John Fahy vs Jarvis Elam

Topic ID: 5183 | 54 Posts

it seems to be a pretty popular debate so i decided to make a poll

personally i think john fahy of this year would of beat jarvis

Jarvis Elam all the way

I dunno who would win seeing this wont ever happen but jarvis did do pretty well for only 4 years of wrestling. Jv for 2 years behind adam carr and aaron carr at 103 (what a deep weight for a team in one year  2 state champs and a 2 time runner up)

faye would win

i think he would stop elams duckunder and slowly eat him away throughout the match winning by a major

Jarv has a deadly inside trip too he hit people with.

Jarv has a deadly inside trip

I change my mind. Jarvis would win. lol  :-D

fan of a inside trip their danger???

Well judging how Fahy placed at Beast of the East...as a FRESHMAN... i think he could handle just about any 103 to every come out of Kentucky, yeah hes that good

Hmm idk about any. I think Elliot Martin at 103 would give him a good match. I mean he did beat bradbury in the finals.

yeah i actually never saw jarvis hit a duck under, i only saw his nasty trip. it was up to par with justins duck under if you ask me. by that i mean he could hit it on anyone.

he wouldent beat kyyle rucescell when he was 103

idk, that one would be close as well. kyle ruschell got beat by dan trejo in the state finals at 103. dan trejo was sort of like jarvis, really, really strong. i'd say trejo was stronger, but it would still be hard to tell. especially since jarvis and trejo wrestled so far apart.

Jason Talbott when he was at 103 was pretty tough as well, or maybe when he was at 12. getting old and cant remember anymore.

in 2004 he won state at 103. im pretty sure he pinned everyone at state

Jarvis Elam hands down. Close match though

Jason Talbott when he was at 103 was pretty tough as well, or maybe when he was at 12. getting old and cant remember anymore.

He was tough at all 3 weight classes. MOW at 119. He wrestled for a while at Stanford and went onto medical school at UofL.

I am very proud of him because he actually used all those "life lessons" that wrestling teaches.

I think I need to clarify what I said, when I said fahy would 'handle' any 103 to ever come out of KY, i didnt mean he would walk all over people but that he would be the favorite going into any match.

i respectfully but completely disagree

Ok then, who would be ahead of him?

So, you think he would walk all over people?

Elliot Martin, kyle ruschell, Luke Metzker, Joe Carr

i mean this isnt very hard.

As a 103, Fahy would've beat all these.

As a 103, Fahy would've beat all these.

NO WAY! Joe Carr!?!?!?!?! Really? well its like arguing with a wall. haha i give up

Didn't Carr lose to a guy from Union Co in the finals one year, 119rider right?

Yes. That is true. 119Rider, elaborate please for everyone!

Yes, 2-1. Wasn't as close as it looked.

Judging by Fahy's placing at the Beast of the East and his domination the entire year I'd pick him over any 103 to ever come out of Kentucky.

I wouldn't pick him over any.  I would pick him over Elam though.  Not to take anything away from jarvis, I just think John would probably win by superior tecnique.  I think he could neutralize Elam's strength.

how many national tournements did these guys place at

i now martin got 8th at junior nationals

ruchele is awsome now but do you really think he would have beatin faye when he was a 103 faye is 1 of the top guys in the country and i dont think any of these guys would have beatin him

I think that it will all depend upon how Fahy does in college. He seems like the type kid that wants to wrestle for a big program, and do something big.

I think that as well 385. Your top notch college wrestlers are a breed apart from your average wrestler. They excel from the time they eneter high school and beyond. John could possibly be one of those kids, I personally hope so. I think as a state we need him to do well just like Kyle has been doing at Wisconsin. The more exposure the better. It only makes the state better as a whole when you have individuals like him that perform beyond the norms.

As a 103, Fahy would've beat all these.

No.  I am sorry.  That is a poor statement, and I understand you are a Trinity homer, but come now, that is foolish.  Fahy is a good wrestler, and will be great.  He would not have beaten Joe Carr at 103, 112, 119, or 300.  It would not matter, Joe was superior in technique to Fahy now.

