What does everyone think it was?
MOST EXCITING MATCH AT STATE
Topic ID: 5065 | 119 Posts
Well, I'll say two -- Justin Davis and Isaac Thomas and Matt Zarth and Michael Osborne. So what do you think -- did Zarth deserve the win? And can people finally admit that Davis is the real deal?
Zarth and Osbourne for sure. Came down to the last few tenths of a second and should've gone to overtime in my opinion...
Davis is the real deal but Johnson v L. Ervin was most exciting for me. Whiting v Christian Co. Had a very exciting not mention unexpected ending as well.
Harlow vs christian co.
josh johnson and luke ervin
people were saying that zarths takedown was questinable but he had a definitive takedown earlier in the match that was not awarded, if they had awarded the earlier one and not the later one the result would have been the same

That is very true Forever Querless. Haha. Yeah for a second i thought Zarth was gonna lose.
Whatever Chad Johnson.
Have you done your daily smiting yet?
I thought the best match of the day was JJ juse against Dusty Brown in the semis, that should of been the finals match
Whatever Chad Johnson.
Have you done your daily smiting yet?
Haha
CC name is Croney. He's pinned Whiting before so we had faith he could do it. Although there was a time where I had doubt. We went nuts though. I give it to Whiting he was a class act about it, most wrestlers esp. if they were ranked number one would have stormed off the mat to throw their head gear at something.
ervin vs. johnson was by far the most exciting match along with zarth vs osborne
both of which came down to the final 2 seconds to decide
great wrestling by both
I think Matt Slone and Luke Ervin was a very exciting match
i thought the semis were better then the finals.
johnson and whitning both getting upset. finals i dont think there was that many upsets

johnson and whitning both getting upset. finals i dont think there was that many upsets
You're right. Once it was down to the final two, the favored guy won all of them. No upset like Travis Sullivan's from last year. No Cinderella like Dakota Choate. Closest possibility was Zarth, but he pulled it out.
I think Matt Slone and Luke Ervin was a very exciting match
it was a good match, but matt deserved, he got cheated out of back points and on a take down, but ervin pulled it out in the end, cant take away from that.
no one can say that ervin was a fluke because he didnt just throw him in the last seconds he just wrestled better than him great match
almost all of trey of woodfrod countys matches almost all of his wins were in overtime
Yeah at least 2 overtimes in every match he wrestled on saturday. And he won all of those overtime matches
wat did Gentry end up placing? or did he?
wat did Gentry end up placing? or did he?
4th
He lost to Jordan Whiting, when they wrestled for 3rd.
johnson and ervin and jj jude and dusty brown i think it should have been them in the finals
I was so happy when Dusty won. He's deserved it.johnson and ervin and jj jude and dusty brown i think it should have been them in the finals
almost all of trey of woodfrod countys matches almost all of his wins were in overtime
Yeah I told Trey that he needs to tell the ref to just start all his matches in OT lol.
people were saying that zarths takedown was questinable but he had a definitive takedown earlier in the match that was not awarded, if they had awarded the earlier one and not the later one the result would have been the same
I totally agree that the refs missed that call early in the match, but to say that the result would've been the same seems kind of silly to me. Obviously it would be impossible to know really, but I definitely think an early score would've changed the way the rest of that match played out. And I don't think the call on that last takedown was necessarily a bad one, just looked like it could've probably gone either way from where I was sitting. But it sure does stink when the call isn't made in favor of the guy you're pulling for. I may be totally bias, but I don't see how anyone could've watched that match and not thought that Osbourne was the better wrestler on that night. Best finals match for sure!
I was so happy when Dusty won. He's deserved it.
Now he has nothing better to do than to call you at 3 a.m. and ask you what you're watching on tv! I bet your stoked lol!
hahah yeah
hey you watching scrubs
most people didnt see it but cody guiler and justin davis was a great match, very close guiler took davis down munltiple times.
Zarth and Osbourne for sure. Came down to the last few tenths of a second and should've gone to overtime in my opinion...
Irvin and Johnson simifinal was just as intense as Zarth and Osbourne
oh yeah by far i think more exciting then zarth osborne
It's really too bad the Ervine vs. Johnson match wasn't under the lights.
Ervin and Johnson met in the quarters Lampe and Ervin were in the semis.
Luke Ervin had a tough Draw!
Luke Ervin had a tough Draw!
your right excuse my mistake.
I think the finals for HW werent very exciting, but would have been had it been Whiting instead of Croney. I just feel like they would have been more equal
I think the finals for HW werent very exciting, but would have been had it been Whiting instead of Croney. I just feel like they would have been more equal
yes exactly what i was thinking, the HW match was such a one sided high scoring match, and thats never exciting because its just one big guy turning another big guy. Had it been Whiting and Croney i think it would have resembled the awsome Anthony Baily vs. Matt Byrd HW finals match.
ANTHONY BAILEY WAS A MONSTER!
yes a very beastly monsterANTHONY BAILEY WAS A MONSTER!
yes a very beastly monster
I would of liked to see him and Jordan Whiting wrestle last year in the finals. Since their both huge.

