and you are?

campbell county wrestler

cant wait to see how i do

u should do ok .as long as u dont wrestle Bradford from Ryle

i'm not to worried i have pinned him 2times and i am looking for revenge

Has anyone gone out to Baumspage to look at the seeds?  WOW!  This is really turning into a monster tournament.  Check out 119: Matt Zarth, Myron Bradbury, Michael Osborne, Jeremy Hurley (Grundy, lost to Zarth 3-2 last year), Jimmy Lacy, Sean Hamons, Alex Murphy, and Justin Thompson.  That's 5 of the top 10 at 119, the #1 and another top 10 from 112, and a state runner-up (at 112) from Grundy that almost beat Zarth last year.

It looks like most of the teams still have a number of guys out of the lineup, but it should be a battle between Trinity, Ryle, Union Co., Campbell Co., John Hardin, Larue Co., Grundy, and South Dearborn.

Try to get ahold of someone that is going and get them to record some of those top Kentucky boy's matches. I'm sure everyone on this board would appreciate a video of a Zarth/Bradburry match or anything like that.

Just based on the holes I see for the KY teams, I think Grundy will win it.  Then I see a mad scramble between Trinity, Ryle, and Campbell for the next 3 spots.  Then Union, John Hardin, and Larue after that.

how is the crit # calculated on the baums page?

how is the crit # calculated on the baums page?

They use a dart board like I do.   Just kidding.  I have no idea.  I would guess that there is a formula built into the site with point system giving values for state placement, region placement, record, etc.  It appears as though the weighting is in that order.

It should be me Ilg and Houchens in the final at 215 marro :-)

should we just go ahead and give you your medal...  i like confidence, but not that much

Where's Dusty Brown?

Weak weight class.

Where's Dusty Brown?

I think there is a big cornhole tournament out in Vegas this weekend.  I hear he had to agree to throw left handed before they would allow him to enter.

He transferred to Graham.

i'm not to worried i have pinned him 2times and i am looking for revenge

I would say "revenge is always the weak pleasure of the narrow and little mind."

But for the life of me I can't figure out how to get revenge on someone you pinned twice.

The last time they wrestled Bradford won like 6-1 or 6-0.  Bradford is looking very good as all of Ryle's team.  This was a very well ran tournament.  Ryle & Trinity look very impressive at this point in the season!  It should be a great state tournament.

Check out 119 - tough weight!  Grundy VA looked tough as usual, especially in the light/middle weights.  Is Union really that down?

Tough field gives Ryle early test on road to state

Ryle Raider Rumble

By Kevin Goheen

Enquirer contributor

The final round of his team's own wrestling tournament reminded Tim Ruschell of the final day of February's state tournament. It's not a memory the Ryle head coach wanted to relive, but it is one he will be able to use.

The Raiders were in second place of the Ryle Raider Rumble on Saturday, trailing only eventual champion Grundy (Va.), as the final place matches were to begin. Instead of holding on to that lead, however, Ryle was overcome by Louisville Trinity, the state's top-ranked team, and had to settle for third place in the 16-team tournament.

Grundy won the tournament for the second straight year after finishing third in 2006 in its first trip to Ryle. The Golden Wave had six champions as part of their total of 338.5 points. Trinity finished with 279.5 points, and Ryle had 275. Campbell County was fourth with 222.5 points.

Trinity had three champions, while Ryle's Jake Bradford was the only Northern Kentucky wrestler to win a title, at 189 pounds.

Of the 11 Ryle wrestlers who took part in a final match, only three won and earned points for the Raiders. Trinity, by contrast, had seven wrestlers win final matches, providing enough points for the Shamrocks to overtake Ryle.

"We got to see what we have to work on," said Ruschell. "It's all a learning experience. I try to tell these kids that it's all practice, that the medals here don't mean a thing compared to when you're at the state tournament. We're going to be all right. They're all going to learn."

Six of the teams ranked in the state's top seven, according to Kentuckywrestling.com, competed in the tournament. Trinity was ranked No. 1, with Union County No. 2, Ryle third and Campbell County No. 4.

Ryle finished as the runner-up to Union County at last season's state tournament. That performance has the Raiders believing they can win the title this season.

