I thought the tournament was the smoothest best run tournament that I went to in the state of KY all Year! Good job by the people who put it on and ran it!! One piece of constructive critisism though.... I hate that 5 match bull crap that dosent allow a kid who wrestles his way back out of for third and has 5 matches in to even wrestle for third. Lets figure something else out. An exemption so that kids can wrestle a sixth match if need be or weigh in and wrestle one round on Friday so that this dosent come in to play...Just a suggestion. Anyone have any other ideas?
clubs sure do count........and trinity won by land slide! but every kid on trinty's team that won a match will be attending trinty hs next year except brent hitchings and thats only bc he is 6th grader he will go to trinty when he is in hs. so they really could have been a school team!

ALSO THANK YOU TO CENTRAL HARDING FOR HOSTING A SMOOTH TOURNAMENT AND WHAT GREAT LOOKING METAL THE KIDS GOT! REALLY TOP NOTCH!
In the Club Division it was Trinity, Conner, John Hardin. Larue won the Team division. Over all with the two divisions combined Trinity was 1st, Conner 2nd Larue 3rd.
congrats to erin mcally(trinity)for winning state back-to-back. would of really wish to see him and byrd wrestle. Byrd didnt make wait.

Thanks to all who helped put on the m.s. state tournament...I think the tournament was a huge success, and another year of some great competition. The results will be posted this evening to the official m.s. website, www.kyswa.org. At this point, there is some controversy about the final school team scores...it looks like the software that runs the brackets has some sort of bug. The final school team standings should have been:
1) Larue
2) McCreary
3) Johnson County
They will be double checked by hand some time today and will be posted to the website this evening.
I bet all the dudes in the 96# weight class were happy when they found out Zach Byrd was over weight by 1 lb. I am sure things would have been different had he made weight. He has beaten McCauley handily more then once this season and Jude would have been a dead man had he faced Byrd in the finals. You 96er's got so lucky - kiss your medals tonight in honor of The Byrd!
Making weight is part of the sport....McCauley was on fire at state, not sure "The Byrd" would have beaten him this time around mom.

Wow Jude would have been a dead man. What a ridiculous and arrogant remark because if my memory serves me correct JJ Jude(a 6th grader) is 3-2 against "The Bird" who's a 7th grader. Maybe he will show some self discipline next year and come in at the correct weight when he makes it to state next year.
I AM POSITIVE THAT ZACK BYRD'S MOTHER WOULD NEVER POST SUCH A RUDE REPLY. I AGREE THAT MCCAULEY WAS RIGHT ON THE MONEY SATURDAY. IT WAS A WELL DESERVED WIN. CONGRATS TO HIM AND ALL OF THE TRINITY WRESTLERS
sorry about the jab at Byrd's mom then....i know he seems like a nice kid, so i'm sure his mom's a good lady too. that comment from "crossface_gal" just reminded me of a lot of mom's in the past who go up to a wrestler that just whooped their son and said "my son's a better wrestler than you are, you shouldn't have won". that's pretty lame. i watched that 96 lbs finals, and i've never been all that impressed with McCauley until then....he looked VERY sharp...i always thought last year he was a tadbit lucky....but not anymore. he's a good wrestler for sure in my opinion!
yes, Byrd is a 7th grader....he really seemed to like the new medals this year, and i heard him saying "he had a pretty good shot of earning a medal this year if he had made weight....", that's a bit of an understatement. ;-) i'd have to agree with that, he's an excellent wrestler and probably would have won it....but not 100% guaranteed. good luck to him next year.
Wow grapplers, didn't mean to come off so arrogant before or to start such a fuss. I am not Zach Byrd's mother, just an informed and observant fan. You are correct, McCauley was on fire and earned his medal. I just know that if Byrd & Jude had met at the State t., Byrd had a STRONG desire and determination to avenge his regionals loss. Let's not pick on supportive mother's, none of you would be wrestling without them.
What an upset.Logsdon Had it going this year until he got to that Brice Alexander kid, "He was tuff,to strong for me to hang on to him, I thought i could hold him for that last minute but i couldn't, ohh well though i can come back in high school next year and wrestle him again, he wont get me next time" Thats what Logsdon said when i asked him about his match. I sure can't wait to see him in high school.
Logsdon is a humble and very likeable kid. He gave all he had. He actually out wrestled Alexander other then being caught with the head lock twice. Logsdon will be a nice addition to Woodfords technical team at the high school level next year. All the luck to Logsdon (Well, not all the luck, but....)

Just because Byrd had a STRONG desire and determination to avenge his regionals loss doesn't mean he would win. Don't you think J.J. Jude wanted to win too? Just because Byrd wanted to win bad doesn't mean J.J. Jude would just lose. Everybody wants to win.
