Kentuckywrestling.com HS Rankings 2008/2009 - JAN 1

Topic ID: 4574 | 120 Posts

Well, I didn't get to review all of the results and notes that were given to me this week in as much detail as usual, but I'm sure someone will point out anything I missed.

Dual rankings keep moving around; I think it should be a pretty tight tournament.  Woodford is starting to sneak back into the hunt.  It sounds like there are still a lot of unknowns with injuries and weight.

Big thanks to all of those who are keeping me informed.  I'm getting good information from coaches and fans all across the state.

Still having issues with the file upload (help Mathound!!!).

Holtsclaw looked awesome at the WCI.

he was very aggressive and took great shots at the end of the finals match.

Eas 285 tyler Beckett broke his foot wrestling Ben Rupp in practice before the WCI and i think hes out for the season

great job on the rankings ranger

Holtsclaw looked awesome at the WCI.

yeah he looked really good. harrison looked sloppy to say the least, but still got the win. i heard travis had a great showing at the wci as well.

sum kids from prp at wci said northington is wrestling 171. true or not?

I don't know if I would call Harrison's performance sloppy.  He didn't wrestle to everyone's, including his, expectations but give credit to Walls, he's a strong kid.  I look for Harrison to turn up his training and have a more decisive win the next time around.

If any other # 1 beats #2 by a score of 10-2, would everyone have the same feelings?

This is to point out everyone's expectations of Courtney.  Everyone expects domination every time out no matter the opponent.

Stengel was at 160, so he was wrestling up.  I'm hearing both will be dropping soon.

      112

11  Un Co  Keaton Thomas

Thomas will end up much higher.  I see him as high as 3-4.

Where did John Hardin place at WCI?

i wasnt saying he looked sloppy cause he won 10 to 2 and not by much higher. i was saying he looked sloppy because the only thing he did on bottem was work to a base and then ball up. at the end of the match he hit a peterson roll, but other than that he was getting ridden out the entire match.

not tryin to hassle u but erik jaggers is not 152 he is staying at 160 and robert robey is 152

btw ranger i have heard from joe himself that he is going to try and bump up to 130, and henry clays 130 now is going to wrestle 125. he says he is sick from cutting weight, so he thinks he'll be much stronger at 130. he said he will be there at the tci, so i guess we will see if he decided for sure this weekend.

not tryin to hassle u but erik jaggers is not 152 he is staying at 160 and robert robey is 152

I thought he would drop at some point.  Guess not.

no he dont wanna cut wieght and he doesnt know if he can beat robert in wrestle offs

Where did John Hardin place at WCI?

3rd

So woodford placed first in wci

But as a team still behind john hardin?

Really it makes perfect sense.

1.  Woodford always ensures the brackets favor them (ever wonder why it takes them so long to start the tournement every single year and it is always technical difficulties?)

2.  The state tournement is a completely different creature than WCI.

and some what true but they do got good wrestlers that could place  for them so it may not be all a set up [glow=red,2,300]but then it's woodford[/glow]

I'll say it to give Ranger a break.  The rankings are based on the state tournament only.  Each rank from 1-24 has a point value associated with it based on how many points that person will score on average.  Ranger does not pick the teams he just ranks the kids and then adds up the points.

For example at the WCI if the top two kids are #1 from team A and #8 from Team B  and they finish 1-2 the #1 kid will only score about 4-10 more points.  At state assuming they finish 1st and 8th the difference will be about 12-20.

You also have to take into account that there still people dropping weight and people out nursing injuries.

and some what true but they do got good wrestlers that could place  for them so it may not be all a set up [glow=red,2,300]but then it's woodford[/glow]

Oh, please don't get me wrong.  Woodford is a beast always.  They have an excellent coaching staff during and off season.  And, those that wrestle for them live wrestling- at least during season.  It is a great program.  No debating that.

Josh Bell from Western Hills who was in the finals at the WCI (@189) is dropping to 171.

Josh Bell from Western Hills who was in the finals at the WCI (@189) is dropping to 171.

right now he actually has the number 2 seed at the tci, behind nick leddy at 171.

it looks like 130 will be tough at TCI...

Good question.  Basically, I haven't seen anything else out of Caldren and Malito has a couple of good wins.  A good showing at the TCI for Caldren and he will shoot up the list.

thanks ranger and i will be wrestling at tci also this will be my 1st meet this year.

What! Wci is not fixed for woodford it takes just as long to start any other tournament. The bracketing is done with all coaches present, why would the other coaches let woodford fix the wci? Doesn't make much sence.

Kasey Hedges dec. Schneider 7-6.

Abney dec. Yenter 14-11.

Shotwell pin Bennett. Shotwell was unstoppable tonight. He has the look of a state champ.

Mims from Henry Clay wrestled 130 and won the TCI.

