Site list Campbell Co, John Hardin and Trinity as teams from KY sending kids?

Brackets arent up yet to know whos going to be there, anyone with some info regarding who will be attending?

I wish so bad that Harrison Courtney could go to this...

:-(

It says that seeding meeting is today, December 18th. So i assume brackets should be available tomorrow?

The site now has participants listed by school and weight.

Trinity - John Fahy - Myron Bradbury - Brad Hitchings

John Hardin - Josh Johnson

Didnt find Campbell Co listed so they may not have anyone attending.

Good luck to all!

Here is a link to a tournament preview:

Bradbury and Fahy both mentioned.

What is the history of KY guys placing?  Last year Reid.  Ruschell ever place?  Has Courtney ever gone?

Ruschell and Murton both placed

and Reid got 5th...

Yes, seeding is supposed to be posted tonight.

I am glad to see these kids challenge themeselves.  I wish some of the other top wrestlers in the state would be going as well.

do you have to get invited to beast of the east?

do you have to get invited to beast of the east?

i believe it is i am not positive but i think so

and wouldnt dusty be the one going for campbell county

whats the deal with dusty anyway? i heard he hasnt wrestled all year or something, is this true? whats going on? someone please clarify...

yea whats the deal with him? ranger keeps mentioning the world cornhole championships in las vegas lol.

You have to apply for the Beast, application deadline is I think April.  They review credentials and make decision on whether or not your accepted.  I think Korey and Dusty were accepted but have decided to stay with the team that weekend.

Dusty I believe is banged up a little and is healing.  Torn hang nail, could be season ending.

All 4 KY guys are seeded:

thats great. cant wait to see how kentucky is doing in 3-4 years. look for Fahy to dominate this tournament in a few years.

Shotwell and Brown were accepted, but this weekend is NKAC.  This is the tournament for region 6 which decides the two teams for state duals.

I think that i would have chosen the Beast of the East over NKAC, but then again the team comes first...

You're right - the team does come first.  Shotwell still has next year.  Plus, they have some tough Ohio tournaments coming up - not the Beast, but still tough.

I fault the NKAC tournament committee. They really shouldn't have scheduled such an important tournament the same day as a tournament that, if they do well, could change their lives. they could be getting so much exposure and maybe lead to scholarship offers. Just something i hope they think about next year...

Good Luck! It is great tournament with plenty of exposure.  I was highly impressed with Fahy. The NKAC has been on the same weekend since the early 1800's, long before the Beast.  Ryle actually lost both NKAC in the years that Ruschell, Peace and Reid went to the Beast. I think it paid off.  Hopefully, it will do the same for the others.

Only 4 KY guys have wrestled in this, 3 have placed.

man ya cant laugh those torn hang nails can be a serious issue

I think it was actually a stubbed toe.  But I hear he may try to tough it out at the NKAC this weekend.  He is having a special wrestling "boot" designed by Alexander Karelin from Russia flown in tomorrow night.  It may slow Dusty down a bit, it weighs like 20 pounds and is solid lead, but he wasn't all that fast to begin with.

lol i am having fun reading all these comments about him, but i really would love to know whats going on with him. please....

Campbell County beat Ryle last year by 25 in the conference. Even if Peace and Reid pinned both opponents, they still would have lost by 1. Campbell County has 3 very difficult Ohio tournaments in January. Brown has been injured and Shotwell was needed by his team for the conference. Coach Bankemper made the call and it was the right decision. Shotwell will be going to Nationals.

Only 4 KY guys have wrestled in this, 3 have placed.

And look what it has done for them. This tournament can work wonders, im tellin ya. Who was the fourth, that didn't place? And if im not mistaken, i believe Andre Zeppa told me that he went one year, it was either the beast, or Tournament of Champions.

I think Peace is the one that did not place.

I think Peace is the one that did not place.

it surprises me if it was him, peace was a great wrestler. what year did he wrestle in it?

Peace graduated in 2008.  He goes to Prinston University and is NOT wrestling.

does princeton even have a good wrestling program? im sure he could have continued his career if he wanted.

yea peace didnt place at it last here.

Im not exactly sure how their program is? I know that prior to last years state, they were seriously involved with Derek Nickel. Then we all know the story with that.

I think peace just wasnt into it any more and they wanted him to drop to 133 and he didnt want to do that.

does princeton even have a good wrestling program? im sure he could have continued his career if he wanted.

They are ok.  Had a national finalist in 2002 with Greg Parker, was beat by the amazing Greg Jones from WVU (a 3x champ), the fastest upper weight I have ever seen.  I would say one reason Peace isn't wrestling is academics are more important than wrestling, which I agree with completely.  If Peace becomes a doctor or whatever he's going into but doesn't wrestle I would say his decision was more than a success.

