Kentuckywrestling.com HS Rankings 2008/2009 - JAN 7

Topic ID: 4631 | 109 Posts

Lots of wild and crazy wrestling going on around the state.  Too many upsets (in the middle of the pack) to make any sense of and still a number of guys dealing with injuries.

Overall, it looks like Trinity has taken back the spot as the dominant team.  And there is a good chance that the top 6 or 7 teams will produce at least 10 of the champs.

Still having issues with the attachment.

how did oleary of southern go back after he just beat the #8 ranked kid

Olhman's going to be tough to beat at 145 love to see the match up between him and Dusty. It'd be a real dog fight, they're both very aggressive wrestlers. Really comes down to who is better on the mat and I give the advantage to Olhman.

I havn't seen Ohlman this year yet.  Kids strong as an ox.  Brown vs Ohlman will be a good match.  I give Brown the edge in this one though.  His offense is much better then Ohlmans.

Alright Tre Such is ranked. Now all Robbie Sahms needs to do is got some more wins to go with his defeat of Tyler Martin. And from what I know Kyra Hudson is a senior.

im confused on how TC's heavy is ranked below HC's after he beat him 2x at TCI

jordan blakemore isn't allowed at 171 for awhile so he's going to be wrestling a lot of 189

In case you didn't notice, Northington isn't #8 anymore and O'leary went out very early at WCI losing to Miles of Oldham in the consolation.  It's not all based on one match.

Get one of the thousand Tates Creek guys no here to send me the brackets for the TCI and I'll get that info.  All I hear about are the numerous matches Gray has lost.

woodford has a wrestler ranked at every weight class, that is way better than anticipated before.

Clay Keugal is ranked twice at 140 and 145

u have woods and fields ranked at 135 for prp

Jullian Sanchez for Central is no longer wrestling.  Please remove from 130 rankings.

Tanner flynn from Caldwell county is wrestling 215 this weekend, also mark payne is staying 215 and preston lashley is going to 189 for christian i just talked to him last week

Good work Ranger... 35?!?

umm...how are you going to inform someone about another teams little lashley hasn't been to practice in awhile..so i dont expect him to be wrestling anything anytime soon. Don't believe someone from outside of our team can inform someone else about our lineup.

woodford has a wrestler ranked at every weight class, that is way better than anticipated before.

I don't see anyone from Woodford Co. at 112.  Is Shane White wrestling?

woodford has a wrestler ranked at every weight class, that is way better than anticipated before.

I'm sure Ranger expected woodford to be good this year, but just didn't know who would step up and where.

Louis Beto from Danville at 145 should be top 15. He won TCI, pinned McCrCent(ranked #20) in the semis and dec. Dunbar in the finals.

Earlier in the yr he pinned Wright from Seneca (ranked #6).

At region 2 duals he pinned Chenault (ranked #15) from Central hardin, and beat Hall (ranked #11) from Larue.

Not sure but his record is about 22-2.

I know Danville is a hard team to get results for but you can find all the aforementioned results at www.amnews.com.  Larry Vaught for the Danville paper actually does a decent job covering Region 2.

Thanks for your hard work, Ranger.

Thanks for the info.  The site as well.  I'll check it out to keep up on those guys.

Good work Ranger... 35?!?

Yeah, I tried that at the end of last season (I think).    That gives me a chance of capturing almost every kid that should qualify for state.  In that perfect world where all results get reported we would rank all 87 (or so).

Woodford's 112 is being decided in wrestle-offs this week.  I don't know who is involved in them though and it might changed again later in the season too.  It would be safe to not even rank at 112 pounder for them unless someone steps up big at a tournament here soon.  About Shane White he hasn't been practicing much but I don't know why.  I do know the coaches hope he can come back because he is a pretty good wrestler and can possibly score some points for them at state.

I don't see anyone from Woodford Co. at 112.  Is Shane White wrestling?

Last I heard, from a very good source, Shane won't be wrestling this year.  He wouldn't be at 112 if he was wrestling, he's grown a lot.