Staten dec. Harlow 6-2 HWT.

Bryant dec. Brown at 112 championship 3-2.

Ilg manhandled Hester in the 215 final.

Griggs pin Jones from Holmes in 189 final.

Bell (WH) dec. Gardner (Fr. Co.) @ 171.

Zarth pin Joe Davis (TC) 119 final.

Jeremiah Walls won 160.

Logan Murrell pin Black (CC) 152 final.

Mims from Henry Clay wrestled 130 and won the TCI.

that was Joe Whalen that wrestled 130

Kasey Hedges dec. Schneider 7-6.

it was 6-5. minor adjustment.

David Sahms I think majored Kyra Hudson today. He is an 8th Grader

Obviously not based on the results. :-D

At 112 Chase Boone from Ohio County is alot better then you are giving him credit for. He went 5-0 at the Apollo Duals

Mims from Henry Clay wrestled 130 and won the TCI.

How did that happen when I saw him get beat by the TC kid in one round?

anthony cantrell from johnson central is NOT wrestling...ryan harlow is there heavy weight and he looks good. i faced him last night and he was beating me 2-0 until about 30 seconds left and i pushed into him and held him on his back till time ran out.

i was mistaken. jordon is wrestling. all i know is that last year he got a full ride to ohio state or something like that and they told him not to wrestle. and i have not heard ne thing about him. i guess he wrestled last week though. if he got third...who got 1st and second?

285

Nick Lalonde 145 from Tates Creek has beat: Daniel Zink 19th CC (pinned), Kaleb Patrella (20th going into the season) dec. 10-3 AB, Larry Sammons 21 Mc Cen (pinned).

How did that happen when I saw him get beat by the TC kid in one round?

mims is there 112 and did lose 2 the tc kid brown but 130 joe w won the whole thing

speaking of joe whalen he was in fact wrestling 130 at tci and looked much healthier there. i beieve he'll stay there. he is a sophomore too, i noticed that you didnt have his grade ranger.

bryce payton from prp should be thrown in the mix at 103, because this is his 1st year and hes been doing great :-D

tates creek at tci looked real good almost every every weight class had someone place top 8 in it. another team that looked good for not having a full team was bryan station. they had 3 wrestlers finish in the top 4.

I'm not positive on this but I believe if you wrestle in high school they (Ohio State) football players are required to keep wrestling in high school because of the endurance and agility part of that wrestling has on the football atmosphere.

yeah i believe tates creek had 12 people place. five of them were in the finals.(brandon abney, zac brown, joe davis, kasey hedges, and danial griggs) two of them won their final matchs.(kasey hedges and daniel griggs).

what were the 12 weight classes that placed from tc?

103, 112,119,125,140,145,152,189,215,285. those are the ones that i know for sure placed top 8. 130,135,160,and 171, i am not positive on which ones of those placed.

nice job TC

Brad Milford, Pat Milford's freshman brother pinned Joe Mims from HC at 112 at TCI.

i think region 7 is one of the strongest regions out there. good teams and good individuals

yeah region 7 is normally the best region. i think it has fallen this year, but still way up there.

whos going to state in region 7 u think? top 4 of course?

Region 1 has only 3 teams that are any good Union, Christian, and Ohio. Other then that we suck

haha wat schhol r u from FCHS_Wrestling?

Kasey Hedges dec. Schneider 7-6.

It looks like anyone in top 6 at 125 has a chance for the state title

Brandon Abney beat Garth Yenter at 103 at TCI.

Brandon Abney beat Garth Yenter at 103 at TCI.

I happen to see that match, Abney also through a number of headlocks in that match. I think thats the only reason he beat Yenter.

I heard he was getting rolled through on them though.

it will be zach and will in the finals

what about lenz? lets not forget he beat will

chase boone from ohio county beat ritchie supe scott in quadruple overtime by 1

Preston shoopman beat that franklin county Kidd with a pin and lost to Jeremiah walls in the finals at tc by 6 but it was a real good match

another great match was franklin countys Josh Bruning and Bryan stations najee Calderon. they went in to 3 ot's. 1st ot no take downs. 2nd ot najee Calderon rode bruning out. 3rd ot josh bruning hooked his legs and got back points which resulted in a loss for Calderon but over all a great match.

josh bruning #5

najee Calderon #24

think about it ranger lol hint hint

chase boone from ohio county beat ritchie supe scott in quadruple overtime by 1

where did they wrestle

where did they wrestle

they wrestled at the apollo duals

who cares how he won. if he can hit the hip tosses every time on the kid, then he will win every time. thats like saying the only reason isaac knable was any good was because he had a good double leg. a double leg and a hip toss are both takedowns that can both be setup. how come when someone gets tossed, it automatically makes that win a fluke?

