lets hear it go theres alot i think top two will be ervins and carrs but what are some others and some of your thoughts coaches and wrestlers and hot girls
best wrestling family

Ervins!! the girls are smoking hottttttttt, and all 1,192 boys they have are great at wrestling.
you two are seriously losers
i was trying to serious about the family thing the hot girls was just a bit of humor maybe i should have saved that for the general discussion board
Gotta love those Merrits from Hoptown...
Stepps from Sheldon Clark.
one that i would look out for is the goffs from seneca the little brothers only in seventh grade? and kary did great in only his first year
I honestly think the coopers from SK are better than the ervins.
you're crazy. 10 state championships split between 8 people and caleb is just a sophomore and Brock will be the best. Not to mention the fact that they have single handedly brought union county from the dead to a state championship team through the wrestlers and coaches that are ervins.
no doubt the coopers and the ervins are the best
easily the Ervins IMO just what they have done for Union County and all the individual titles they have won. Brock has the potential right now to be a 4 time champ if he gets big enough. A more interesting argument is to find out families for each school. I remember the only way we had a semi-full team this year was through bunches of brothers wrestling. 3 Gittings, 2 Arruguins, 2 Mannings, 2 Sahms....
You can also look at father son combinations. I'm sure the Ervins are in on this as well. I know Harrison's dad wrestled for Woodford co. I'm sure there are more out there from the schools with long established programs.
Mark Hitchings was a state champ and i bet both of his sons are and my sons will be working for titles as well plus mybrothers sons are coming back to ky from california which will make 6 lampes wrestling in the next 5 years.

I definately think this topic should be renamed to "2nd Best Wrestling Family" because we all know that the ervins are numero uno...

yup
I would say Coopers, what Ervin has done anything in college at any level? Im not hatn i just dont know and have never heard of anything past HS, I mean wrestling is dam important but getting your education and a degree is more important unless you feel fast food rest. is the way to go.

Oh boy... First. Tim Ervin was a runner up in the NCAA in college at whatever level he was at. Robert and Gary also wrestled in college. Second, the Ervin family is one of the most affluent families in the state. Owned a multi-million dollar cable business.

I didn't know they are coming back!! How far down the road until this happens. Thats great to hear!

I don't know about the Ervin's but if you start talking about college wrestling then the Carr's have it. 5 brothers all of them made All-American status (thats a record) and Joe jr being a national qualifier.
To add to my last post, I have to say I think it's pretty obvious that the Ervins are tops when it comes to high school wreslting in KY.
The Cole family still has to be considered one of the top, if not the top.
Cole family batting average: 100%
3 wrestling Coles, 3 state champs.
Todd Cole 155 champ, 145 runner-up. Todd beat up Kentucky's 1981 All American causing him to move up to 167. Todd was an animal.
Tom Cole 132 champ. Tom was in a car accident and broke his femur in half requiring surgery. He was unable to wrestle his sophomore and junior year. As a senior, he pinned through districts, regions and state.
Troy Cole. As an 8th grader he forfeited the state championship to a kid he beat twice during the year. Troy could and should have been Ky's first 8th grade state champ. 4th place as a freshman(had a belly full of eggs he had to lay, lol) State champ 138 and 145 MOW.State runner up at 155 his senior year.
Is there any other family with multiple wrestlers who have a 100% state champ average?
If you are a Cole, you are a state champ.
theres only 3 coles tho.
theres 2x that many erivins.
It's all about statistics. I know there are a million Ervins, they are all classy individuals. But do they bat a "thousand"? Only the Cole's bat a 1000.
I believe the Whalens in the 1980's had two state champs (tim and jerry). Oldham County had the Riordans (aaron and josh) in the 2000's.

10 state championships is a lot, but the coopers have 6 between four wrestlers. thats MORE THAN HALF of what the ervins have with half as many wrestlers, and kevin placed 3rd as an 8th grader, so im sure he'll add to that list as well.
im pretty sure the cars have it
there is an article on nate carr in this months
usa wrestler magazine and they tell what nate carr and his brothers (includining joe) did
it reads
"6 of the boys went on to become wrestlers.in age order the carr family wrestlers were, willie, fletcher, JOE, jimmy, jerry, nate, and solomon. of this group 5 of the boys were all-americans in college, and both jimmy and nate competed on U.S. olympic teams. jimmy made the 1972 olympic freestyle team while still in high school."
im pretty sure they win concidering they have more state title prolly then the coopers and ervins combined.
olympic silver just is a bonus :-D

There all great guys too. Except Caleb. He's just mean. lol I could picture him always picking on Isaac lol Oh I've also heard some stories from Brock about the four Ervin bros Patrick, Max, Mitch, and Brock. Brock had me rollin' all through the state finals last year haha

If the Carr's wrestled in this state, this would not even be a discussion. They'd be it hands down. But from what I've read, didn't they all wrestle in Pennsylvania in H.S. with the exception of Joe Carr Jr? I know Joe Sr & maybe others wrestled in college at UK...but I don't think that counts. I'd have to go with the Ervins on this one. Even though IPEA is statistally right. The Ervins are simply amazing wrestlers to me.