The depth of quality in Saturday's tournament showed itself in the 125-pound division. Ryle junior Austin Palmer, who finished second in the state last season at 103 pounds and came into this tournament ranked No. 3 in the state with an 8-0 record, lost to Tyler Clark of South Dearborn 7-6 in the round-robin portion of the tournament, relegating him to the consolation rounds. Clark went on to reach the finals before losing to Derek Anderson of Grundy.

Ryle Junior Michael Osborne, ranked No. 2 in the state, beat No. 1-ranked and two-time defending state champion Matt Zarth of Lexington Henry Clay in the 119-pound semifinals. Osborne got a two-point takedown with 27.5 seconds left in the first one-minute overtime period to defeat Zarth, 10-8. Osborne finished fourth in the state at 112 pounds last season.

"I've been wrestling for six years, and I've never had a win like that," said Osborne. "It's my biggest win by far, but I can't dwell on that. It just as easily could have gone the other way. I'm going to see him again."

Osborne hurt his right ankle during the semifinal match, an injury that affected him in the championship match, a 9-1 loss to Jeremy Hurley of Grundy.

Hurley lost to Zarth in the 119-pound finals of last year's Ryle tournament and finished second at last season's Virginia state tournament in the 112-pound division. Hurley was one of six returning wrestlers for Grundy who finished in the top seven at the Virginia state meet.

josh johnson did not get pinned he lost 2-1 in a very close match.

you sure, i wasnt there but that doesnt seem like something they would mess up, either waay that grundy kid must be raw and what a stacked 119 they had

Yea, Johnson lost a decision definitely not a pin.  Is that correct that Caleb Ervin won his weight class?  I thought I seen the Grundy kid get his hand raised and that surprised me because it looked like Caleb was kicking the kid's butt the whole match.  Can anyone confirm if Ervin won?

He transferred to Graham.

maybe cooper

Check out 119 - tough weight!  Grundy VA looked tough as usual, especially in the light/middle weights.  Is Union really that down?

http://www.baumspage.com/wr/ryle/res08.htm

Union just got their football players on the mat recently (playoffs).  Plus they have a couple injuries.  The likely won't be as tough as the last 2 years, but don't count them out just yet.  They still have more than enough talent (and Ervins) to make a run at 3 in a row.

My random thoughts from the Rumble:

103 - Fahy is the real deal

112 - not much to speak of

119 - great tournament, huge win for Osborne, but Zarth steps it up in Frankfort every year

125 - Palmer had a tough day against some good out-of-state competition

130 - about as expected

135 - Caleb Ervin is very tough; Jordan Murphy is very, very strong to be a 130 pounder

140 - tough day for Isaac Thomas

145 - surprise upset for Shotwell (officials didn't help); Ohlmann looks strong

152 - Justin Black big surprise

160 - Preston Adams big surprise

171 - about as expected

189 - Bradford is progressing into a tough wrestler

215 - good match between Houchens and Ilg

285 - very impressed with Frost

Teams - Grundy was the class of the field (with a couple holes 103 and 215), Trinity and Union still missing a few guys, Cooper much better than the typical new team.

looks like joe had a good win against sean gillespie (sp). there looks like there was a lot of good wrestling and a lot of good matches to watch. wish i could have been there...

Where's Dusty Brown? win.com said him & danger had a clinic in Ohio

wow... myron bradbury finished fourth! this obviously was one heck of a tournament.

wow... myron bradbury finished fourth! this obviously was one heck of a tournament.

well he also was at 119 and he lost to good kids like that grundy kid who i heard was incredibly good and also zarth while he was weighing 114 but it was stacked though

does anybody know when Bradbury plans on making the drop from 19 to 12?

Myron will be wrestling 112 at the Beast this weekend, as well as Johnson and Fahy.  Good luck boys and make Kentucky proud!

Good luck to them. Make kentucky proud...

does anybody know when Bradbury plans on making the drop from 19 to 12?

He only weighed 114 at Ryle over the weekend.

Yea Myron was just too little to wrestle them. If he was a little bigger then it may have been a different story. But myron has been practicing with bigger guys lately. He has been goin to campbellsville and practicing with Elam and some other boys on some weekends. So that could help him alot wrestling the upper weigh classes.
