Rebel Rankings 2005/2006 - #8

Topic ID: 513 | 33 Posts

For he final rankings before the Regional Tournament I have added a few more wrestlers to each weight class. Most weights go to about 25, but some to about 30. I wanted to include as many potential state qualifiers as possible by adding the guys I have been watching in addition to the usual ranked guys. There will be others who qualify for the state tournament, but mainly in less competitive weights/regions, like those where there are only 3 or 4 kids.

I will try to post an update as early as possible next week after I have reviewed the brackets. This should give us a much better idea on the team finish as well.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!!

I know these rankings are perfect (HA!HA!HA!). But for the sake of argument, what do you think are my 3 biggest mistakes or guys/teams that will prove me wrong by next weekend?

Larue? Aylor? Wood? Hardin?

By next the picture will be set for State, these rankings look good; but rankings are nice but mean nothing till medals are hand out.

Some things I beleive will change after state:

1. Corey Spencer will beat Adam Carr (103)

2. Matt Zarth will be higher

3. Eric Bryant will win it this year

4. Beau Sanders will be top 4

5. Tony King will be lower

6. Gary Doyle will be top 3

7. Greg Ashworth will place top 5

But due to past performances/results you couldn't move these around. Great job and I look forward to your state predictions. Thanks for doing such a great job!

Bryant will be Scott you say? Have they matched up any this year???

scott is a beast !!! and will not get beat by anyone in kentucky this year at 125

gotta agree with chief! Scott is a BAD man! & i think he'll hold the title no matter what!

Exellent!! These are always (in my opinion) either close, or right on the money!!

160 the trinity kid lost to the stx kid twice at the dual and at the dragon

those rankings are pretty nice. i look forward to them next year, that is if you are going to do them?

I think that Luna would beat Coty Vinsant from wayne Co. I also believe that Fyffe should be #1. And Beau Sanders along with Blake Shehan should be much higher. Other than that i think they look real good.

Thats what I was thinkin Chief, but maybe he knew something i didn't...?

Yes, I plan to continue doing this next year. Hopefully, we'll continue to make improvements on the flow of information like we have over the last couple of months. I have talked to some coaches who plan to help out with that in the future.

legrider - I dropped Fyffe because he was far from impressive at the state duals, especially when the pressure was on against Larue. Plus, Walls has been outstanding lately. Potentially, you are right about Sanders and Sheehan, but they have to prove themselves on the mat. Unfortunately, they'll probably have to wrestle in the semis this weekend, but if they beat Coomer in the finals we'll see what happens. On Luna vs Vinsant, I think Vinsant won 4-3 at state duals, at least that's what I saw in the Wayne Co paper.

Slight team update with a few minor changes based on some new info:

I think you're right about the 160 situation. Lets run through common opponents.

Fyffe over Hildreth by 6.

Hildreth pinned by Tennessee kid.

Walls techs same Tennessee kid.

He didn't rank Walls over Fyffe on a whim.

i agree with most of these cory spencer couldnt beat carr last year but has gotten much bigger this and could very well be the biggest 103 at state and i think could beat him, matt zarth is really tough but everyone in front of him has beaten him, eric bryant however will NOT win state, i agree wtih sanders depending upon his draw, tony king is a tough wrestler and i dont think he should be any lower 160 is a weak weight class, i dont know much about doyle and ashworth is extremely tough and i think could place better than 5th if he gets the draw he needs

With the Coopers bumping up, there will be several guys who should be moved around in the rankings. This will have a big impact on the regionals in Northern Ky.

I still stand by my opinion... Bryant will win. Give him some credit, he is the only High School All-American in the state of Kentucky.

Both J. Cooper and A. Cooper bumped up, 152 and 160, respectably, I think they will still be the same rank in those classes (close, Josh moving up). I think Ryan Vaughn has moved in at 145 for Sk and will show what a real first year warrior can do, I want to see what can happen. He will not win state or regionals but will make things interesting for some who do not know him and in the next two years. Mcguffey looks tough too, there needs some to be some re-thinking. SK wrestles big time programs in the OH side to get ready for this, they look ready I think they will be in the top six.

Monkeyroll...Are you not the fella that made that god-awful state duals prediction. I'll bet you another steak dinner that Bryant does not beat Scott (if they do indeed meet). He's good but not quite at Scott's level. Have you seen Scott wrestle?

I did mess up on the state dual prdictions... I was there watching and was very shocked on how Woodford didn't bring it. None of there pinners pinned. Congrats once again to Larue.

I have seen both Bryant and Scott wrestle and Bryant is more technical and stronger than Scott, but Scott may have the edge in speed. I believe that Bryant will win by 2-6 points.

I do bet a steak dinner on that!!

Ranger-These are pretty good but James Glenn from PRP beat John thomas twice, one by major decision and once by pin and michael helsley twice by pin. He also lost to Ty Wolf in bouble overtime.

i'll beat with you to monkeyroll he will not beat scott

Scott looked tough last year beating his his opponent so easy in the finals, but havent saw him this year, heard he looked like he was cutting alot.

monkeyroll - did you say Eric Bryant is Kentucky's only h.s. AA? Is this true? Is this like a pre-season AA ranking thing? Where did you see this at...just curious.

Also, Ranger123 - I look forward to your rankings each week....they are very interesting and you are a friggin genius putting these together. Just curious why Mitch Ervin is ranked ahead of Aylor & Wilson...has he beaten any of the top 145 lbers this year? Just curious.

I do believe LaRue should be 1 and Woodford should be 2. LaRue has beat them twice this year.

Bacon's mom - a dual meet is way different than a tournament. With 7 wrestlers ranked in the top 2, as much as I hate to admit it...that difference will be pretty obvious come state. Unless some of their wrestlers stumble, WC will walk through state. Personally, I've always felt like the State Duals should be for crowning the Team Champion, and the individuals should be crowned at the state tournament. Some states do it this way...and it seems to make a lot of sense if you ask me.

In a sense, i agree with you (bacon's mom)...if Larue can beat them head to head twice, they have proven they are the better team..without a doubt in my mind. BUT it will be very unlikely they'll beat WC down state. That's why WC is ranked #1. Come to think of it, it's pretty messed up.

I believe ervin beat Wilson at the Christian Count tournament a couple weeks ago.

Larue will be taking names................ I want Woodford C. people to tell me they are not scared, ...........too many have been talkin' all year, coach must have told them to get off of it. I think it is great they have been ranked with all the stuff, but I think Larue has more,,,,,,,,,,,, go SK

i love steak also...monkeyroll i wanna bet also but not illegally like that ass. coach to wayne gretsky in hockey..lol bryant won't even place inthe top 3 this year at 125. he should have stayed at 130, would have had a better chance. I dont even think he will beat warner or miller.