soory u did get to see that Whitting got beat out , I guess the better wrestlers won out. well wrestler, and Harlows just a Junior..
ya that would of been awsome
That would of been a nice finals match last year. How long has Jordan Whiting been wrestling? Since his 8th grade year or freshman year?

I don't about that. Bailey vs Byrd was one of the best matches I think I've ever seen, just because it was for all the chips, and Matt Byrd was untouchable that whole year, and Bailey almost beat him. Possibly the best heavyweight match in Kentucky history?
what grade cody guiler in?most people didnt see it but cody guiler and justin davis was a great match, very close guiler took davis down munltiple times.
hes a senior, he is graduating.
what was the score of the match?most people didnt see it but cody guiler and justin davis was a great match, very close guiler took davis down munltiple times.
i know for a while guiler was winning, but before the pin the score was 9-14 davis was winning. the match was really close but davis never slowed down and it started to show during the third period.

bailey byrd whiting tripple threat
and i dont thing whiting could hang with either
bailey byrd whiting tripple threat

i dont think he would have got beat down or teched or anything like that but i also dont think he would have beat either one.
yeah he looks fast but the other two really are fat and they have a little bit of weight on him too
i dont think he would have got beat down or teched or anything like that but i also dont think he would have beat either one.
I agree. Nobody was gonna touch Bailey last year, and he was a much bigger guy. I walked by him near the concession area last year, and I was scared. He was like Sasquatch.

here we go again, getting off topic, and talking trash to one another.
cant we all just get along?!
=/
In the finals I think it was the zarth-osborne cause of the non-stop action for the whole 6 minutes. So many close scoring chances for the oz but still zarth strength was able to hold on. One of the most intense could have been the one between two guys i believe was 215? one would get hurt then the other. Also Brown-Jude match was very good.

i didnt get 2 see the brown vs jude match but i saw jude after and he kept on saying "he kept staling" did any1 see the match?
Davis Shotwell match was exciting to anticipate but not as exciting to watch because it was clear Davis was going to win.
Zarth Osbourne final was probably the best of the finals.
That Woodford heavy, Gentry, was it? had exciting matches because so many of them went into overtime.
Johnson Irvin match was an upset and close.
i didnt get 2 see the brown vs jude match but i saw jude after and he kept on saying "he kept staling" did any1 see the match?
I saw the match and with any of the other officials at the state tournament IMO Brown would have been hit with stalling more than once. 1 hell of a match in the semifinals.

I agree, Jude kept pushing and was making the offensive moves through out the whole match.

wow so does anyone think jude should have been in the finlas instead of dusty and if he was what would have been he outcome?

