Harrison Courtney - Standing Ovation!

Topic ID: 5068 | 52 Posts

I just wanted to compliment Harrison Courtney on a tremendous accomplishment of winning 4 State Championships!

He has maintained his level of wrestling excellence while showing composure and class along the way!

I was expecting the crowd at state to put their bias aside and provide him a standing ovation. It would have been a great way to acknowledge their appreciation of his accomplishment.

Congrats to Harrison, the Courtney Family and to Woodford County for a class act!

I certainly did.

I saw many fans stand for Harrison both after he won his match and again after he received his award on the podium and they weren't just Woodford fan.  I agree a great kid, family support and a class act.  :-D

I'd expect everyone will wish him well whatever he chooses.  :-D

Remember, the school/Div Harrison choose doesn't reflect his ability, "My opinion" some just want to see him go to D1 to justify or compare how good he was. :?

He's a winner in my book, if he wrestle another match or not.

I agree that Harrison Courtney represents all that is best about his sport. He'll be missed.

The Lexington Herald Leader ran an article about the state tourny today with a picture of Harrison Courtney on the front of the sports page in the top right corner and a 1/4 page pic of Zarth bleeding and 1/4 page summary of the Lexington area wrestlers

Harrison Courtney is an outstanding young man! 4 state championships and a bright future ahead. I can't remember ever seeing him wrestle a match that I had to wonder if he would win! I'm sure everyone that has watched him wrestle over the years was standing last night when be became a 4 timer! Congrats to Harrison!

hell, i was in missouri and gave him a standing ovation. Whats wrong with everybody? that man did something that few in the nation have ever done, bias or not. Great job Harrison!!!

Everyone around me was standing.

Personally I'm nota woodfordnfan but you have to give Harrison at least a little love and a ton of resect I think the reason we hate woodford is because of how good they usually are. I mean this was the first time in twenty years that they didn't finish in the top three

No two ways about it. Harrison is a class act. I spoke to the reporter from the Woodford Sun (weekly paper in Versailles). He said that Harrison is really hard to interview because he keeps trying to give credit to others, and doesn't like to talk about himself.

It's nice to see people who don't want to take all the credit for something and blame everything on other people I know that I personally struggle with not blaming other people for things.

Good for Cortney

i agree because he was not that cocky of a guy eveb though i think he knew he was going to win but he did amazing all 4 years he won and is a great wrestler i hope he goes to college and does something big

ill be the first to say something negative. courtney was rather boring to watch this year in my opinion. it seemed like this year he was trying to just do enough to get by, where as in the past he has tried to just dominate his opponents. does anyone else feel the same?

well i think he didnt cut weight at all this year so maybe the size just slowed his gangster down a lil bit

i mean he did bump up 2 weight classes where ass before he was kinda large for a 45

yeah i hear he didnt cut much weight, and that may of had something to do with it.

He told me after practice one day last week he weighed like 153-4 and he wasn't even trying to lose weight.  Just like in years past where he went back down to 145 for the team he went up a weight this year for the same reason.  He wrestled the same as he always has just some were stronger this year.

thats what i figured

I was standing, kids a great wrestler and a class act.  His coaches and most of all parents should be very proud.

I know I wish he would have cut to 152!!  :-D :-D

Him and his family are great people, total class act.  I expected a little more hoopla after he won in the finals as well.  Was surprised there wasn't an anouncement made following emphasizing a 4-time champ or something like that.

Good luck to you Harrison in whatever you do after high school wrestling.

does anyone else feel your lame? win for state titles and tell us how YOU went about doing it.

i guess you are the #1fan of harrisons nutsack? i give him props he is a great wrestler, it just shocked me he wasnt as dominate this year as he has been...calm down.

speaking for myself im not a big woodford county fan at all....but you have to give congrats were congrats are due and Harrison Courtney deserves his congrats on a four timer.....just to be a varsity high school wrestler takes alot of time and work to get better, win matches and stay healthy, but to be a 6 time state placer and a four time state champ takes alot of hours on the mat, year round training, blood, sweat, tears, and the whole school part of it as well....and i think he deserves everything  he gets and i hope to see him wrestle in college...if he sticks with it in college then i think he will do amazing things in the years to come....congrats and good luck in the future of wrestling. :-)

After you place in state, then you might begin to have grounds to down talk a 4 timer.