Most of the Ivy League schools aren't that good because of the academic demand.  Cornell is the exception to the rule though.  They have a real outside shot at winning the NCAA nationals this year with I think four wrestlers ranked in the top 3 (Nickerson, Leen, Lewnes, Anceravage).  There is also another Ivy League wrestler with a great shot at winning nationals individually in Corey Jantzon from Harvard at 141 (I believe he is ranked first right now but that weight is wide open this year).  His older brother Jesse Jantzen won in 2003 at 149.

I think peace just wasnt into it any more and they wanted him to drop to 133 and he didnt want to do that.

Yeah wrestling is a sport that is really easy to get burnt out on. It takes a real mental capacity to be able to not eat whatever you want for, most of these good wrestlers, much of your whole life.

i think id kill myself if i had to wrestle in college....

i think id kill myself if i had to wrestle in college....

whoa whoa whoa... calm down buster. lol. goood thing you didnt ssay that at school or there would be some big trouble. lol trust me i've been there done that. but yea wrestling in college is really stressful and tiring i would imagine. ive never wrestled in college so i wouldn't know but its just an assumption.

I thought Peace was wrestling for them? But a 2x ky state champion just doesn't have the credentials i guess...

Nah, it wasn't his credentials.  He got in there and could have wrestled.  Like others have said, he probably just wanted to focus on school.  Good for him.  He had the talent and could have wrestled in college, but I imagine homework & studying at Princeton is INSANE.

yeah, my physics teacher graduated from Cornell and he brought in like a 3 1/2" binder full of homework from just his first semester freshman year! it was insane.

So far today.

this john fahey kid must be the real deal. i must say, i had my doubts, but hes proving them wrong.

i predict him going undefeated through high school. but i really hope that he doesn't fall into the Travis Sullivan trap and stay at 103 for 65984456513264 years... i want to see him lift weights, get stronger, and compete at 125 in a couple years. then see how he can do at the collegiate level.

wow, i had no idea beast of the east was so big. 64 MAN BRACKETS!!! thats rediculous for me to even think about how great it would feel to win a competition like that. especially with the competition being so tough. how did the idea of this tournament get started? and when? does anyone know for sure?

Updates from the Beast:

Round 1

Fahy - Pin

Bradbury - bye

Johnson - W 5-4

Hitchings - bye

Round 2

Fahy - W 7-0

Bradbury - W 5-4

Johnson - L 3-0

Hitchings - Pin

Round of 16 up next.

disappointing first loss for Josh Johnson, but you cant win em all i guess.

[glow=red,2,300]PLEASE KEEP THE UPDATES COMING![/glow]

do they place just the top 8? or does it go farther back?

do they place just the top 8? or does it go farther back?

im fairly sure its top 12...

now you know why we've been making such a big deal over it and all these kids being seeded so high. and how i wish Harrison Courtney could attend this tournament. :(

the brackets say that they only place through top 8...

So far today.

John Fahy  2-0

Myron Bradbury  2-0

Brad Hitchings    1st rd. bye

Josh Johnson 1-0

it says on the brackets that Bradbury had a first round bye, then won 5-4

yeah i knew it was a huge tournament, i just didnt know it was this huge. placing in that tournament has got to get anyone recognition.

tough match coming up for Josh Johnson.

but then again im sure every match here is tough for everyone. this tournament is so insane. even the #1 seeded returning champions arent dominating everyone like many of us would expect. returning second placer #1 seed at 130 Chris Villalonga only won his second match 9-0...

i bet its absolutely crazy being at this tournament

it says on the brackets that Bradbury had a first round bye, then won 5-4

Yes he had a bye 1st rd

i thought they were done for the day? let us now how they do.

Bradbury W 4-2

Johnson L 10-2 Out

disappointing that the wrestler we had seeded highest was the first to be eliminated, but still 2-2 at the beast of the east is nothing to be ashamed of, Johnson will have another shot at it.

good job to all of these kids.

I get the feeling he has confidence enough in his abilities to move on up the ladder and not shrink himself down year after year.

so do I. at least i really really hope so.

also, does anybody know why woodford didn't have any kids attending the beast? just imagine if Harrison Courtney went up there and dominated this tournament. Think of how that would draw attention to Ky, or at least to Harrison

beast of the east has a lot of good competition. i dont see harrison dominating his way through the tournament. hes good, but to say hes far above the rest of the east coast is a huge statement.

god those are painful

hey, let a kid dream every once in a while! i was just sitting here imagining him pinning his way through the 64 man bracket! how awesome would that be!?!

i will admit that would be amazing to witness.

i doubt that anyone has ever done this to be honest. just daydreaming. if he did this on top of being a 4x state champion, he could get a scholarship to any school he wanted.

im pretty positive the scholorships hes already getting will suffice for him just fine as long as he keeps his head on straight. he should go far in life with the lessons he has learned wrestling, and the future its setting up for him already.

