This year union set the scoring record at the state tournament. 4 state champs. Beating the second place team by 113 points.
The crazy part is the second place team Johnson Central had 7 kids in the semi finals. 3 in the finals and a state champ and union still out scored them by over 100.
Yes. Scored points in 13/14 weight classes. 11/14 finished top 3. The best team ever in my opinion.
I think so, plus a jv state championship adds to it. Not only did they do that, they have depth and a pair of studs on IR.
I think the 2020 Union County team was a better team (Eckman, Gavin Ricketts, Glen Mayes, Gabe Adams, Jake Insko, Trevor Pogue, Payne Carr, Dalton Russelburg, Stephen Little, Micah and Matthias, Darius Moore, and Corinthian Seales). The way some brackets fall (especially this year) allow for more points to be scored in unexpected ways by unsuspecting wrestlers.

I don't remember Darius and Corinthian wrestling on the same team. That 2020 was great no doubt about it, but I do think this team has a slight edge on them.
If you lined those 2 teams up in a dual, the 2020 team would probably win. The 106 on that team- Cam Vinson.
Weight classes have changed since 2020, so if you just go by numerical order of the lineup, it would look something like this in hypothetical land...

Cortithian had a bad tourney, and they didn't have a real 106 or the record would be 2020. the Raneys, Luke Thomas, Lucas Ricketts, and Abe were too young and Braxton was too small.
106 Cam was a 7th grader and not too good yet.
120lb Gavin was young
126 Mayes was young and got much better
A prime Micah and Lucas would be a battle.
Matthias was arguably the best HWT ever.

Vinson went 0-2 at state that year and Mayes didn’t even place.
Also Russelburg 2x state champ, Mathias is without a doubt pinning Cummings.

That is a great point, they were missing 2 studs to injury and Jackson Taylor will be on the varsity podium next year for sure. Can you imagine what Union would have scored if those 2 had been healthy.

Clifford stepped in for the injured Utah Heady and found his way into the finals. Abe Fletcher would have shifted Lucas to 190 and Vinson to 215 most likely.
