I know this has been asked before with no reply, so again, what teams {how many} will be competing at WCI? What time will it begin both days? And will the wrestlers get an extra pound the second day? Anyone????

From what I heard it was going to be a 32 team setup, hence a 32 man bracket. Unfortunately some teams have dropped out so I think it's around 26-28 teams. Some where in that ballpark.

What happened to Semones at 215? Did he wrestle?
'Atta boy Cody!! What were the consolation finals?
Courtney did not look that impressive tonight for some reason. He looked small for 160. Johnson and Zarth both looked very good.
What happened to Semones at 215? Did he wrestle?
He finished 4-2 and took 5th. Lost to a wrestler from Indiana in the quarters in a tight match. Then lost to the kid from Henry Clay (who he beat a week ago) in the final round of consolations after taking a half-a$$ shot that cost him. Not a fun night tonight but no excuses. You take your hat off to the winner and you live to wrestle another day. A learning experience that hopefully will pay dividends in the future

i agree he looked sloppy on bottem, i think thats the first time i have EVER seen anyone ride him like that.
who saw that kid from ohio in the 152 finals. wow his coach told him before the match to do what he wants, have fun, and show these kentucky boys a whole new world

hey kasey! thats what she said!
Call it what you want but, as usual, Courtney went about his business in a workmanlike manner and brought home a 10-2 victory against the #2 ranked wrestler in the state for that weight class. As for him looking small, I believe he could probably drop down a weight class if he needed to do so.
As has been said many times in these forums, the great thing about Harrison is the fact that he is Harrison, what you see is what you get. There is no pretense or arrogance about him in any way shape or form. He's just a kid who deserves all he can get because he works hard. Everytime I see him wrestle I am reminded that it's technique, not physique, that wins wrestling matches.

I was not trying to put down Courtney in anyway. He is a awesome wrestler. I just dont think that he performed as well as he could have. I think he knew this as well because even after the win he acted frustrated with himself.

That kid was really tough, he is a fargo placer and is an all american. It would have been great if Courtney could have wrestled him, I think it would have been a much more interesting match, but I enjoyed the takedown clynic.
What's really wild is at last years DIV II state tournament in OH as a sophomore he was 2 losses and out.
I was reading a previous post and it said that Travis K(woodford) vs Goodwine(JH), but the finals results say something differently, what happened with that
Travis lost to Hutchinson in the Semi Finals by dec but I don't know the actual score.
It sounds like the tournament went well and there was some very good wrestlers there, what weight classes had some of the best competition and/or surprising results. It looks like there should have been some interesting matchups from 119 through 152
Travis lost to Hutchinson in the Semi Finals by dec but I don't know the actual score.
5-7
oh and yes Zarth Johnson and Brocco all looked very impressive they all wrestled top ranked guys and dominated the matches. kirby goodwine looked pretty good and so did JH 112 and Jordan murphy looked pretty tough. on the other side i still think we will see courtney pin walls because he still easily won a majdec even tho he wrestled at the bottom of his game. and the SO 189 looked very sloppy not sure if he was just off or what but he had a sloppy performance in the finals.
Who did Murphy (130) wrestle??
someone from sen.
here is a website with a video of all the final matches
Who did Murphy (130) wrestle??
Henderson from Seneca
Who is Henderson, at Seneca? Never heard of him before where did he come from?
Where can I find final brackets for each weight class? Or, does anyone have the 1st - 5th in each class?
Thanks!

I think it is an issue with the site as I haven't been able to attach the rankings either.
It was really odd to see the number of teams so low at the WCI. Any discussion about the reason for that? It has historically been one of the biggest tournaments (if not the biggest) in the state. Without extras, it wasn't even a full 16 man bracket. I can remember have pigtail matches for a 32 man bracket when I was wrestling.

i know that tates creek didnt go because of how late the tournament always goes, and how poorly run it normally is. so we went to wayne county instead to get plenty of rest for the tci.
maybe alot of people didnt go because it was a monday tuesday meet
maybe alot of people didnt go because it was a monday tuesday meet
well this year unless they wanted to change the weekend of it, they almost had to make it a monday tuesday meet, because regional duals was a monday tuesday meet. so to wrestle two days on monday and tuesday, take at least one day off in between for christmas, most likely two days cause of christmas eve, and then turn around and wrestle saturday and sunday with only one or two days of practice, would have been way too much to ask of the region 7 wrestlers that wrestled at wci. i know you werent saying it shouldnt have been a monday or tuesday, i was just explaining to some people why i think it was.
And didn't they already announce it at end of tournament that for next year it's on Tues (29th) & Wed (30th)?
I know it was planned as a 32 team tourny but had some teams drop out to late to be replaced. I think they ended with 24 teams. I agree that it can drag on way to long, but this year was pretty good, aside from starting 1.5hours late on the first day. We got out around 9 on the first night and about the same time on the second.

