minimum weight rules?

Topic ID: 4858 | 20 Posts

what are they going to do about the kids who planned on dropping a weightclass at state duals or any tournament this weekend but now didn't get to weigh in?

are those kids just stuck at their previous weight class?

I'm new and told ranger could help with this question

Julian Tackett sent an email yesterday to all coaches and ADs, making sure everyone understands the rule.  If a wrestler needed a weigh-in this weekend in order to drop a weight class, they are out of luck.  The KHSAA will not accept any weigh-ins unless in conjunction with a match or tournament.  If your match/weigh-in was cancelled, and if you needed the weigh-in to certify at the lower weight, you are stuck at the higher class - no exceptions.

ok thanks

Just curious to see but who all got stuck at the higher weight???

tyler hooker a first yr wrestler who is a senior at henry clay is stuck at 171 and was going to qualify for 160 at state duals. dunbars heavyweight is in the same situation i think

Is Andy Lenz stuck at 119 now or did Harrison County have a meet that was not cancelled?

If lenz had already made 112/114 at an official weigh in he can continue to lose according to his weight descent plan.  If any one had not made a weight they no longer can drop to a lower weight class.

Lenz is fine.  His last weigh in was within his plan so he is good to go.  He is officially going 112 for state!

so r u saying that he has already made 114 at a weigh-in or his plan says he could have today?

If he already made weight he can continue on his weight loss plan to return to that weight.  If he had not already weighed in at 112/114 his plan stops 1-31-09.

it just kinda stinks that they aren't making an exception due to cancellation of meets.

Something my parents taught me long ago, life is NOT fair.

Remember Lenz wrestled 112 for the first half of the season, it was only after Christmas that he went up in weight.

these teams with these issues, couldnt they just quickly schedule a dual on a wednesday? wouldnt that count?

i think not man i think they need a offical toument weigh in  8-)

Lenzwent up in weight classes to wrestle zarth.  He never went up in weight.  His weigh ins all year kept him at 112.  I know their are a lot of people scrambling now.  This is the exact reason that even when lenz was wrestling 125 he would weigh in at 115.  I tried all year to get him to go 119 but he set a goal last year of 112 and he is stubborn.  Best of luck to all and I think this snow will shake things up a lot.!!!!

KHSAA RULES AND REGULATIONS

Governing Wrestling Tournaments

C) Certification into a Weight Class

1) A wrestler is certified into a particular weight class at any

regularly scheduled match or tournament any time on or prior to

the Saturday of NFHS week 30 by making base weight (including

growth allowance after December 25) at an official weigh-in on

a certifi ed scale as long as that certified weight is not below the

documented minimum weight and is at a time allowed by the

minimum weight calculations. A wrestler weighing in on or prior

to the Saturday of NFHS week 30 is continually certifying at the

weigh-in weight.

2) Once a wrestler is certifi ed into a particular weight class as

of the Saturday of NFHS week 30, he/she may weigh-in only

in that class and one class above. He/she is automatically recertified

into a higher weight class after the Saturday of NFHS

week 30 by weighing in and qualifying for that class, but never

into a lower weight class. After the Saturday of NFHS week 30,

making base weight (including growth) two classes above any

previously certifi ed weight class automatically renders that

wrestler ineligible for the remainder of the year to wrestle in the

lower weight class (previous certified weight).

3) Please note that this rule is for weigh-ins, not matches. It is

possible that a wrestler weighed in at a certain class weight

for a match, but wrestled up during that match. That weigh-in

would count for the lower, weigh-in class.

cut off date was 1-31-09.

oh ok, i thought they just had to make the lowest weight before the regional tournament.

woah, Does anyone know if Supe has made 119 yet. That would be such a stacked weight class for region 6. Than again region 6 is the toughest region in state.  :-D
