I'm sorry friends, but I'm going to have to put me down for this one.

Y U might ask?

Because I have the best headtrap in Kentucky.

Under me I'd say Mason Reid

Caleb Irvin

Steven Blueberry

Steven Blueberry

harrison courtny

Matt Zarth

Fayhe

bradbury

bracco

Blueberry? thats not nice

I havent seen alot of Kentucky Wrestlers outside of Region 1 in action. So im just going to go and throw out a virtual nobody. Our 103, David Sahms, has possibly the best technique on the entire team. Depending on how you define good technique though. He can properly execute almost any move I can think of. This is basically the only way he wins matches, considering he only weighs about 90 pounds. His brother Robbie also had very good technique. And from my understanding they started Robbie's Freshman year.

all the ervins

harrison courtney

josh johnson

john fahy

steve norbury

I saw Fayhe wrestle at the Dragon, he's impressive. I was surprised when i realized what he looked like (no offense, I just pictured some kid who was massive) but he was unreal.

justin davis??? really???a technician...i mean hes good an i love watching him wrestle, but id bet he'd tell you himself all he works is netraul and standups...

no doubt that harrison is one of the best if not the best wrestler in the state i would not put him in the top technicians.

Technicians?  While many of the guys mentioned are good, I wouldn't say they are technicians.  Many are strong... and may hit some moves well... but I've seen a lot of sloppy moves work because the opponent didn't know how to counter, wasn't expecting and didn't react well, or just got lucky.

Justin works on everything. Not saying he's the best technician by any means, but he does work on everything  at practice. Although he stays neutral most of his matches. He was working some tilts on Omar at the Dragon though.

i will take your word on that, and im not taking anything away from him at all. but he is not a technician, although there are many other wrestlers that were mentioned in this thread that arent either. my vote goes to harrison courtney, of course.

I'll tell you two former wrestlers I think were great technicians -- Ben Rupp and Johnny Wolsifer. Both of them were very methodical in their approach. They took their time, knew how to counter. Didn't appear to be doing all that much and then, all of sudden would pull a move you weren't expecting, and you were done.

well grapplenutz is supposedly able to

"kowboy you n make you blow snot bubbles and wheeze like a Marlboro baby"

so i'd say if he is as good as he says he is he is #1

I would say my father in law Steve Hillock.  He wrestled for Woodford County in the early 70's.  He was an official in both Ky and Indiana.  I met him and introduced me to daughter its been over ever since.  We used to work on technique when I was in high school and I learned alot from him.  Now as a head coach in Indiana, i still use a few things he taught me to my wrestlers and my son, and Steve often travels to tourneys with my son when I cannot attend with High School tournaments.

what???? your insane, let me ask you something, ever seen any body get a shot on courtney? ever seen courtney ride on top? ever see courtney shoot in on a leg? HAVE YOU EVER WATCHED COURTNEY WRESTLE??? I would put him at the very top of our list. every shot he takes is at the best time. He can work his hips on top to where its like wearing a belt. i haven't seen very many people that wrestle like courtney does.

daniel thuenamen??? he made courtney look like he had never wrestled before in the third period last year. (if it was last year, i dont remember if it was last year or the year before) i think courtney let his guard down cause he just thought he had the match won, and he did go on to win in overtime, but daniel was definetly on his level.

Somone not mentioned...Mitch Ervin

Courtney was and still is heads and tails better than Theuneman.  Not even close.

Courtney was and still is heads and tails better than Theuneman.  Not even close.

That match will haunt Theuneman for the rest of his life and eternity

be that as it may it still nullifies kentucky 10's statement

bue sanders was better than courtney on his feet (or at least close). and im going to apologize in advance but you are and idiot if you think courtney is heads and tails over thuenamen yes i would say courtney is better but it is very close and could really go either way. the only place where courtney is a technician is on top. definitely not the best technician not close

well said and i agree

Fayhe is a beast... the kid is ranked nationally

i completely agree, his bottem work this year is also lacking. if he doesnt hit a peterson he doesnt hit anything.

Are you out of your friggin mind? Thueman was tearing Courtney up in the third. Take him down let him up take him down let him up he was beastin him in the third. Thueman got CHEATED out of that match. Courtney was stalling b/c he thought he had the match in the bag. Courtney should've been hit with stalling multiple times! This would have given Thueman the edge and the win. Thueman was working his butt off and got caught with a takedown. If better refs were in that match it would've been different but naw, we always have to have those yellow jacket hornet whatever they are butt kissing refs.

Bear, I agree with everything. That match is still vivid in my memory. It was reffed by Cattan. He would call Thueman out when he took Courtney down and say no points, then turned around and gave Courtney a takedown when he did it exactly the same way. Thueman was robbed.

Thank You. I'm glad someone realizes that this match was kind of fishy.

Are you serious?  You're actually saying that the refs favor Woodford, especially Cattan?  I'll agree that Courtney was on the defensive in the third period but he was by no means stalling.  Getting worked is probably a better description, until he hit a beautiful lateral drop to win and get the fall.