Lets keep the action coming!  :-D

you dont have to place in state to realize that courtney didnt dominate the state this year, as he has in past years. and its not even like its all that negative, as someone pointed out he pretty much bumped up two weight classes. to bump up two weghts and still win state is very impressive in itself. i agree courtney has worked hard and deserves what he has gotten, no need to get defensive and try to rip my head off over the internet.

Zero losses in the state of Ky the last two years.  Dominance.  Nuff said!

Cool it guys, tc125's shoulder hurts, can't you see that.

Kidding.....kind of.

I don't think tc125 is criticizing Courtney as much as you'll think, just pointing out a true fact.  However there is a reason behind his "less dominating performance" this year which I have already pointed out.  I applaud Courtney for his sacrifice to his team this year and in years past.  Come to think of it this is his third year where he has wrestled in a weight class other than his natural weight for the good of the team.  Who else can you think of that has done this, let alone a four-time champ who could have wrestled whatever weight he wanted if he was selfish?  I'd venture to say that Courtney is a better person than he is a wrestler, and that's saying something.  Good luck Harrison with your college career and whatever else you choose to do in life.

whats his natural weight

I saw him bump up to 171 during a couple of dual meets as well this year. That's pretty impressive as well.

thank you jpizar, for realizing i wasnt bashing him by any means, just stating that i expected him to dominate even more this year, than he has before. i guess the reason he did, was because he bumped up in weight.

i agree he was a s dominate but there was never any doubt he wasnt gunna win a match he was in control in every match he had

he just didnt make the kids look like they had never wrestled before like he used to

I was quite surprised as well that there was no special recognition of a 4-timer.  At least a curtain call and let the crowd show their appreciation for his efforts over the last 6 years.  I'll also say I have been impressed with Harrison's attitude and demeanor over the years.  Whether you are a Woodford fan or not (and I admit that I'm not), you have to agree that Harrison is a class act.  I took my 5 year old down to the floor after the finals and took him over to meet Harrison and congratulate him.  The classy young man took a few minutes to talk to an excited young boy.  He gets my vote as the best ever to come through this state.

he really is a good guy not a prick like some recent state champions from woodford

His poise through the finals match impressed me. He has down at one point i believe and he didn't panic like Sullivan. He just kept wrestling the whole match. I agree he has kept his composure so well over the years, as did Zarth btw. They both just kept wrestling and just like true champions they prevailed through obstacles. Congrats to Harrison and good luck in the future. He has my vote as one of the best to ever come through KY, Woodford boy or not.

He is a very close second to Harrison when it comes to a classy hard working kid. I always enjoyed watching him wrestle.

I agree Zarth is very classy as well.

Yeah they both are good guys.

does anyone know what scholarships he got, any big schools or anything

I felt like the KHSAA should have had a special recognition of the achievement. And i have to admit that i am woodford fan for the reasons that most of you are not.

I've been saying this for quite some time now! Now all that is left is for Harrison to win senior nationals, then a national championship in college! Just kidding, lets let the kid enjoy his success.

That would have been very cool.  They do an ok job of recognizing coaches (they could still do better I think), but the KHSAA dropped the ball on Courtney.  I'm sure he doesn't care though.  It might be a long time before we see another 4-timer.

...wait a second, i just said a long time for another 4-timer...without thinking about Fahy or Cooper.  I think both of these kids have a shot.  Fahy I even expect if from him.  Cooper will make a great run of it...but we'll see.

He received it last year as the MOW. A 4x is an awesome accomplishment but pales in comparison to a men who have dedicated over 80 years advancing Kentucky wrestling.