Absolutely, but the sport itself is bigger than he is. By this, I mean I wish that he would have went up there, wrestled his tail off as he always does, and gotten Ky some recognition. I mean some good recognition, the type that makes recruiters not be afraid to take chances on these multiple time champions in Ky just because they wrestle in Ky. Hes proved that he can wrestle at the National level, placing third at sophomore nationals (he should have won but he got screwed on a last second peterson to the eventual champion).

Didn't Courtney just compete at Super 32 and only go 2-2?  That tournament has got to be on par wth Beast of the East.

i dont know i would say it is a really hard tournament but the beast is just about the hardest.

im not too sure how he did at super 32. anyone know for sure?

i dont know i would say it is a really hard tournament but the beast is just about the hardest.

I'm not sure either.  Where is grapplehed, he can give a pretty good idea how these tournaments stack up.

is Flowrestling.com gonna put up videos of the semifinals?

Super 32 and Beast are very comprable.  Super 32 is bigger and deeper.  It draws from a greater portion of the country.  Some states are not eligible at the Beast because of in season travel rules.  At Super 32 you will get more kids from MI, IN, OH, CA, etc.  The competition especially at the top of each bracket is about the same.  You could say the same for the Ironman as well.  Ther were some brackets at the beast that were probably tougher than Super 32 and some at Super 32 that were more loaded.  I would say it's a toss up.

Brackets form Super 32 are still posted at super32.com

yeah i just took a look at them. didnt fahy get 4th at super32?

As I read this, I can only hope that some people never read this. Any kid that wrestlers , doesn't need any more BS / Pressure than he gets on the mat. If someone wants to make a name for KY wrestlers then let them do it! To talk about how someone else should do it, is just not right! Let the kids leave it on the mat, where ever that may be. It would be nice if KY kids placed in all of the TOP Tournaments in the nation,  but not going to happen any time soon. If your a KY wrestler and think Ky should have a better name for itself, then make it happen!

but lets just say that i suck at wrestling, and i go to every tournament and get dominated. that would only bring negative attention to ky.

This was a pretty good match.  If Hitchings could had finished those deep shots he was getting at the beginning, I think he would of won that match.

1st period - Hitchings got screwed on the potentially dangerous call. Debatable as to whether or not he should have got the escape for loss of control on the out of bounds.

2nd period - Definitely was not out of bounds when he was about to turn to get his two after the escape was awarded. Isn't it illegal to scissor the body?

3rd period - Good job on the escape and take down, good escape by the other kid, not sure if the kid was deserving of two though. It was either an escape or a reversal, obviously not an escape then a take down.

its not illegal to scissor the body, its illegal to figure four the body. its also illegal to scissor the head, but you can figure four the head. last year they tried to make scissoring the body illegal, but i don't think it ever passed.

Hey 385 do I see an itty bitty bit of bias here?

According to these quots you would think the official was out to get Hitchings.

Lets give these officials credit they were asked to ref. this tournament for a reason.  My guess would be because they are some of the best around.  Your comment on the illegal scissors does not give creidit to the rest of your comments.  If you don't know that a scissors is legal aroud the body how can we be certain that you have any insight on the rest of the calls.

not saying 385 is right or wrong, and i haven't watched the match yet myself to even have an opinion.  BUT i have heard 2 other people say there were some questionable calls in Brad's semi-final match that could have went either way.  1 person was a certified ref.

either way, these guys all did great.  good job guys!

Well of course im going to be biased!  But there were calls that could have gone either way, and it just seemed to me like everyone of these calls went the other kids way. Thats all.

But as to the comment about scissoring the body, I've gotten called on it a couple times, but it just must be something that I was doing wrong. Apologies...

Isn't figure 4 on the head and scissoring the body both illegal in the neutral position?

Scissoring the body from a neutral position can be called potentially dangerous.  This usually occurs when a wrestler has the legs in and the bottom wrestler stands up.  The match is usually stopped if the legs or in or there is a body scissors.

Yes the figure 4 of the head in the neutral position is illegal. Unless they changed therse rules again.

Not illegal if the arm is also trapped which is what I believe was the case in this match.

i watched the 125 finals match, and the takedown in overtime call was comepletely rediculous. i even rewound it, just to watch how bad the call was again. i dont know if anyone else has watched that match or not, but id do it just for fun if i were you...