Ian Horn was the best technician I ever saw in person

I should have made an exception when I said I agreed with Bear on everything. I don't think the refs favor Woodford or anyone else. And I think, generally, they try their best at a tough job. But I will always believe Cattan called this one wrong. I didn't have a preference on who won, didn't have a particular interest in either wrestler. Everyone who was sitting around me that day just couldn't believe what was happening.

yea look out for grapplez with nutz, he is like the best wrestler in the history of wrestling, pins everyone with that kowboy

yea really made him look like he had never wrestled, it was his sophmore year and he stuck him, yea, never wrestled. and thuenaen was tough suppose to beat harrison, but harrison beat him at connder in the simis, then stuck him at state.

be that as it may it still nullifies kentucky 10's statement

comes nowhere close.

hey mouth,

never said I was the best, my credentials are what they are.  I never said I pinned everyone with a cowboy either.  Just trying to have a little fun online, yet you take things personal and call everyone out because you are the tough guy after all.

btw, are going to be on top of the podium or not?

hopefully grapplez with nutz, i mean i am the tough guy right? im the tough guy, after you said you were going to make me weeze like a marlboro baby..... yea im real tough.

If and when you get there, then we can chat.  Best of luck.  You liked the Marlbor quote didn't you.  I thought it was pretty funny myself.

I think Courtney would beat Theuneman 9 out of 10 times and pin him 7.

That qualifies as heads and tails better than him.

how come some people can hit a lat drop and its beautiful, and others, can hit one, and it's lucky???

Cattan was not the head official during the Courtney / thuenemann match. I think it was one of the shaws.I dont think cattan was even on the mat im pretty sure the other ref was the short kinda bald guy form indiana

After looking at the tape, cattan was not on that mat,i think it is one of the shaws who was the head ref and it is the indiana guy as the alternate ref.

how come some people can hit a lat drop and its beautiful, and others, can hit one, and it's lucky???

Umm, cause some people are 3-timers (4-timer to be) and others aren't.

Ive heard people talk about steve hillock and he did sound like a pretty smooth wrestler

you think that because your a bias idiot. i would say courtney is better but very very close.

(sorry for insults but its gotta be said)

Certainly. Courtney is good, very good. But not untouchable like some would like to believe otherwise he would be rated 1st in the entire nation instead of honorable. mention for the South. Just saying, but still, a great wrestler.

I agree, But give the guy his props he's a monster.

Courtney his senior year against Thueneman his senior year; Courtney wins 9 out of 10 times, majors him 4 times, Decision once, Tech Fall once, Pins him twice wins in OT one time, and loses in OT one time.

no way.

yes way.

I have to agree with 385.  2 years ago it was a toss up match.  But if you magically hold Thueneman constant and give Courtney 2 years to progress, I think the breakdown is pretty close.

well what year did thunamen start wrestling? was it before highschool? maybe they had the same experience level when courtney was a sophmore, so giving him two more years is a little unfair. that would be like comparing a freshman who had been wrestling since sixth grade to a senior who started his freshman year, and saying the freshman would win in three years. although they might have started in the same grade, so this statement might be void. anyone know?

But you still have the physical differences.  A senior is just a much more mature, stronger, and smarter wrestler (than the same guy was when he was a sophomore).

Why must there be so much animosity toward a kid that has worked his tail off who came from the womb with headgear on!  This is the kids Senior yr, he's class act, team leader and would teach ANY wrestler out there a thing or two.  Let's let him take it to the mat and prove himself.  So far he has shown us over and over, when you look at that score board and see the BIG L for him, then lets critique his every move.  Not now!  No one has touched his technique, his ability or for that matter his character......So for what its worth, a best technician, I think he's up there!

What about Yenter of CC. The kid is only about 85-90 pounds. And I've only seen him get beat a couple of times. His technique is what wins his matches. Hes not as strong as the other 103's.

Alright when I start up a topic how about nobody bashes any wrestlers.

This is for fun and you all take this way to serious.

Does it really matter who would when when between Courtney and Theuman?

Neither of the wrestlers should be talked about in a negative way because they both worked hard to achieve their level of success. Lets get on with the topic!

My real vote is Fahy.

Certainly. Courtney is good, very good. But not untouchable like some would like to believe otherwise he would be rated 1st in the entire nation instead of honorable. mention for the South. Just saying, but still, a great wrestler.

That is 100% true, but in the state of Kentucky, Harrison has shown that he is unbeatable since his sophmore year. You can say what you want about the refs during his matches but his numbers are set in stone.

Yeah I was just saying that  he can be beaten . I don't know for sure becaus I haven't wrestled him but some wrestlers could have closer matches with him of they didn't lose the match up in their head before the real match ever started

half the battle of wrestling is mental, if not more than half.

I agree he can be beaten, don't get me wrong.  But saying that some could keep it closer than they have is probably wrong.  I don't know if you've ever wrestled him but he is like a blanket on top, he seems to have glue on the entire front side of his body.  If he wants to win on the college level he needs to improve on his feet and get stronger but on top I don't think I've seen another high school wrestler as good as him, ever.
