The top 14 was pretty tough but it dropped off after that.  J/K

people reaalllyyyy love to joke around with you kasey.

hmm.

wonder why that is?

but really 125 was stacked, what about 130 whenever luke metzker was there, i dont know for sure but im pretty sure it was stacked.

heck 103 lukes freshmen year was stacked too

just in region 4 there was Metzker (1) Clark (3) Upchurch (5) Chaffin (6)

Metzker won 103 and 135, never 130.  The year he won 135 it was not that deep.  He was clearly better then everyone else, Boggs gave him his toughest matches.

didnt he take 3rd at 130?

I think you are thinking of his sophmore year at 119.  That year it was stacked and he took 3rd.  You had Brad Cooper, Mark Shaver, Chris Sanders, David George.  He wrestled 135 his junior year and then 140 senior year.

yea thats what i ment. but for sure his freshmen and sophomore years were stacked

How do you read people's mind so well?  Miss Cleo in disquise?

112 in 1999:

Knable (4 timer)

Daviaux (2 timer, 3 X finalist)

Logsdon

Anthony Smith (2 x finalist, 4 time placer)

Chad Haydon (state champ in 98, placed in nationals in '99)

Neal Crawford (finalist in '00)

Josh Kenneweg (finalist in '00)

Thats 7 state titles and 12 finals appearances amongst the top 7.

Not saying its the best, but worthy of discussion.

I'm going to assume that you purposely spelled "toughest" "tuffest"?

Didnt thnk Smith made weight his Freshman Year... could be wrong.

My vote goes to 119 in 1996

Jason Talbott 2Xr  (also placed at nationals)

Conner kid ( name escapes me)  but he was one of the biggest 119's I ever saw

Chris Dunn 3Xr

Grady Petterson 2Xr

7 State Titles!!!  but there can only be 1 that year

Ill have to check, but Dean Williams Wrestled Matt Williams for 5th place that year @ either 112 or 119...  if its @ 119 than thats 8 Champions

thats a heckuva weight class, userdaddy.

Anthony Smith didnt make weight at Regions that year @ 103... Doug Sanders HHS and Jason Johnston Caldwell  wrestled in the finals

who ended up winning it that year?

I put them in order by name...

2000 103

Luke Metzker - 2x state champ 1x runner up 1 x 3rd

Billy Clark - 1x state champ 2x 3rd

Joey Hagedorn 1x state champ 1x 3rd

Doug Upchurch 1x state champ 1x 5th

Nick Chaffin 1x state champ 1x runner up 1x 6th

Billy Whitehouse 2x runner up 1x 6th

Mike Ford 1x runner up

Tony Perry 2 x runner up 1x 4th

Nathan Thomas 2x 4th

6 total state titles by 5 individuals, 12 finals appearances by 8 wrestlers.

Crawford won state his senior year beating Scott Cooper at 130.  So that makes 8 titles.

I guess I was wrestling(poorly) during the best era of little guys, because I had to wrestle Daviaux, Perry, Knable, Brian Wallace, and Tim Whitfill at some point between 99 and 2000.  Maybe I wasn't as bad as I thought, just had really stiff competition.

see i told you guys this was the most stacked, and 4 of these guys were in one region

nice catch, old140. I forgot Neal won.

112 in 99 iwas tougher than 103 in 00, imo.

yeah, there is the same amount of finals appearances, with less state titles.

well,  at 112 in 1999, one wrestler accounted for 4 of the 7 state championships.  There were really only 3 wrestlers who had state titles.  In 2000 at 103, 5 of those wrestlers were state champs.

that adds a new outlook on the whole situation.

nope there were 4, counting Crawford (I originally forgot he won but old140 reminded me).

Knable > Metsker

Daviaux > Clark, Hagedorn, or Upchurch

then you've got Anthony Smith who is one of KY's best to never win a title, any weight, any era

Haydon was a stud (placed in senior nationals in 99, something no one else did that yr not even Chris Dunn or Josh Whitaker)

103 -1993

Joe Carr-4xr

Grady Peterson-2xr

Jason Talbet-2xr

Mitch Vincent-1xr

Tony Bowen-1 Runner-up

Chris McCoy-1-Runner-up

Travis Cuvler-1-Runner-up (maybe a champ)

I believe I am missing a few Champs and Finalist from this 1993-103 pound weight class-One thing is for sure, it was stacked with nine state champions coming out of it.

you win.

Did Robbie Bodner (Valley) wrestle that year>?

you win.

Carr  Petterson  &  Talbott  where all young and not at the top of their game...  The 119 in 1996  was stacked with 3 seniors in the top 3... Dunn was a freshman...  who placed 5th & 6th that year (1996) @ 119...Was it Williams & Williams

I know Dean finished 5th that year.  It might have been his first year wrestling too....tuff weight class.

No offense, but I don't think 103 should really count in this.  A lot of good wrestlers start at 103 but the weight class at that time isn't really tuff.

i dont think we should look at a weight and then compare what the wrestlers achieved after they wrestled that weight. as stated earlier, a lot of wrestlers start somewhere, not all of them were monsters their first couple years. what about the toughest weight class ever, only counting returning placers from previous years?

I agree about 103

Yeah he beat Matt Johnson of Simon Kenton

Im sick of 103 getting hated on. Its just as much a weight class as any other... just becasue its the smallest doesn't mean peoples accomplishments at that level shouldn't count.

i agree. and the same goes for heavyweight.

2004  119 was pretty tough

Kris Perry  CC  1x

Derek Scott  2X

Ozzie Palmer LC 1X

Daniel Thuenemann  3X Placer

Kellen Ashworth  Ryle

Harrison Courtney WC 4X  all i can think of right now but still pretty tough

Ozzie Parker  sorry

i agree. and the same goes for heavyweight.

I think people hate on 103 as weight class because it is filled mostly with 8th graders and freshman, maybe everynow and then you will have some seniors and juniors there. typically a young weight class

yes pin2win i think you are right...but still i think we should try and find a weight that had the most returning placers to it, anyone up to the challenge?

I may be biased because the year that I wrestled 103 (2006/my freshman year) it was pretty much stacked.

1st - Travis Sullivan (10) Wayne County

2nd - Adam Carr (11) Union County

3rd - Shane Parks (10) Wood Co

4th - John Voth (10) Paul Dunbar

5th - Elliot Martin (10) Seneca

6th - Josh Burkett (10) Fern Creek

7th - James Badgett (10) Bullitt Central

8th - Andre Zeppa (10) North Oldham

Another thing about this is that these kids were so good that there were kids that were JV behind them that went on to place; (Jarvis Elam UNCO (4th,1st), Tommy Warren FERN (3rd)). Elliott Martin went on to win state at 103 in 07, then placed 3rd at 119 in 08 after losing in the semis to Zarth 5-2.

145 in 2006 was pretty stacked

1 Courtney 4x champ

2 Banks 2x runner up

3 Aylor 1x champ

4 Ford

5 Wilson 1x runner up

6 Ervin 2x champ

7 Barger

8 Issacs 1x runner up

There was numerous other people in the weight class that went on to place.  Very impressive for a freshman to win this weight class.

Every wrestler out of that class was just a dang bada**.  They were exciting their 10th, 11th, and 12th years.  Always fun to watch.

There were other good wrestlers that wrestled 103 that year that didn't even place that year; Dan Smith TRIN, D.C. Evans WHCO, Robbie Vaughn SK, Brandon Whitehouse SOLD, Kyle Terry CEHA.

This was a relatively stacked weight class.
