Best classes -- 130 through 171. Certain matches are going to be awesome: Norbury-Ervin; Davis-Shotwell

160 and up are my fav

HWT

i think you might have a little bit of bias there BiggieD

no offense to the big guys, but imo, hwt is almost always the most boring weight class. its very slow and very low scoring. its way too easy to stall and too easy to have fluke matches because its almost always throws and its easy to have a wrestler just get stuck. nothing happens on the mat because most hwts cant carry two of themselves and they just lay flat. too many hwts try to rely on their strength and usually aren't in solid stances. but that's just my opinion.

i am a little bias, some people dont understand how much technique is actually involved in those low scoring matches. and also isnt "sticking" your opponent kind of the point in wrestling, thats probably why a pin scores the most team points.  my matches were always exciting to watch in a lot of peoples opinions. "almost always throws", are you kidding me? sorry if you think throws are boring

I have always been a fan of the 140 weight class.  Looks to be pretty solid this year as well.

no technique is used just about every heavyweight in ky is fat and slow sorry but its the truth

i would say 125 was the most enjoyable last year there were so many fast and strong guys it was awesome

its not that throws are boring, but only throws? makes matches really predicatable, kind of takes away the impact of a perfectly executed lat drop to the number one guy in the state, by the number three...you know? if you know its coming, its not nearly as exciting. you can almost predict the outcome of any hwt match, before it even happens. and i dont mean the winner by any means, thats probably the best part about hwt though. it is way less predictable than any other weight class, just because of the sheer size, as mentioned before.

also 125 and 119 are shaping up to be strong weights again this year, cant wait to see where everyone ends up at region.

lets just put it this way tc has pinned hc has pinned tc has pinned wc has pinned hc has pinned wc you get the picture no technique sorry but true everyone is pinning everyone.

lol well put...i liked that one..

by the way 125 is looking great the skill level of the top 10 guys is so close that there are great matches at every tournament just like last year

112 isn't the most talented wt. class, but it will be fun to see how it shakes out.

With out a doubt 160 is the best weight class to watch!!! 8-)

To both extremes of the mass spectrum, I've always said:

To heavys; A little technique will take you a long way in this sport.

To lightweights; A little strength will take you a long way in this sport.

To everyone in between; You're gonna need both. Superior conditioning will take you a long way this sport.

i like the lower weights, 103-125, thats where you get the scrappy matches, a lot of funk, a lot of action.

What a great analysis. Makes perfect sense.

Yes, I agree, and that's why I like the weights in the middle, where you have to bring it every time. Every once in awhile you see someone who's fun to watch in those weights at the end. Last year Anthony Bailey was a monster. I just loved how he dominated a match -- had strength, technique, and even speed.

What he said!!

I like 103-160.

i think 160-215 is best, you have a mix of the speed of the lightweight and the strength of the heavyweight

Last year it was 125 and 135 hands down.

This year though its probably 140.. Its pretty stacked

wow you all lets lay off the heavyweights! Not all of us are fat and slow....

my favorite is 119 to 171 with the exception of a few big guys and a few little guys

okay jordan whiting isnt

i dont think that that is the reply tc285 was hoping to get, i think he wanted his name mentioned

just accept the fact that ur fat nathan...

i like 103-125 just because of all the action that can occur in a short amount of time

haha na i wasnt lookin for my name. i just dont like people talkin bad about my weight class!

HWT isnt always boring.. i find it pretty exciting when i see a 275LB guy getting picked up and slammed onto the mat. this doesnt happen very often but when it does it always gets me fired up.

i agree the premier (usually are in shape and not extremely fat) heavy's are fun and more exciting to watch on occasion then any other weight class

AMEN!!  i know in a lot of peoples opinions the best state finals match they ever saw was at heavyweight in '01. the final score was like 18-13 or something crazy.  i was there, it was definately the most exciting match i ever seen

Mike Clark vs. Bryan Hall was an exciting match at state back when woodford won with like 5 state champs. Bryan Hall had like 10 seconds left and hit a sweet blast double on Clark, who was the returning state champ from trinity, and got the win to go to the finals.

Every once in a blue moon, KY will have a few 285's that are technical and fit, but for the most part, this is not the case. Take any top 6 ranked wrestler from 103-189, if these same wrestlers could weight 275 but keep their proportions, they would win state in almost every instance.

I have to agree that last year's 125 group was great fun to watch. I like 103-140, anything higher depends on the wrestlers

some of the 189's who are both strong and fast are fun to watch because they can get through to you in a flash, or go for a power move

i like to watch 103-125 cause of all the scrambes...HVT doesnt really have alot of scrambles

i like to watch the seatbelt position with some of the lighter weights as well

I agree, scrambles are way more common and easier to force at the light weight. You tend to see a lot more movement in them too, probably because 103-125's usually don't try to muscle each other over.

i agree with this. 103-125 is the best to watch in my opinion

HWT = Who ever lands on their opponent first.

HWT = Who ever lands on their opponent first.

huhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh HATERS lol

I think the middle weights are the best to watch.  The majority of high school kids are middle weights to begin with and that makes for some deep classes.  I enjoy watching the small guys but it seems like there is always a stud or two that are a lot better than everyone else.  The upper weights depend to much on strength opposed to technique.

The margin for error is just too small with 275 pounds on you. ergo they take less risk and people precieve that as "boring". It is just different, that's all. There are plenty of defensive stalling types in the lower weights too. I think you saw that in the Fahy/Paden match.

100% agree, Old 140. In the middle weights, you'd better know what you're doing, and it doesn't always matter if you have a lot of strength if you know the moves.

I think 119,125,135,140,152,160 is the toughest

119,125,135 is usually speed with muscle.

140,152,160 is usually pure muscle with some speed but not as much as the lower weight classes

125.

hands down.

125 is almost always the most balanced weight class in terms of strength to technique. Last year our 130 had a winning record with no technique to speak of. Technique is still more important up to 160 then it switches over to strength. And once you reach 215 and Heavy one single move can change an entire match, like a random head and arm

seems to me im in the best weight to watch  :-D

haha yea alot of the 125 matches are exciting i know i am bias to the subject but i still think alot of heavyweights matches are fun 2 watch depends on how good the wrestlers are

and that goes 4 any weight class. its not fun 2 watch 2 crappy 125s

but it is fun to sit on the sidelines and make fun of the crappy 125s  :-D

i think each weight class has its advantages as to watching and it all depends wat u wana see.

if u wana see fast scrappy matches watch lower weights

if u wana see power struggles with a small magrin 4 error watch heavys

seems to me im in the best weight to watch  :-D

But you loose, so its no fun. Better not come up here to these nothern ky boys, Supe tore you up.  :-D

But you loose, so its no fun. Better not come up here to these nothern ky boys, Supe tore you up.  :-D

no need for that.

yeah mortal, supe was two of my 7 losses this year, out of 50 matches, what about you? how many did you lose?

there is absolutely no reason to shut someone down just because they lost. and losing only 7 matches in a season is probably better than what most of you can say. so how about everyone just choses someone else to talk crap about. someone who isn't better than you.

thanks.

if there wasn't so much smack talk there would be no reason to shut people down :-D

Haha ur so funny kentucky10!

Haha ur so funny kentucky10!

who are you?

I'd have to say the most exciting weight class this year was 135 especially at the state tournament.

Most Competitive...yes..not mot exciting..

I think at this year's tournament 125 was most exciting. I agree that 135 was most competitive. As for the most exciting in general, I'd have to go with 145. It's smack dab in the middle. More people who wrestle at that weight are at their natural weight. You have to rely on good technique and strength and almost never come up against somebody who doesn't know anything.
