Head traps

what does everyone think about the great head trap?

It's my favorite move I have twelve pins off it this season.

RECORD:13-19

How many of the 19 losses were due to you getting put on your back because you live and die by it?  Might want to learn something new and turn your record upside down.  Head locks are great when your opponent doesn't stay in a good position otherwise it is more of a desparation move in the last period when you need 4 or 5 points from your feet.

True, a head lock is only used when your loosing by 5 or 6 with 30 seconds left.

is this the same thing as a cowboy?

it seems to be more of a fight for your life move or something its just kind of a... head trap

is this the same thing as a cowboy?

yup that hillbilly wrestling

No ita just a good move. I bet there are no other moves that create points so easily other than the headtrap. Nothin in neutral, on top, or bottom can do it quite so great.

But no its not desperation, im just fat and dont like to wrestle past the first period so i throw it and it works out quite nicely as you can see from my record. I should be 32-0 off of it but my shoulder was messed up for a while.

No cowboys suck, it a middle school , no elementry school wrestling move. its a move that the trashy kids saw on wwf and said "i wanna do dat" and there are plenty of 5 point moves, lat drop, under-arm spin, two on one trip, duck under to a lace. and some regular shots blast doubles, single leg to a crack down, sweep trip to back. on top easy move is the eastwood, simple flop, mc nasty haha, etc. you just suck and think your going to succed with the cowboy but i garantee if you wrestle me and try to cowboy me youll get toss backwards or rolled threw. and if that doesnt work all u have to do is hook the leg and roll or get your hips up and pull your head out.

Come on Kentucky10, you left off the best moves of all.  How about the Cleveland Steamer, Dirty Sanchez, Blumpy & Oil Check?

sounds like kentucky10s been caught in way too many head locks...

actually none ever, never been cowboyed, well no i take that back i was once by bryce alexander in middle school, it was like his only move, and he wasa very strong 96 lbser but he didn't pin me i rolled threw i think. and i would stop worring about me getting headlocked if i were you, cause i bet that southern dude is coming back for more hahaha.

On bottom you have a peterson roll.

haha

so if a Olympian used a cowboy in a match would it still be a middle school no elementary school move

5 bucks sez i can kowboy you n make you blow snot bubbles and wheeze like a Marlboro baby. It's such an elementary move that the Iowa Hawkeyes use it. Does the 10 stand for IQ?

so what is a cowboy?

any move that works is a good move

Couldn't of put it better. :)

Headlocks are where it's at :P

A headlock or "cowboy", or "head & Arm".  Whatever you call it is not a high percentage move.  This is not to say that it cannot be successfully hit on a good wrestler.  If set up correctly and used as a suprise move you can catch anyone in one.

However it cannot be continually successfull against high caliber wrestlers if it is your primary move. (Unless MAYBE you are a HWT) Even if you are a HWT once everyone knows that is your only move they will eather stop it or just not allow you to set it up.

I have seen it used many times in the past by high caliber wrestlers, but once again it was not their A#1 move.

Unless you are David Richie. He could throw a headlock from anywhere. He is also the best 105 and 112 pound wrestler to ever come through the state. He pinned his way through state three strait years. I don't know anyone else that has accomplished that feat.

Sorry dagger but you perked my interest and had to look this one up.  I believe he was one of the most dominant in the state also but we must get the stats correct.

After dusting off my state brackets.  I found this.

David Ritchie

Fresh.  98lbs  1st and 2nd round pins.  Loss to Whelan 14-10.  Defeated Barnes 18-12 then defeated See 11-3 for a 3rd place finish.

Soph. 105lbs  1st round pin.  2nd round defeated Nohalty 18-0 (no tech pins back then) Simis pin, Finals pin.

Jr. 112lbs  1sd and 2nd round pins.  Defeated Jamie Baugh 12-6 in semis.  Finsals pin of John Poindexter.

Sr. 112lbs (8 man bracket becuase of Semi state tourney)  1st round pin.  2nd round defeated Zack Means 3-0 Finals pin.

Came close to pinning through but fell short each year.

Side note:  I know this is on another thread;  John Poindexter could be added to that list of greatest never to win a title.