Seems like a good decision would have been to go where a team can have competition and not have a soft excuse on why NOT to attend.
The WCI has always been a solid competitive tournament and one alot of schools are glad to participate in. Not everything can run as smoothly as one would like and to have it all put together at a Holiday Break! For a "Lexington Team" to be disturbed by starting and stopping times is a little absurd seeing as there were teams from all over the State and even some out of State?
What is the drive form the Tates Creek side of Lexington to Woodford County??
20 minutes? Given you get stopped a few times on Man-O-War?
Congrats to the Woodford County Team and Parents for having such a wonderful Tournament! Great time, well run, and good Coaches room too!! I will come back!
I thought that The WCI was ran alrite this year. It ran a little late, but it was a lot better then years in the past that I remember. I have been to better and worse. I will say that the hospitality room was a little lackluster this year.
I usually try to stay away from this site because of all the criticism, but i created an account just to respond to this person's analysis of the WCI hospitality room. Did you forget that this is gratuitous, or did your mother never teach you any manners or how to say thank you? You want to talk about preparation!! we fed approximately 100 MEN 3 meals a day for two days-do the math-we had to have enough food for 600 meals!! the amount of time it took to coordinate the food, get it ready and hot was quite a task. This was not a money making endeavor-all the food was donated by wc parents and believe me it cost a pretty penny. I personally spent over $100.00 on the food I prepared, and others were just as generous. What time did you get home?!! because I was there until almost midnight cleaning up.
I am not trying to elevate the parents of WCI, I am speaking out on behalf of all the parents who work so hard to see that the coaches and refs are taken care of. We appreciate the hard work you guys do, and would really like some of the same! Do you realize what it would have cost you if all the coaches from your team had to eat out all those meals? I really find it an insult that someone would call something free "lackluster" which to me means lacking and mediocre. Please, next time you are at wc for a tournament, find me and i will be glad to give you a $10.00 food voucher to concessions and we won't have to listen to your criticism anymore. I'm not afraid to post my name-how about you?
Thanks again to all the coaches , refs and table workers for the great job you did running a two day tournament-I really do appreciate it.

I wasn't at the tournament this year, but can speak from past experience. I have been to the WCI as a coach a few times and in my experience it is one of the best hospitality rooms anywhere.
I find it quite funny that you started a account just to tell me this. All of the bad things that was said about the tourny, and this is what bothers you the most lol. I was in no way saying that I did not appreciate everything that was done for the coaches and refs. I know you all work hard and I thank you for this. It is a hard task for so many people. I never said it was bad and I said thank you the times I went in there. I am still entitled to my opinion though, and I say it was lackluster. Everyone has there opinions, you know this, you are from Woodford. I mostly say this because in the years before it seemed much better, especially being in the cafeteria. If my comment about a hospitality room is what offends you most on this forum, then I commend you.

We're going down to Woodford this weekend for duals, and I for one am looking forward to their hospitality room. It's been awesome in the past!

:-D You never know!
I have been on both sides of the coin at hospitality rooms as a coach and a volunteer. The parents who works those rooms spend time and money providing a service for the coaches and referees. The parents are often overlooked as this service has become expected and when we are not waited on hand and foot and fed 2 or 3 meals in one day by people we don't even know then the whining begins. Everyone wants to put on a good wrestling tournament including the parents. To those who feel they have been slited for a lack of appreciation in the kitchen I would like to thank you for your efforts. For those who think it is their right and not a privledge to be slopped by those folks shame on you. You should bring your own bologna next time.
I think old140 just wants someone to listen to him whine.
Just ignore criticisms on a message board, especially when it comes to food. Its not worth the time or the energy to even respond.

Yeah thats what it is. Check the board, see how much I whine. Look at my original post. I was one of the few that said I actually thought the tourny was ran well this year. Read before you write. I actually find it quite hilarious that someone was reading through all the bad posts about Woodford and its tournament, then they come upon my comment and freak out.
Now you're whining about my post. Just drop it, or laugh it off since you think its "quite hilarious."

I can't believe some bus driver is on here complaining about a hospitality room. :-D
Bus drivers got to eat to. I think the bus drivers actually get paid for what they do though.
We have to give our bus driver money to eat. A new school board rule.
We have to give our bus driver money to eat. A new school board rule.
We go through the bags of the wrestlers having a had time making weight, take their food and put it in a brown bag. Give the brown bag to the bus driver. :-D
I've always thought Woodford had a nice hospitality room. I would personally like to thank all the parents who work those rooms. I know it's a thankless job. Anyone who knows me knows that I like to eat, not to mention there's something about free food that I absolutely love, lol. Even if it's just a doughnut or bag of chips, it's still free and money I don't have to spend out of my pocket. I've personally never gone hungry at a meet no matter how nice or "lackluster" the hospitality room was. You have many parents who work nonstop in those rooms for 1 or 2 days and the only thing they ask in return isn't even a simple thank you. They just want to be able to break away for 5 to 10 minutes, 2-5 times a tournament to see their child wrestle. So again, thank you to all the parents who sacrifice just as much as the wrestlers and coaches do. Now with that being said, North Oldham always has a very nice hospitality room at their Mustang Classic. Hey NOHS Wrestling, even though I'm not coaching this year, if I come to the Mustang, can I sneak in the h-room for some of that food? Man those ladies can cook.
I would also like to add that I don't think old140 meant to offend anyone and I don't think he was complaining, even though it might not seem like it. Wow, this thread has gone from who's going to the WCI, to the wrestling on the mat, to the hospitality room at Woodford to North Oldham's hospitality room. If we keep going, we might be able to start naming some of our favorite dishes that are served at tournaments and turn that into what restaurants we like the most. You have to love some of the threads on this site!
We had Beef O'brady's give wings! But that was at a youth tournament lol.

Much appreciated. Tell the nice lady's no getting off easy this year. And they thought they would have to have 1/2 as much food since I wasn't coaching this year lol. If Coach Cole brings Iroquois back to the Mustang this year, watch out. Kroger will be safe from the weakening economy.
