Does anyone know who will be there and what the pools look like?

tates creek will be there. normally all the city teams are there like henry clay, lafayette, and dunbar.

dont forget bryan station

we had the pools and everything listed on a sheet of paper, but i forgot who all was there. i know montgomery county was. franklin from ohio that was at wci last week. two indiana teams will also be attending. tates creek, franklin, and an indiana team plus one more that i cant recall, are in one pool.

i have no idea

As of right now the only teams for sure I know will be there is Harrison Co, Oldham Co, Lafayette, Dunbar, Tates Creek, Bryan Station, Rietz Indiana, Mt Vernon Indiana, Montgomerey Co, Christian Co, South Oldham, Henry Clay, Franklin Ohio, Cooper, Wayne Co, and North Oldham. Not to sure what the Pools are like though.

I believe those are the 16 teams.  And I think Coach McCoy is still putting the pools together.  That's not an easy job to divide the teams so that regional opponents are separated as much as possible and still give the majority of top individuals a good shot at advancing to the championship round.

Beat me to it... I also know that 112 is gonna be stacked that day. me, Dee Leavell, Will Bryant, Zack Brown, Luke Troxxell, Alex Johns from Reitz( kid is pretty good, Ranked 23 in senior national rankings).

well our coach already gave us the pools, so im pretty sure coach mccoy emailed my coach the pools or something.

wow this is gona b a pretty big tourny. who do u think will compete in the finals at each wieght class an wat top will the teams be? jus curious i like knowing opinions lol

119 is some wat stacked

Oldham Co,14

Lafayette,6

Montgomerey Co,19

South Oldham,12

Henry Clay,2

Cooper,23

North Oldham10

and who knows how good the Indiana,Ohio teams are good to be

this will be a lot of fun

Leavell pinned Bryant easily so I see Brown and Bryant out of the picture. I can't wait to see this Leavell versus Lenz rematch I've been waiting for. Also I think the Troxell matchup against Leavell will be very interesting. I can't even make a prediction with this match because Leavell has never wrestled someone that was longer and lankier than him haha

If this kid from Reitz is the 103 pounder that Elam used to practice with I'd love to see him thrown into the mix also.

Mt. Vernon, IN is where Dakoda Choate is from originally.  His younger brother, Aaron, is their varsity 152 this year.

well you also have to think that maybe bryant got caught. it was in about a minute was it? id love to have seen what happened so i could draw my own conlusion as to what happened.

The pools are listed below. Franklin County is coming not Franklin Ohio.

Pool A

Lafayette

Montgomery County

North Oldham

Wayne County

Pool B

Harrison County

Henry Clay

Mount Vernon (IN)

South Oldham

Pool C

Cooper

Franklin HS

Reitz (IN)

Tates Creek

Pool D

Bryan Station

Christian County

Oldham County

Paul Dunbar

FYI...Reitz has a stud at 119 and apparently if him and Zarth meet in the finals "the match will be worth the price of admission."

I know that their 125 Blake Rueger is TOUGH.  I don't know about 119.  Maybe Rueger is at 119 now??  I would like to see a Rueger / Zarth match.

Well, after a little research I see that their 119 Alex Johns was 51-1 in Indiana last year.  That's probably the one.

Rueger is the 125.

Johns is 119.

Kuhn@103 and Moody@112 are pretty tough as well.

Also, 140 and 160.

Seth Coy has wrestled Josh Broning 3 times this year already. He has gotten closer to winning every time. It looks like thist could be his day. From what I have seen I think Coy is better on his feet than Broning, he just has to stay away from his tight tie-up.

If this kid from Reitz is the 103 pounder that Elam used to practice with I'd love to see him thrown into the mix also.

yes Alex John is the 103 from Reiz Elam practiced with. I think he won the Mater Die Tourny this year and got MOW at 119

What time are weigh-in and the scheduled start time?

Weigh-ins are at 8:30. Wrestling begins at 10:00.

It was a take down, to a cradle, to a pin, no headlock or throw, just pure domination.

then i guess it should be no contest then.

Are the semi finals going to be A vs. B and C vs. D?

Alex Johns actually wrestled 112 last year.  He placed 3rd at state in that weight class last year.  Lost a 4-3 dec. to a kid from Indy Cathedral who went on to win the weight class.  In the 3rd place match he wrestled a tough kid from Warsaw and beat him by a 6-2 or 7-2 dec.  I can't remember the exact score.  He's tough, but so is Zarth.  This would definitely be worth watching.  Reitz lost about 3 or 4 kids who competed at state last year in Indiana, but they still field a pretty tough team.