What happened to Kyle Forbes from North Oldham?  He disappeared from the rankings at 160 last week.  He isn't there this week either?????

Look again.  He is right there, #22.

Okay, he must have gone up in weight.  He is listed at 171.

Kyle Knight is our (South Oldham) 171 lber and he beat Taylor Menard 5-3 at Region Duals

Grant Stringer from PLD beat #27  AB  Kaleb Patrella in the semis at TCI.

i know this just asking how oleary went from 19 to 22 after he beat northington who is 14 now

i dint understand how the Lawrence county program isn't ranked. they have the best coaching staff in eastern Kentucky, led by Todd norton and assisted by 3 time state champion Jacob murton and his brother 2 time state champion jarius. theyre gonna a tough team when they get to their regionals. they have 3 really good wrestlers in the Rigsby brothers and Ramsey Compton...theyre young but dont count them out

So the Murtons are helping out.  So neither one is wrestling for Campbellsville anymore?

Has Matt Neal (189) wrestled yet this year?

I think the franklin county 103 should be ranked. his last name is marston. i dont know who all hes beaten but he placed at wci.

hood from moco beat the woodford county 215 and is still unranked? Why isnt chase richie from bourbon county and shanks from Madison Central ranked. Shanks signed middle linebacker for eku.

Good for him, he's going to college. This is WRESTLING not FOOTBALL

Robbie Sahms who I think was undefeated last year until he injured his elbow and has pinned Tyler Martin this year is cutting to 130, and people on the team thinks he should be ranked.

tyler boone (ohio) only lost to jimmy lacy (lafayate) by 2 in ot n he is ranked low???

i dint understand how the Lawrence county program isn't ranked. they have the best coaching staff in eastern Kentucky, led by Todd norton and assisted by 3 time state champion Jacob murton and his brother 2 time state champion jarius. theyre gonna a tough team when they get to their regionals. they have 3 really good wrestlers in the Rigsby brothers and Ramsey Compton...theyre young but dont count them out

Where is Lawrence County wrestling this season?  We would like to see them.  They pulled out of two meets we were at this year.

Haha, you cant base a kid on wrestling, just casue he might be good in football.

Two different sports

isnt shamon brown a 215???

isnt shamon brown a 215???

Yeah, I saw he tested out 189 so I moved him.  Then I heard he was staying at 215 and forgot to move him back.

One big reply instead of individual responses.  Losing close doesn't justify moving up the rankings.  And highlighting one win doesn't early a lot of points either, especially if you are ignoring the losses on the record.  Give me the whole story.

Almost forgot.  I am a huge fan of the Murtons.  Some of my favorite wrestlers all time.  But they earn you exactly zero, zilch, nada.  Last time I checked, coaches weren't allowed to wrestle your matches for you.

not cryin or nuthin but why am i ranked below gray cooper and foley at heavy wieght when i finished above them at tci. and i beat gray and foley at tci. jus wondering  :|

Tyler Hooker prime example.

Why don't you take the time and explain to Ranger that Hood is at 215 for Mont Co and not Fawns (who he has ranked #20) or do you think a JV 215 deserves a #20 state ranking? No disrespect to Fawns intended. Hood has not wrestled Semones at 215 as his first time at 215 this year was at the Region 7 Duals. Check their common opponents at 215 from the regional duals on and it might help you understand the rankings a little better. I'm sure Ritchie and Shanks aren't ranked because the rankings are based upon wrestling performance. What are their records and who have they beat? What does playing middle linebacker have to do with wrestling? Look for Pravasic of HC to move up the rankings at 215 after the 5-Star this weekend.

Nathan Gray has beaten Trey Gentry (Woodford)

Grant Stringer from PLD beat #27   AB   Kaleb Patrella in the semis at TCI.

I think he's also beaten #19 TC Nick Lalonde and #30 HC John Walton

i dont think walton has wrestled this year

i dont think walton has wrestled this year

yeah thats what i was thinking.

