Who's the favorite?

- no 2 in the nation pinning through for his 4th title

- junior winning his 5th title a few months after ACL surgery

- winner of the battle of seniors at 150

- most dominant senior in the finals?

- biggest upset in the finals

- lowest ranked kid to win

- the kid that upsets the giant HWTS

- ?

George Dennis if he wins 144. He went in early and said that was his weight and has taken all challengers. Wrestled all the top kids at 144 and won. No games or moving weights just stayed in there.

Whoever goes undefeated vs the toughest competition.

I agree George should be up there for sure, he has had a great season!

At the same time It is hard for me to not give It to one of the Raneys. They are pretty much getting docked for being so dominant nobody looks like good competition. If George wins a stacked 144 and Jordyn goes out and pins Landon in the first period who do you give It to? George and Landon had a close match.

Would be cool if there was a "Hodge" like award for overall season dominance as well based on statistical fact. I know It would be hard with some teams having really weak schedules and teams like Union going through fire all season.

I am sure the Raneys are going to try and battle It out for Most Pins in Quickest time which is the only award they can "control".

It would be laughable if one of the Raney's didn't get MOW but you know how that goes. Can't tell me they aren't the most "outstanding" wrestlers. It makes sense for one to get it this year and another next, but that is voted on by the coaches.

Didn't Jordyn win MOW last year?

Many trains of thought on MOW.

Some view it as:

1)  Most dominant wrestler in the state?

-Take your pick between the twins, this year JJ due to having a full season in.

2)  Who had the best tournament / toughest bracket?

-As it stands now, 144 looks to be the toughest.  George also navigated through a tough bracket last year, so if he does it again it is hard to deny, honestly.

3)  Was their an underdog who wrestled their butt off and did the unexpected?

I like options 2 or 3.  The most dominant wrestler in the state, like Boston said, should be done similar to the Hodge, or like Kentucky's Mr. Basketball or Mr. Football, which are both after season awards.

You are right lol.

Not sure why Boston said they are getting docked.  I also think Jordyn wins next year as the first 6-timer.

I'm not saying they are getting docked unless you give It to someone based on being in a competitive bracket, In theory take away Braxton and 106 is just as competitive as 144 just without accolades lol. People keep saying toughest bracket because there is a little bit of title contention at 144. Raneys would tech pin through 144 so what are people basing toughest bracket off of? Toughest bracket to win is the one with a twin in It.

Ahhh, gotcha.

Toughest bracket is obviously where they are because you'd have to beat them, even though it is not necessarily hard for them.  There are a few kids that are completely capable of winning if they were to go up or down (think McCloskey at 126 or Evans at 144).

I think the "toughest" bracket is one where you have multiple contenders or maybe even quite a bit of returning state placers.  144 fits this criteria - although George has beaten everyone, the state tournament could yield different results.  TJ Meyer for example is good enough that it is very difficult to fathom someone beating him three times in a single season.  Ren gave George fits and may be the best pure wrestler out of the bunch.  Kaygen is always right in the fight, tough, and wrestles until the end.

I agree with you. It really just comes down to what coaches look at as the most "outstanding" achievement. George has had a great season and I wouldn't be upset if he got MOW based on the "depth" of 144. I could also see someone like Rider getting some votes. He went from losing to Micah at the all star classic to pinning him pretty convincingly the last two meetings. George and Rider would both obviously have to win state, they aren't the locks the twins are.

Evans wanted to go 144 but his coach wouldn’t let him just for your info. Not sure why you would have to ask his coach. Meaning that would all those guys had stayed at 144 and Landon moved up it would have been toughest all around bracket.

Landon told me word for word "Give me Raney, give me them both back to back if you want". He did also say his coach said no to 144 lol

No doubt it would be the toughest.  Landon is a monster and I would pick him all day at 144.

The Raney's just happen to be a generational talent that we may never again see come out of Kentucky.  While cool to watch them, it sucks for those that have to go against them haha.

I am good either way and if he approaches Jordyn like he does everybody else it can be a better match than what everyone thinks. Either way I’m proud of the young man’s wrestling career. Sad to see it coming to an end at least this chapter.

I appreciate that and your statement is absolutely correct. I do look forward to following those two in college for sure they are fun to watch.

I love Landon but he just took a loss to George like 2 weeks ago 4-3. Raney will pin or tech through without a lick of struggle. Anyone that thinks otherwise is just delusional.

I wasn’t insinuating other than he could last longer than most bud. Trust me I know where everyone through multiple weight classes stand with those two

"It can be a much better match than most people think" came off as It might be a somewhat decent match to me lol. I guess I read into It wrong. I wish Landon was able to go 144. I think we all know he is more than capable of winning It there if he got his offense going. Thats what I love about George, you know he is gonna attack non-stop and try to score.

No I have watched them kick his but thoroughly since youth I’m not confused on that part lol. I just meant not getting pinned as quickly cause most kids lose to them before walking on the mat.I wished he could have went 144 also. I like that about George and Landon both that’s why it’s such a good match.