As for Mt. Vernon, I don't know much about them, but they should have a pretty tough kid wrestling HWT.  He made it to state last year, which making it to state in Indiana is an accomplishment in itself.  You have to survive 3 weekends of wrestling (sectionals, regionals, semi-state) just to get there.  I'm pretty sure he was just a junior last year so he should be back.  He has a pretty good coach as well in Andy Schneider who was a 2x state champ at HWT in Indiana in the mid 90's so I'm sure the kid is much improved.

Semis will be Pool A vs. Pool B and Pool C vs. Pool D.

So this tournament is totally duals?  No one breaks out into brackets?  Only the first team out of each pool gets to wrestle 5 matches??  Please expalin.

So this tournament is totally duals?  No one breaks out into brackets?  Only the first team out of each pool gets to wrestle 5 matches??  Please expalin.

I believe the pool matches only are set up as duals.  Best individual records advance out to 1-4 and 5-8.

tc125: then i guess it should be no contest then.

I wouldn't go that far. It was the finals of Christian County's tournament the last time Dee would be wrestling in his gym, most likely a huge contributing factor. I'm betting Bryant gives a lot better match the next time.

Does anyone know how many mats they will be using and how long do they expect this tourney to last on Saturday?

Does anyone know how many mats they will be using and how long do they expect this tourney to last on Saturday?

normally they use four mats.

Rumor has it, there may be familiar face wrestling 171 at Lafayette this weekend.  This certain individual wrestled here in KY last year and is going to school in IN now.

Choate?????

Assuming they both make it out of their pools, #4 in KY Pat Milford will wrestle #4 in IN Brian Kuhn in the semi finals.

I hope it's not a familiar hairdo.

Has anyone checked Mt. Vernon's roster on line?

135

#6 Josh Moss

#7 Jack Podgorski

#10 Brandon Whitehouse

all in one pool everyone else at that weight seems to not be as good so it looks like some lesser wrestlers will place higher, i know it cant be avoided at every weight class just kind of sucks but still nothng against coach mccoy or his pools

Semi Finals at 103- #4 in KY Pat Milford from PLD will wrestle #4 in IN Brian Kuhn from Reitz. (Assuming they'll make it out of their pools.)

I guess I'm confused with everyone wrestling three duals in their pool that would be six duals per mat. :? :? Four mats; Right ? After the conclusion of the last dual, the weight class champs from each pool will be put into four man brackets.  :-D I am confused from here, (I don't think I've been given the right info) or the lack of understanding on my part. 14 weight classes with 3 matches per bracket without wrestling for third. Multiply that by four, according to an earlier post saying individuals from 1-4. My head is spinning from the math.  :-o I don't think this could be possible with four mats. Something is not quite right. With 6 duals on all four mats you are at least figuring 7-9 hrs. Can someone explain? It appears to be a very long day of wrestling. Has this been done before? It is our first time going and I was just curious. While I'm asking all these questions about the tourney, is there coolers allowed and what type of seating should we be expecting. I know people will be asking here in Evansville about all of these things. Also is the gym fairly large to accomodate 16 teams and fans. Sorry for the questions. We are looking for a great day of wrestling some of Kentucky's finest. Thanks

The day is usually over before 8pm if I remember right. This tournament has been ran like this for at least 8 yrs now, I wrestled in it when I was in school. Its a different type of tournament that you usually go to. Coach McCoy and his staff always do a great job of running it

Thanks for the info. It sounds like a very interesting and great day of wrestling. We have wrestled Union County and Trinity already this year and for the past few years. Just a few years ago we went to the King of the Bluegrass for two consecutive years.  I really don't know much about the teams at 5-Star. Are these KY schools from any area in particular or are they all spread out. It sounds like some pretty good talent spread out between these teams.

Most of the teams will be from the Lexington area.

We run the duals non stop. In one pool gets way ahead we try to move the others to keep it going. In the 8 years I have done this, we have finished with the pools around 3:30 or 4:00 and began semis at around 5:00. The latest we have been is 8:00 in the 8 years I have done it. My goal with the tournament is to provide a competitive tournament where everyone gets to wrestle at least three matches and have everyone out early.

and that should be every tournaments goal. i applaud you for being able to make it happen.

