Kenton Co. Trophy

Topic ID: 474 | 13 Posts

SCOTT High will be the home of the Kenton County Trophy for the next year, by virtue of their winning the Kenton County Duals held at Simon Kenton. Scott defeated both Dixie and Simon to earn bragging rights. Lot of really great matches.

The Coopers look like they are ready for their runs at state championships and Daniel Thueneman is starting to get back in a groove after sitting out for a couple of weeks due to an injury suffered at woodford county. Dixie was at a disadvantage in this one as they did not have a full roster. Both Scott and Simon overwhelmed them. Dixie's 160 looked real good, defeating Hudson Rison and giving Cooper a good match. Interestingly, it seems that both Coopers are having problems with making weight. I wonder how this is going to effect the regionals if this is issue continues into next weekend?

After they both defeated Dixie; Simon and Scott squared off in a showdown. The points shifted back and forth. One big factor was the Miley/ MgGuffey match. It was real tight early then Mcguffey busted his lip and had to use up all but 16 seconds of his blood time. he made good use of it coming back in and going up on points, then started bleeding again. they managed to stop the blood with about 1/2 second of blood time remaining. Unfortunately for him he started bleeding and was out of blood time, and the referee stopped the match, giving Miley the win and giving Scott what ended up being the swing points they would need to take home the trophy. With Scott up 35-32, The HWT's squared off and Scott's Adam Patterson, pulled out a victory in Overtime to secure the Championship. Congratulations Eagles, and good luck to all the wrestlers and coaches.

It night be smart for the cooper's to bump up, especially the 152. If he bumps up to 160, there is no one who can give him a match. There isn't anyone at 160 that could give the top 3 at 152 a decent match. Why struggle with weight when you you'll have an easier road to the championship at the next weight up?

Yes, makes sense. especially if you are having trouble making weight.

King has wrestled Cooper close when Cooper bumped to 160. I also think Hildreth would give any of the 152's a good match.

Hey HHdad why wasn't Holmes there? Aren't they in Kenton Co?

Wrestling someone close and having an actual chance of winning are two different things. I agree hildreth and king can keep the score respectable, but very doubtful they could beat him. Just my opinion. I'd say wolsifer is a bit tougher than any of the 160's.

I think Holmes only had a couple kids wrestle last week. They've really struggled to field even half dozen. I think they went to North Hardin last week. I know their 152 wasn't going to wrestle (SAT), their 125 is out with a broken arm, the 145 may have quit, and they have no one above 152. I think they'd prefer to wait and wrestle these guys at regionals.

Holmes is considered a Covington Independent - not Kenton County Schools

Was the trophy for Kenton County Schools or schools in Kenton County?

Kenton County Schools

i know you cant always go off of last year but when two kids havnt wrestled this year it is all you have to go off of. with that said, austin cooper has beaten wolsiefer twice last year. so he would more than likely win state at 152 or 160. its nice to have your pick, especially if making weight is an issue. fact is he is 43-0 with his biggest tournament win being at the gmvwa, which hosted 2 state champs from d2 and d3 from ohio and several other placers. honestly it is more competitive than our state championship. he won that at 152. so he has nothing else to prove at 152. he may still do it at 152 but he is undoubtedly the number one seed at 52 or 60. also dont overlook josh cooper at state champ at either 145 or 152. he is looking incredible and peaking at the right time.

Sandman is soooooooooooo right on the Coopers

I agree he can win it at either weight. I was just saying there is no reason to fight your weight if you are the best wrestler at both weights classes.