Even though I'm the one that said Knable wasn't that good because of this you bring up a valid point here.  He could hit it on everyone in KY and it was good enough.  I'm not familiar with Abney but if he can hit the headlock match after match then he's obviously as good as it can take him.  The problem is how far will it take him, especially since everyone is going to know it's coming?

I don't know what Abney weighed, but Yenter weighs about 92 on a good day.  He's having a great season and holding his own.  I can't wait to see him take on these guys when they are pound for pound!

All Bruning does is lock up with you.  If you have seen any of his matches for the last two years you'd know that is all he does.  He very rarley shoots and should be called for stalling.

ive seen him shoot some pretty nice ankle picks but yeah i also saw the hold them tight and stall to keep from getting scored on

i mean i see abney hit it a lot, but i wasnt stating this just because of abney. i was stating it for anyone that says a win was a fluke just because it was a toss. i know a lot of people feel a lot of my matches are flukes because i hit a lot of tosses.

chase boone from ohio county beat ritchie supe scott in quadruple overtime by 1

there is no quadruple, its just triple overtime

1st overtime-sudden death first takedown

2nd overtime-consist of 2 30 sec gos where you switch places in referees position

3rd overtime-is 30 secs all you have to do is ride someone out or get an escape and you win.

what about lenz? lets not forget he beat will

he beat will twice if I recall? 11-6 and by fall.

Tre Such wishes to call shenanigans on Daniel Urban from UHA being ranked. Tre had a decision win over him when they wrestled. Tre hasn't been wrestling because he was out with an ankle injury but he has wrestled 8 matches and went 7-1

he beat will twice if I recall? 11-6 and by fall.

no the first time it went into ot but yes the 2nd was a fall

I agree, and if you have to headlock a guy who is 10 pounds lighter than you to win thats horrible. I mean he did beat yenter, but only by 1. Abney did not impress me at all. thats all he seemed to do is headlock.

Abney beat Yenter by 3 14-11 and you have been all over the board talking about how unimpressive the TC wrestlers were who beat their Campbell Co. counterparts. Let it go, they lost fair and square.

no the first time it went into ot but yes the 2nd was a fall

It was an OT victory the first time but i rolled him through to his back in OT. Final score was 11-6

Garth is a 90 pound stud.  I love his attitude even when he's giving up 15 pounds.  I have watched him wrestle several times this year and when his opponent leaves the mat he's scratching his head win or lose.  All wrestlers should have his Grit and "Never Say Die" mentality.  Great athlete but even better kid.

Shaun Lenz of Harrison Co. pinned Robert Holtzman at either the Oldham Co. super duals or Nelson Co. duals. Not sure which. Shaun is a pretty solid wrestle but has been out here recently due to Infatigo. His record is 10-1 and only loss came from Krow from Meade co.

if its winning the match and yenter keeps giving it to him, why not headlock? to be honest, yenter should never get hip tossed because he is so short. it should almost be impossible. all you have to do is keep you hips lower than the person trying to toss you.

Pravasic was the only 215 to give Ilg a match at the TCI. Ilg killed Brown and stuck Hester. Kinder #11 at 215 is ranked to high. He is like 5-5 since losing in the TC-WC match at regional duals. Holbrook is wrestling 189 for Ashland. He was 1/2 pound over on Saturday and wrestled unattached. I read Harlow is staying at 285 and Griggs at Union quit. If so, there will be a lot change at 215. Also it is Hood not Fawns at Mon Co.

yea i must say kinder had the sloppiest match i have ever seen he literally stood straight up and walked around the whole time, his opponent was a laf kid and he did the same thing at one point in the match the laf kid turned his back and walked slowly to the center while kinder slowly followed behind doing nothing it was sad.

I know David Sahms has beaten Kyra Hudson and I think he beat Christian County too. And Wade Willen is a Freshman

I know David Sahms has beaten Kyra Hudson and I think he beat Christian County too. And Wade Willen is a Freshman

Wade Willen is in 8th grade.

Wade Willen is in 8th grade.

That's what I was thinking.  Everything I have seen suggests 8th grade.

Holtzman was not wrestling varsity for North Oldham when they went to both of those.

oh  :-o  my fault. I know that he stuck 2 different guys in the 1st from north oldham. You all got alot of back ups lol.

I am not a part of the team.  I just happened to know that information.

Wade Willen is in 8th grade.

One of our managers went to UHA last year and claims Wade is a freshman

David Sahms told me he defeated Meade as well but I was asleep for that match

joe davis from tc pined FC Devante Umikrishman in the super duals

I think it was David

haha This is true. He's probably using the 9th grade thing to impress the ladies, at a boy wade !!! He sure doesn't wrestle like a typical 8th grader though.

Actually, this is only the second time you have mentioned it.  Your first post on Oct 1, 2008 was the first time you brought this up.  FYI, he has been removed.