Don't make us guess. Who was the ref?

i have to say gentry is the most boring wrestler to ever wrestle that i have seen. every match he wrestled would go into triple over time. he pretty much does nothing for 6 minutes and then tries to win it in overtime. very very boring
i have to say gentry is the most boring wrestler to ever wrestle that i have seen. every match he wrestled would go into triple over time. he pretty much does nothing for 6 minutes and then tries to win it in overtime. very very boring
if thats what it took for him to place 4th then it was worth the boringness and i think aLL his matches were exciting because it always came down to the last 20 seconds

lol i get what both of u guys are saying but it was kind of like u knew they were going to go into overtime un less he lost
yea im not trying to take anything away from him. i just thought he was boring. but then again i think all HWT are boring so maybe just the fact that he is a heavy weight that would wrestle for 8 minutes at a time just made it even worse for me idk.
if thats what it took for him to place 4th then it was worth the boringness and i think aLL his matches were exciting because it always came down to the last 20 seconds
like all of his matches were like 3-1 or something like that. i assume that would be VERY boring. one has to wonder how stalling wasn't called?
if thats what it took for him to place 4th then it was worth the boringness and i think aLL his matches were exciting because it always came down to the last 20 seconds
its just too bad it had to take ten mins, just to get to the last 20 seconds. maybe all his matches should have just started in the triple overtime :-D
like all of his matches were like 3-1 or something like that. i assume that would be VERY boring. one has to wonder how stalling wasn't called?
yea i agree. there was one match that he was hit for stalling, and then he actually wrestled after that point.
like all of his matches were like 3-1 or something like that. i assume that would be VERY boring. one has to wonder how stalling wasn't called?
osbourne and zarth match was 4-2 no stalling called there are lots of low scoring matches that have alot of action in them
my favorite was brown-jude in the semi's.
ya that was a pretty good one jude almost pulled it out but brown proved dominatemy favorite was brown-jude in the semi's.
i like the court mace robert robey match up for 7 and 8 at 152
i really liked the terry vs kraziewics match it was fun to watch
dont remind of that match lol. i was winning by 3 points with like 30 seconds to go and court scored 4 points on me. good move on court mace' part thoughi like the court mace robert robey match up for 7 and 8 at 152
osbourne and zarth match was 4-2 no stalling called there are lots of low scoring matches that have alot of action in them
actually zarth got hit for stalling once. he was way to much on the defensive if you ask me, and that is why he got hit...too many sprawls with no reshots.

yeah but when it's heavyweights, they very rarely take shots and push the action.

i agree he was really defensive. i think he could have won by a pretty good margin if he would have wrestled more offensive.
to be honest jack, i think he wrestled a little scared. not saying he was scared, but he seemed like he was. i think he was worried that the match could go either way, and he didnt want to mess up the chance to be a three timer. let alone the chance to be the only three time state champion from a lexington school. although as i said, i could be wrong.
No doubt matt looked a little timid, but I never felt he wasn't in full control of the match. He rarely puts himself in bad positions, which is key to being successful on the next level.
i wouldnt say he was scared but he had a lot of pressure on him and i think he just wrestled a little more smart and carful. the way he wrestled ozzy the second time was much more entertaining and a pretty dominante match
Exciting matches: Houchens vs Lewis, both times. High energy.

Controversy too. We know you like that OW.
Controversy too. We know you like that OW.
How was it controversial?
How was it controversial?
well considering that houchens was about to stick lewis and he got off his back do to a potentially dangerous call that was pretty questionable i would call it controversial

That was their first match match at state and Ryan had not turned Lewis to NF criteria, yet received 2 points. Same thing happened with the roles reversed in their placing match except that Lewis had NF criteria and was awarded the same 2 points.
Several stopages in both matches for injuries from both wrestlers.
Very exciting stuff.
in those situations eminent near fall can be awarded in a potentially dangerous situation or an illegal hold if the points would have happened if not for the move then you can award the points.
if no count you can award 2 points for potentially dangerous and 3 for illegal (2 backs+1 illegal hold)
if a 2 count has happened you can award 3 for PD and 4 for illegal ( 3 bakcs+1 illegal hold)
thats why those points were awarded the way they were
kevin cooper vs zarth
Does anybody got the whole match of Zarth vs. Osbourne besides ihigh because they only got like lest than a minute of it
what about fahy's first match when he got hit by a chair and put through a table and the kid hit a five star frog splash and about pinned him??

and during the match dusty stengel was playing a fight song riff on his guitar
My personal favorite match was Davis/ Shotwell. I expected Davis to dominate, and he delivered.
You kill me with that and tony tinnell walked out there with his stomach sucked in so he would look big and stockyand during the match dusty stengel was playing a fight song riff on his guitar
