA!! I knew it!
Thanks Bulldog, you and about 4 others had faith. The MVP would of been a stretch though, too many multiple state champs coming out that year. Tom Cibull, Brandon Wilkens, and Bruce Stepp to name a few. Would of had to do something spectacular and I barely just held on.
Bruce Stepp pinned a dang good Eric Grubbs that year

what do u mean if i knew who you were, why do care who you are? I don't care if your a 4x MOW state champ stud, or a old washed up pud, and don't act like you know who i am cause you don't have a clue kiddo. i don't care if you were best friends w/ andrew, go read what you said " I told Andrew to throw him hahaha, i am andrews personal trainer hahaha, I should have the credit haha" You know even if you are all those things are true, the best coaches/ trainers are the ones that say it was all the athlete. Your like the ref that wants attention on the mat and randomly calls double stalling. I don't play nice rider

No doubt userdaddy, he must be a TOTAL hard a**. We all best watch out..... he ain't playin.
I'm pretty sure I never took credit for Andrew throwing him, but after wrestling Andrew about 8 to 10 times would mean I know his style. The aggressive comment comes from that because I also know that Andrew threw Mike Lee into the scorer's table at state one year. Andrew and I also were in a couple of matches where we threw each other. I threw him on his head one year at regional finals and he threw me at Franklin tourney in the finals and I popped a rib out on a ref. So therefore when I said Throw him it was because that is what he did really well. He was an athletic kid with great hips, sorry you didn't get to see him wrestle because he would of probably thrown you too. And your right I am an old washed up pud but I was there the night of the match and thats all that matters to me.
ANd when did I ever say hahaha. I don't laugh like that, i am more of the lol guy.
:| I loved it when the Lee brothers got their lunch ate in 95 .... WKY 4 Life!!!!!!

wow...that was like you just came through the internet and kicked me in the balls!! yes, i'd say WKY was pretty happy that day.
No disrespect bro :-D
No disrespect bro :-D
None taken. It's all good. Pinner & Hawkins were both awesome wrestlers. Those were big state finals matches that year. Pinner was a shocker to me...didn't see that coming. Hawkins I knew it'd be close, but thought Mike would pull it out.
wow...that was like you just came through the internet and kicked me in the balls!! yes, i'd say WKY was pretty happy that day.
I am assuming this is a Lee brother.. if so, which one got you Hank or Rodney?
I am assuming this is a Lee brother.. if so, which one got you Hank or Rodney?
neither. i'm an older brother. i did get stomped on by Aaron Herring my jr year though. i think it was like 16-5. that was like being thrown into a pit with a caged animal on cocaine.
Pinner was so great on his feet, and the Lee kid was a great mat wrestler.... Something had to give
Pinner was so great on his feet, and the Lee kid was a great mat wrestler.... Something had to give
yes, he was very good on his feet. he threw matt twice in that match i believe. it ended up being like 9-4 or 9-5 i believe.
Yeah, and Rodney had a body builder frame. Overall I think that WKY had one of, if not its finest, hour that year.
i seen pinner is back coaching at hoptown, what is hawkins doing these days?
That I dont know, but I see Hank & Willie everyday. He still is in wrestling shape and stille can throw a duck under or a high crotch from anywhere
i tried to talk mike & matt into going down to the bgsg....they are through with it though. no more desire to wrestle at all. they are both in good shape, but i wouldn't say "wrestling shape".
Its a young mans game :-D got a wife, kid, and a house note now. Cant aford to get laid up hurt

I think Mike could still make 145

You probably could too steve! You should throw a singlet on and school some of those young guys at bgsg.

Hey, don't encourage too many "good" old guys to get out there at the BGSG. I prefer to see the real washed up guys put out there cigarettes and tuck their beer bellies into their singlet and walk out on the mat to wrestle. That allows me to keep winning.

I really don't know if losing to a 16 year old is the way I want to end my carrier.

Ok Ross/Catan
Ross /Catan???????
That one is amystery to me too Daddy, unless he thinks I am a ref from the match.

did u read my post earlier, i said your like the ref that wants attention and randomly calls double stalling. Catan and ross are known for constantly making that call.

I've never notice Cattan making this call a whole lot, but he sure loves those someraults :-D
No I stopped reading your posts along time ago. I felt it was time to get back to topic instead of dwelling on your opinion of me.
20 years ago... prob not. still locked up in the pen. as far as i know
whats he locked up for?
I've never notice Cattan making this call a whole lot, but he sure loves those someraults :-D
he really does, was it him last year at state that broke his thumb or somthing. but anyway yea him and ross both are notorious for it, like last year year at oldam duals catan was the reff for a oldham woodford dual, it was the hvy match the both wrestlers got a stalling call, then another for wofo guy, then another double then another double in the third so that the woodford guy lost because of too many stalling calls, so catan pretty much won that match for the oldham wrestler.