I would also elaborate to say, that speculation is great but Fahy still has three more years to prove his 'dominance'.  Lets see his senior year and then compare him to Joe Carr.  That should be, assuming everything pans out as 99.99999% of this website and the rest of the state assumes be a good argument.  He still has a lot to prove.  He has dominated middle school, handled a weak 103 class, placed 5th at a major tournament, and impressed a lot of college coaches and national level people. Excellent.  So did Carr.  Let's see what the future holds.

At what national tournament did Joe Carr place 5th as a Freshman?

I don't know if Carr got the exposure like Fahy did as a Freshman. He may have but my memory is fading so he may of just wrestled a typical high school schedule. It's really to hard to compare wrestlers of different generations because the bar is being raised higher and higher. 15 to 20 years ago this discussion would of been easy, nowadays it is a little harder because the talent level in Kentucky has been raised. I for one am glad we get to have these discussions because it shows how much we are growing as a state overall. We need more debates of wrestlers now instead of wrestlers from back in the day.

119- I do agree, good point.  I have always wondered how there where SO many multi time state champions back in the 70's and 80' and early 90's.  It kind of always struck me as weird when someone would bring up the slew of WC, Hoptown, or Northern KY guys who won 2-3 championships a piece or where 4x 5x finalists.

I wasn't there then, but it seems by the recollections of others, that while they where tough, the competition pool was much smaller than today.

Uhh JoJo got sick of the tournys in this nation and went to Belgium to wrestle,,, yea i would say way more exposer. Think of who his dad is, im sure Nate was drilling with jojo and little nate in the off season as much as fayhe is now.

Like I said my memory is fading. And we didn't have gps to track what every kid in the state was doing. I'm sure Carr's workout was pretty intense with his uncles. But we did not have such a great website such as this to let us know what he was doing. We only saw him when he was in Kentucky. I know Carr was ranked pretty high in the nation before going to Senior nationals and placing 2nd.

there is such a great website, this one. now you don't need the gps, because there are plenty of people on this website that don't have a fading memory. your welcome.

Perfectly said.  I think Fahy has the potential to be one of the best ever, but he has a long 3 more years to prove that.  We might have said the same about Travis Sullivan except for one match.  The thing that makes Fahy compare more favorably with Joe Carr is his willingness to wrestle national competition, even if it means taking a few losses.  Kyle Ruschell took losses in his career wrestling in Ohio and nationally, and went up several weight classes his senior year to prepare for college wrestling.  If John can place high or win at a national tournament, or wrestle in the Dapper Dan Classic like Joe did his senior year, we will look back at both of their careers with pride and say that Kentucky has produced some real thoroughbreds.

I sense a little bit of anger directed towards the man that prevented your coach of being even more historical...

No reason to be rude.  Woodford Co trains there kids better than that.

Doesn't bother me any 385. It's just history. He'd probably tech me or pin me nowadays.

you contribute so much to people hating woodford county. it really is unfair to your school.

my first point, if you are going to cry and say, "we hate you wofo!!!!" ok thats good for me, shows me youre weak. my second point, i don't care who 119rider is. he/she could be a 5x olympian god of wrestling that has never been shot on succesfully. I DON'T CARE!!!!!! ok thats past us. now back on topic. JoJo told me he placed 2nd as a freshman at nationals. and like i said, he got bored in america so he went to a different continent to wrestle. Fahy isn't on jojo's level

Only time will tell there young fella. Fahy didnt get to wrestle for his high school as an 8th grader like Carr did. They can both till end up with the same amount of titles. Like I said, it is hard to judge the talent that Carr wrestled compared to what Fahy is wrestling now. Those are just 2 different time periods. This debate will probably go on for the next 3 years at least if not longer. Both are and were very talented wrestlers but again it is too hard to debate on wrestlers from different times. Competition in Kentucky has improved because of talented coaches that wrestled in college are coming back here and the implementation of college programs has helped build interest and made our sport grow. There will always be someone somewhere that raises the bar. Joe did that in the mid-to late 90's. Now it is time to give someone else a chance to carry the burden.

he placed 2nd as a freshman at nationals.

NHSCA Freshman Nationals have only existed since 2007.  What "nationals" are you referring to?

He might of went to Nationals in Fargo. Those were the premier tourneys to got to back in the day. If you could place there then you were a stud.

ZING...

Zing? 119rider just explained....zing

It was a zing because it totally disproved everything you said. Zing.