Now that's a little more like it.  Way to step up to the plate TCWrassler.

kyle terry beat terrance demery 9 to 5 today at region 2 duals

Robbie Sahms beat Partick Bunch from Ohio today, at 130. He has also pinned Tyler Martin earlier in the year, and got off to a great start last year before injuring his elbow at Apollo

Matt Zarth lost to the indiana kid from reitz in the finals today at The 5 Star Classic @ Lafayette.

Ranger Kyle Marston of franklin county high school has defeated several top 25 wrestlers at 103 and have yet to see his name on the rankings. Maybe you have him confused with franklin high school in ohio.

Blue (112) from Fort Campbell has beaten Meade but I doubt you consider that enough of a win to get somebody ranked

greg hibbard of perry county central should be ranked at 140 he  has a record of 10-2 and is undefeated in the region and also beat the #4 ranked tyler grimm...

when did this happen?

If you want to get someone ranked, tell Ranger who they beat/when/how. Ranger works hard to get this kind information and if no one tells him who did what, the rankings will not change. Keep him informed to keep the rankings updated.

Hibbard is doing well this season but has not wrestled Grimm.  He has pinned Saner and Caudill both of Johnson, and pinned Sweet of Wayne, Hurstle Upchurch of McCreary, Miles of Letcher and Newsome of Whitley. He lost a decision to LaLonde of Tates Creek 13-6.

umm...how are you going to inform someone about another teams little lashley hasn't been to practice in awhile..so i dont expect him to be wrestling anything anytime soon. Don't believe someone from outside of our team can inform someone else about our lineup.

well im actually good friends with lashley so i figured it was good info sorry

8th Austin stepp 160 beat 3rd jordan freeman dec. 3-0 this weekend at the Nitro Pat vance inv. The news is from jc that freeman is dropping down to 152 then JJ jude is going 145. So ranger there some weight class updates!

Matt Slone S.C will be 135.

what ever happend to the lawrence county wrestling program, they used to be pretty good. and what happend to chriz kazee (189) you talk about a fall from the top. but I think they'll be back someday

I think Judson Pittman (Paducah) is at 145 now cause I saw him lose to Andy Kiper (Ohio) on saturday

Mister Cobble will not be able to wrestle this year due to a knee injury.  He will have surgery later this week.  I truly think that he would have been high on the podium this year. I wish him luck at University of Kentucky with fellow Central Alum heavy Corey Peters.

if im not mistakin, trevor maxwell pinned #6 ricky wright at the harrison county invitational and beat louis beto by decision.. hes only been beatin twice once was out of state.

Hope Mister Cobble rehabs and gets back to full strength. I'm looking forward to watchin him swallow up O-linemen in the SEC for the next four yrs.

i think 35 is to much

i like top 20

it gives something for kids to try for

not just yeah im ranked 34th in the state (maybe in Indiana)

34th just doesnt sound good

peronally id be mad if i was ranked 34th

jared smith the 125 from fort campbell only beat zach pitman from paducah 5-3 last saturday. it was a tight match the whole way through, i actually think pitman was in the lead for most of the match.

pitman also beat the guy from carmi-white illinois 8-3. the kid from carmi-white beat keaton starks from calloway and i think may have beaten smith from fort campbell but i didnt see that match.

we just found out today that zac brown will be out the rest of the season due to a tear in his knee

yes it is true zac brown is out for the rest of the season, we are all really bummed out about this. zac wrestled and won many tough matches with this injury shows how truly tough he is. still got one more year!

on the subject of 112 wrestler i heard lenz couldnt go 12 anymore? whats going on?

yes Lenz can still go 112.  He weighed in tonight at 117.  He will wrestle 119 at Franfort and be back at 112 the 31st.

That sucks to hear about Z. Brown.  He is a great athlete and carries himself with great sportsmanship on and off the mat. I wish him a speedy recovery.

really cause i heard since he bumped up two weight classes he had to forfeit the weight class he was last at which would be 112 but i guess i was told wrong

I don't think that rule applies anymore.  In the old days when you had to certify at a weight if you wrestled up 2 weight classes from your certification weight you were automatically certified up a weight.

hey ranger, new rankings coming out tonight or tomorrow night?