Sorry I was wrong about 8pm, I walked off the mat at 8:05pm LOL, what a great day of wrestling!

josh moss looked good at 135, took 1st.  Lenz went 119 and one match at 125 I think.

I didn't see Mims or Podgorski from Henry Clay or Sutter from Bryan Station.  Griggs did not wrestle in the medal rounds.  Reitz won 13 matches against Tates Creek, only Gray won for TC.

Moss definately came wit his game face on today. That is the absolute best i've ever seen him wrestle. Great job Moss. As for me I weighed in at 119 but bumped to wrestle 125.

Nice job at 125 sheeves, but don't you have a ping pong match to get to!!

If you weighed in a 119, why did you bump up to wrestle 125?  Easier bracket (no Zarth, Indiana kid)?  You still planning on going 112?

Assuming they both make it out of their pools, #4 in KY Pat Milford will wrestle #4 in IN Brian Kuhn in the semi finals.

How did this match go?

I had to work yesterday. Didn't make it out. Any results?

Zarth lost 15-5  the finals to the reitz kid.

Lenz wrestled 125 because we were trying to beat Henry Clay in the dual match.  After we bumped him up against Henry Clay the only way we could get him out of the pool was to wrestle him at 125.

WOW. TC got dominated. All their wrestlers healthy? Is Reitz that good?

So they're top 10 in a better state. TC is supposed to be a top 10 team in KY and that means not getting beat in 13 of 14 weight classes.  They had to have some kids out sick.  Did Hedges, Griggs and Brown all get beat?

Yeah, reitz is a good team. A couple of their wrestler's are nationally ranked in the top 25.

So was there either of the two Choates wrestling for Mt. Vernon?

Yeah Dokato Choate's little brother is wrestling 152, im pretty sure.

From what I hear Dakota will be in the lineup soon.

Zarth lost 15-5  the finals to the reitz kid.

that was a good match

I believe Hedges was TF'd hit some nice HiC's, but didn't turn the corner and cut across, guy neckwrenched him to his back at least twice of what I saw.  Griggs match was back and forth for a while, ran out of gas and maybe an injury but I think was pinned.

Tates Creek got whipped, no excuses. However according to some on the team, they have been dealing with some injuries and sicknesses that severely limited what a few of their best wrestlers could do yesterday. The oppourtunity to wrestle against the kids from Reitz was something that could not be passed up even though resting would have better served about four guys yesterday.

Thank you to the host team on a great but long day of wrestling. There were some great individual matches yesterday. One being the 119 match with Johns and Zarth. In earlier post someone said it would be worth the price of admission. To bad they weren't charging that late in the day :-D As a parent, I would like to say I appreciate the class and manner that each young man displayed after the match. It always nice to see there are still good young men being taught to act like champions regardless of winning or losing. I appreciate seeing wrestlers respect one another even after the match. Matt came over to myself and Alex and congratulated Alex again after the awards. Hopefully I have raised my son to act the same as Mr. Zarth. I gave him my up most congratulations with a firm handshake and wished him the best of luck. It is my understanding he will be attending Davidson College next fall? Good luck again on winning another state title. After what I witnessed yesterday and what people told me at the tourney, I believe you will successful on any of your endeavors.

Mark Johns

Lenz wrestled 125 because we were trying to beat Henry Clay in the dual match.  After we bumped him up against Henry Clay the only way we could get him out of the pool was to wrestle him at 125.

So did Lenz wrestle in the 125 finals against Rueger (Reitz)?

So did Lenz wrestle in the 125 finals against Rueger (Reitz)?

Yeah it was me who wrestled him. I normally am wrestling 112 but am having a lil trouble gettin back down to weight after a 2 weeks rest. I weighed 119 at the tourney and must say that Blake is no joke.

yeah that kid was nasty. anytime i tried to do anything, i set it up perfect and threw it all perfect, but he was just so quick to counter i couldnt hit it. i wish i could have wrestled him later in the day after i was a little warm and had gotten to see him wrestle. it would have made it a much better match. but i have no excuses i wasnt sick, or injured. he flat out beat me. i wish him luck in indiana. i heard he was a freshman as well. that was my first loss of the season, and i can only be happy that it was to a very good wrestler and not just someone i overlooked. the closest we came to winning against rietz, besides nathans win, was zac brown. his match went into overtime. other than that, everyone got dominated. griggs started out wrestling well and actually had the lead for a little while. but rietz was so good on top, once he got down he didnt get up. he got stuck late in the third while being down by four i think.