The Coopers have 7 between 6 wrestlers and Josh got a staff infection the week before state his senior year and had to sit out or it would have been 8. The coopers also have cousins that don't have the last name, but they are younger, we'll have to see how they do.
Livingstom Merrit - 3X
Miguel Merrit - 2 X
Jeff Merrit - 1 X
6 split from 3 :-D
Now if we add college and the Olympics the Carr's hands down. No Ervin has done what Joe Jr did or what his uncles did or I would see there name on a list of 4x state champs and on the Olympic stage. I don't know off the top of my head what Joe Sr. did but its always easy to look it up. His brothers were Olympians, to me representing your country and coming back with a medal is one of highest awards you can get. At UK, Joe Sr was coached by one of his brothers, think Fletcher, Coach Headley also wrestled there and both won SEC titles, the team was ranked in the top ten in the U.S. and that says something. Look what he has done at Woodford, Union doesn't have half the titles they have, when you match up the number of individual champs and placers, region champs, and State titles, etc, Woodford is number one in probably every category. So yeah the Carr family is crushing everybody, their past speaks for it self.
Actually Coach Carr never won a state title in high school, I think he once told me he never even placed. That's how tough PA is considering he was a 3x AA in college, World Team alternate a couple of times, 2x USA Wrestling Freestyle National Champ, 4th in the Olympic Trials and who knows what else.
BTW Nate won a bronze medal in the 88 Olympics not a silver. I have heard, from those not in his family, that there was a very controversial call though in the semis.
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh my bad but still i think a broinze olympic medal crushes any state gold medal no matter what state its from :-D
The ERVINS! Just way to dominate for anyone to hang with.

Lol I agree, just wanted to get the facts straight. Actually USA Wrestling had an article on the best wrestling families not too long ago if I remember right. They had the Carr's at like 9th or something like that.
i think i remember that not sure though ill go back and look
Interesting
can anyone post a link to see that article?
Look for it Mr. Crave
Idiots, in our sport, the Olympics is the highest achievement that anyone can receive and representing our country. sometimes opinions made by others that don't have or READ all the facts are just humerus so please continue

OUCH!
who was that aimed for
Forever Fearless?
I also think the Goffs will be some guys to look out for. They are just naturally athletic, and that obviously helps. I mean, placing in state, first year wrestler? And his brother is starting out pretty young, so he should be able to get a feel for the sport before the pressure is on him
I was going to say the Carr's don't count because they are from PA, but maybe we should take some credit for them. Check out # 11 in this article.
I'd have to go with the Stengels:
Dusty:No appearance at state
Joey: Kicked off team for being toasted out of his mind on the bus
...Domination... :-D

I know. We ain't got no Ervin girls, but I did get shot down by one. So, that has to count for somethin'. lolfrickin' sweet... :-D

Who else has won it? I'm pretty sure it was only six titles between these four. I know there is also josh who would have won it (most likely) his senior year. Kevin I'm sure will add to the count. Who was the 7th?

I agree that Kary Goff did very well for a first year wrestler, but the fact is that he was a SENIOR, meaning he was 17 or 18 years old, wrestling at 103, which would mean that he would have a huge athletic advantage over the other 103's, who are mostly 8,9, and 10th graders. And his brother is already in 7th or 8th grade and weighs around 70 lbs. Did the little brother win or place in middle school state? Did he win or place or qualify for JV State? And i don't really think that 2 brothers makes up a full wrestling family.
i dont care if u consider 2 cousins on here as long as their related their family

I could care less about ppl likeing me. This is a site to share thoughts, oppinions etc about wrestling/wrestlers. And thats what im doing. If you dont like it, then you get off. I do love the fact though that my post's get to u.
They don't. They just make me wonder what is wrong in your head. It's sad. You must have some sort of disorder or condition that allows you to get a type of gratification from attention, whether it be good or bad. Even making people hate you is good enough for you. It's not my loss. More of a curiousity that makes me think about just how lonely or insecure you are. Stuff like that has always fascinated me.I could care less about ppl likeing me. And it fascinates me on how much i bother u. If my post's dont "bother" you. then ignore them and move on, But no instead u decide to post back. That to me seems like its getting to u.
What else would I respond to? Not only do I get to witness the extent of your, seemingly legitimate, mental disorder, but I also get to first hand be part of the act. See how deep you really think. All you say is that you think it gets to me. That seems to be the main focus of your posts. Not to truely vent any feelings or attitude toward me or my behavior. This leads me to believe that the fact that you think my life is in some way, no matter how small, affected by you, you feel either powerful or more significant than you normally do on your own. You use me/this site as a way to get your egotistical jollies. So, please. Don't stop posting. Okay. You officially proved my point. I think I should become a psychologist. I guess i'll stop replying now. You've become bland and uninventive.