Tomorrow night.

I don't think that rule applies anymore.  In the old days when you had to certify at a weight if you wrestled up 2 weight classes from your certification weight you were automatically certified up a weight.

This is after Saturday of week 30.  You have to make weight by that day, if you then weigh in 2 weight classes up you forfiet the origional certification.  At 112 you can weigh in at 119 and then wrestle at 125 and keep your 112 certification.  If you weigh in at 125 you forfiet the 112 certification.  Before week 30 you are only limited by your weight decent plan.

so this rule doesnt even apply to him, cause he weighed 117, not above 119.

Correct.

Don't tempt me.  35 does 2 things.  It somewhat matches up with the number that qualify for state.  Because some regions are tougher than others not to mention upsets and injuries, the top won't all qualify.  So hopefully, when the names show up on the state tournament brackets it won't be the first time they've been in print.  I hope to capture them here first.  Second, when you see those weights with blanks (or 0s) at the end then I tend to get a few suggestions at those weights.  So it generates a little more feedback as well.  There is no reason guys shouldn't still shoot to improve and move up the rankings.  The same could be said for top 20.  Why be happy with that.  Shouldn't you at least shoot to get on the podium?  That would suggest that I should only do the top 8.  And what fun would that be.  I'd actually have to go to bed before midnight occasionally.

yeah ranger i understand both sides of this. its better to have too much information, than not enough though, so keep up the good work. 35 is a good number, hopefully it will get much easier to rank the top 35 as teams start sending more and more results.

Essentially that rule is void anyway.  The descent plan handles that for you.  If you plan to wrestle 112 (114) and weigh in over 121 during the last few weeks of the season the descent plan wouldn't allow you to go back to 114 anyway.  The rule is obsolete.

And you have to remember.  One of these days we will live in a paradise where all results (duals and tournaments) are reported to the state or the coaches association and every varsity kid in the state will show up on here.  Hopefully, it happens before I die.  Maybe it will even happen before Ranger jr (or Billy Fuller) has to take over for me.

lol yeah hopefully. although it would suck starting out, and knowing you are dead last in your state.

Yeah, if I have to start browsing over threads where kids are arguing between a 58th and 59th ranking I'll probably never visit this site again  :-)

top 10 or 15... but thats about as far as i care to see

Haha, you cant base a kid on wrestling, just casue he might be good in football.

Two different sports

unless your talking about whiting lol

lol yeah hopefully. although it would suck starting out, and knowing you are dead last in your state.

What really sucks is that Ranger would be DEAD and some other person would have to do the rankings. :-D

before rankings come out again keep in mind that Nelsons 103 Daniel Pile beat JH Danny Crittenden, and Dan. Daniel Lannum at region 2 duals and Nelsons 215 Josh Bowman has beaten Ft Knox's Kevin Mcnealy, and Har Co Daniel Kiskoden and he also got into a one to two point match with both Evan Hester and Drew Newberry

unless your talking about whiting lol

Thats just a different story lol

last weekend at the 5 star Nathan Gray beat Houston Croney

Is Kevin Cooper realy at 119? He looked like a big 125 last I saw him.

Is Kevin Cooper realy at 119? He looked like a big 125 last I saw him.

Kevin Cooper was indeed at 119 a couple of weeks ago at a tourney at St X in Cincinnati.

hood 215 from montgomery beat woodfords 215 and he isnt ranked  shanks from madison central is signed with eku as middle linebacker and he needs to be ranked

when cooper went 119 at St. X (Ohio) he got dominated by osborne

Nelsons Josh Taylor beat Har co Berry at 145 but I noticed that they are both at 140 now just throwing that out there. and he also had a good match with Irq Rayshawn Graham at the Bruin Duals maybe lost by one and he also had a heck of a match against central hardins John Ereble which he lost but in my opinion it could of went the other way if there wasn't a ref problem

What was the score?

It was at the Nelson County Duals

Rupp (eas) at 145 beat #28 Gibson (prp), #21 Deng (cen), and #10 Hendren (kcd) at JCTC

What was the score?
