YES, thank God for justice and karma.  I have tried to be open minded but they are so arrogant and obnoxious and it's not just the team but the parents.  One of the moms even threatened to beat up my 14 year old daughter because she had on our team's shirt.  I know that this sport is intense and the competition is fierce but they do not know where to draw the line.  There is a lot to be said about sportsmanship.  I know that the team I support has its faults and is hated by many.  However, no one in the state can compare to them.  I am glad their dominance has been challenged so maybe they can learn some humility and sportsmanship.

I have wrestled against Woodford many many times and have beaten a few of their kids and to be honest have had my tail handed to me on more than one occasion by Harrison Courtney and I must say I couldnt disagree with you more. In fact i thiunk the wrestlers and their fans are very respectful and respectable. I talk to alot of these guys and i know they are great guys. But on the mat they are there for one purpose and one purpose only and that is to beat you. You're going to have turd fans no matter where you go but I dont think Woodford has more than anyone else.In fact I know other teams have worse fans as i have seen time and time again at the State Duals and the State Tournament.They are a great team and may be going through a "down season" as some may call it but to them anything short of a championship is a down year.I know many who still hate getting on the mat with the black and gold.

Every one wants to beat the best... Do it why you can cause I dont see them staying down for long, and I never can imagin them dropping as low as Hopkinsville and C.C. has since their dominant years. They are the team we love to hate, but just like Mater Dei.  God I cant stand Mater Dei !!!

Yes, they are very down.  Simply reason.  They don't have a strong youth program any longer.  There are a lot of middle school programs in the state now and Woodford hasn't dominated that aspect anymore.  Look why Trinity will probably win state this year.  It was the old Fern Creek youth program pretty much.

Its a testamony to Coach Carr what he is getting out of the group of kids he has now.

Sacred cows make the best hamburger. For years people thought is was Joe Carr Sr's magic spinning out the championships. I think we can now see how important Coach Parks was. What does Trinity have to do with this thread other than they're the new team to hate on.

About Olympic-Wish's signature, I can honestly say that when Woodford doesn't win it all many in the program feel like they came up short, which they did because the goal EVERY year is to be the best.  Period.  Not that 2nd or 3rd is anything not to be proud of but the expectations are set high at Woodford for a reason.  One of my old high school teachers had a saying, "Reach for the stars.  You may not always get one, but you won't come up with a handful of dirt either."  Most of the time people don't reach their goals.  If you aim for 3rd then you'll probably get anywhere from 3-6.  But if you really aim for 1st then you'll probably finish 1-4, generally speaking.  The goal for every wrestler, every year should be to win it all, no exceptions.

We also realize that not everyone is going to love us and we're ok with that, hence my signature. :-D

I agree that is quite bold.  I recognize that they have some young talent in the program, but to go out on a limb like that is a stretch.  Union has been on top of the hill for a couple years now.  And they have some beastly kids coming through their MS program that will keep them challenging for a while.  Now if there was a bylaw added by the KHSAA that made anyone with the last name Ervin ineligible, then I would say you have a shot.

Well-said, pmilf103. I've talked with some of the Woodford parents in the stands and found them very nice and friendly and also complimentary of some of my team's wrestlers. I've also witnessed a couple of wrestlers from Woodford who were real jerks, but I've seen some on other teams, too.

I agree.  Many of the kids that prevuously wrestled for the Fern Creek MS program weren't even from the Fern Creek area in the first place!  They just wrestled there because it had a quality youth program.  To imply that they didn't go to Fern Creek HS because they were recruited by Trinity is just nonsense.  There are several other HS programs in Jeff Co. that have quality kids that at one time wrestled at Fern Creek.  Were they recruited as well?

Trinity might win 1 or 2 titles but i wouldn't forget about that LaRue team. There middle school team has won three strait state titles and most of those kids are 9th and 10th graders. I look for them to make a run at a state title over the next three or four years.

Larue fans are outrageous at times. And the whole forfeit out when you have the dual won or lost (as the middle school team this last weekend), sticks in my craw.

OMG!!!!!  I cannot believe that people would seriously pick Woodford over LaRue.  I am not affliated to either; HOWEVER, our team has had to sit in the section next to both of these teams.  Woodford had their crap everywhere, stood in front of us  while we were styring to watch matches, trashed with food and drink their area of the gym and OBNOXIOUS when ask to respect the teams around them.  Not to say that things did not get heated during matches but as least they were respectful of the gym, their space and moved out of the way when asked.  Having 13 trophies only proves that Woodford earned more points not that they were TRUE champions. TRUE champions are winners on and off the mat!!!!!!

i agree with you hotmamma. the thing that sets me off about woodford is the obnoxious yelling(i think they are yelling fall) at duals even though the opponent is clearly not pinned.

I really hate to put people down but we sit in the same section as them. They try to rope off their seats [even when it's our seats], i've been mean mugged and mean mouthed by parents [when asking them to sit or things of that nature]. They really are an obnoxious type. These are the parents, etc. I've actually found the wrestlers to be pretty cool.

I heard they practice voodoo and sacrifice young goats too. Come on lady give it a break you also said  one of them threatened your daughter too but i dont think anyone believes that either. If such was the case why didnt you call the police?  My team has long been a rival of Woodford's and they are very passionate but they aren't like what you make them to be . I respect the wrestlers and their parents and their coaches.Heck,the guy that coaches them in the off season has actually coached me when i was at the same tournaments as them and didnt have a coach and actually showed me alot of things that have helped me in my wrestling career.Not many people will necessarily do that.But on the other hand i respect the Larue wrestlers but not the fans. They, in general but not all , show no class.

Look every great program has its down time. Woodford has had a great run over the last 15 to 18 years and it is impressive how they were able to maintain that level of excellence for that long.They also had a great run through the 70's when they won 5 state titles. But don't forget that for 15 years they were an after thought. I wrestled in the 80's when Woodford wasn't any good and that is being nice. Only one individual state champ in the 80's. I'm not putting them down it is a fact.

Who knows how long this drought is going to last (hopefully not 15 years) but one thing is for sure they will be back its not a question of if its a question of when. Every program has its ups and downs.

One thing i do know is that the top teams in the state have great middle school programs. You can look at the middle school teams over the last 5 years and you can predict the who is going to be the top three teams at state for the next 3 to 5 years. Middle school wrestling is changing the way everyone is looking at Ky wrestling and it is great to be a part of it!!!!!!!!!!!!

LaRue definitely has the most obnoxious fans, and that's being nice.  Yes the Woodford team does yell "faaaaaaallllll" when the pin is close but everybody does what they can to influence the officials, admit it.  One team pounds the mat when they think there's a pin.

If you don't like sitting next to Woodford at state then don't sit there, it's really not that difficult.

I don't know, maybe.  I think they just got into full swing with the video webcasts last fall, so I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.

Well, so far they have broadcasted soccer (men's and women's), basketball (men's and women's), wrestling, and football. I am pretty sure they will be broadcasting every sport now that they have the ability. Over 3000 people watched the finals of WCI and over 12,000 watched the women's soccer game against East Jessimine. So I would say that tennis will get some coverage as well.

actually woodford graduated 10 seniors last year. so they lost more then half of there team. but this is more of a rebuilding year for them

I think that's true. At the Dragon, I thought Woodford fans and team members behaved fine. Over the years I've seen obnoxious fans and wrestlers from lots of teams. No one team is perfect, and no one team is hateful. It's always bad to generalize because of a group someone comes from.

I will also say -- I continue to be impressed with Harrison Courtney. He's an awesome wrestler as well as a decent young man.