Bulldog leader, you are the man. I loved the way you called BS on that pin all 3 years quote. That was also during my era and I never recalled those stats. If my memory serves me well, I think there was only one wrestler in 1985 who pinned-em-all, lol.

wat is a head trap :? :? :? :?

wat is a head trap :? :? :? :?

ppl who do head traps r punks they punks

Head traps frustrate me alot. Our first coach this year showed them once in practice and never again. But almost all of our wrestlers will only try that move. Back before we were able to get a coach I was trying to it make so we would never teach it in the first place and only focus on shots for the new guys. But now we are stuck with alot of our new guys going straight to their back because of a poorly executed head and arm at the start of the match

Hey IPEA;  you may want to get that arm checked out.  I'm sure one of your orthopedic buddies could fix that broken arm. :-D

Maybe they can even set it up so that it will be easier for you to pat your own back, since you do it so often.   :-o

so if a Olympian used a cowboy in a match would it still be a middle school no elementary school move

yea it doesn't matter who uses it, ive seen nate carr do somthing like it, and i still think its crap. good try

What do you mean, I had it intentionally broken and set so I could do just that! Why would I want to have it any other way?

i'll take that, already tried to take one bet on here and that guy backed out so ill try again, my email is [email protected] email me get more info i'll wget the look on you. now im a lower weight so if youre like 160 to hvy ill have to pass til after season. Now i bet you can't even prepare to COWBOY me and you say you are going to make me have snot bubbles, for 5 bucks. Got it, actually the 10 is for your IQ (sez, kowboy ??) yea never seen a hawkeye use it sorry but please if you have tell me where  you have and i'll still think its a crap move and say "why are the hawkeyes using a bad move"

Let's clarify "cowboy".  In my world, it is not a head n arm but a chancery or cement job. If that is the case the Hawks used it for years and you can call it crap if you want.  It is high percentage and fundamentally simple.  Yes, it is taught at the Elem. because it is safe and easy to learn but so is a half nelson.  Let me guess, thats garbage too?

You won't be getting a look on me as I no longer wear the uniform and no you cannot have my email.

no a cowboy is when you are in a standing position and  lets say you set it up right , you have fish hook and post, you push with fore-arm on fish hook side, leading on that the other wrestler pushes back, when he does you pull on the fish hook, throw the post around his head, and either hip toss him over or just indian sit(a bit safer) and the reason they call it a cowboy is because if you have ever seen a rodeo and they do the event called 'calf wrestling" the rodeoers/cowboys do the exact same thing except to a baby cow. YES 1 point me! and its ok i don't need a look on you mister grapplez with nutz. and by the way a cement MIXER isn't the same move as a chancery, a gator roll or cement job is when you have someone in a front head lock and you roll under( more of  freestyle move) i dont know what world you come from but where ever it was they sucked at wrestling, keep that uniform off Nutz

First, a fish hook is something you use in Fishing but I guess I can relate to your world.  I know what a Mixer is and what a cement job is and what a chancery is.  Many years in many states, many camps terms get mixed and matched.  Thanks for clarification, either way I could probably set it up though it wasn't bread and butter.

I guess I (we) did suck pretty bad, somehow I didn't win the popularity contest on best pound for pound.  Our team must have sucked too when we ran through state.  Let's see how you do at state and if you don't walk through it, then I am wasting my time.  Better hang on to that 1 pt. lead.

just drop it grapplez with nutz you were wrong except that and where i come we have blown threw plenty state tournys 13 to be exact. why are you wasting time ,stop doing it ,lets meet, lets wrestle, you wont cowboy me end of discussion. 2 pts me

13 titles must make you a stud, how many were you a part of and how many did you win?

Will you be at the top of the podium or not?

a fish hook to me is where someone uses their index or middle finger and puts it in their opponents mouth and pulls. Like a hook in a fish's mouth.

1 point me  :-D

the cement job and the cement combo mixer works great, and if setup correctly is 100 percent safe, just like any other move. i have used it many times against many good wrestlers and either scored from it, or come up neutral.

Good old fashioned Kentucky roll-around... thats what this is.

WAT IS THE HEAD TRAP ANSWER ME THAT  :?

WAT IS THE HEAD TRAP ANSWER ME THAT  :?

read my post before.

How bout a take-down? Don't dance around what you can't take. Boo-Hoo Be_Otch

How bout a take-down? Don't dance around what you can't take. Boo-Hoo Be_Otch

thank you, why try throwing somebody, take them down, break them.

neither the cement job, or the cement mixer is a throw. the mixer is a roll, much like the gator roll, and the job is as much a takedown as anything else...hence the two points you get for hitting it  :-D

Is this the same thing as a head lock hip toss?

no, i dont even know how they got brought up in this post. i mentioned them, cause someone else mentioned them, but i dont know why.

If you're referring to tc125 then NO, if you're referring to the thread topic then YES.

we have different clarifications of this move. i don't know what u mean u don't know what i mean, this is going no where.

You're right, it is going nowhere.  I know what you mean and a head trap-cowboy are not the same.  And according to you, I must suck at wrestling, and so does Cary Kolat because we have the same interpretation.

i dont know what world you come from but where ever it was they sucked at wrestling, keep that uniform off Nutz

actually i take my word back about the whole head trap thing. after seeing metcalf get headlocked by caldwell, theres not much i can say
