john fahy unstoppable???

who else thinks that this kid is the next 4 time state champ

I do. He's a machine.

i say he has a shot but he will probably be going up in weight as the years go on and you never really know

in the state i would say he is pretty unstoppable but not out of state

With a very young 103 weight class he was a machine.  However, he needs to continually grow as a wrestler, or stay at 103 to hit the 4 time mark.  Of course, with the competition he has a tendency to hit in other major events, I am sure he will continue to grow.

No way he stays at 103. He continued to grow throughout the season and "rumor" (from a very reliable source) is he weighed 122 two weeks prior to regionals.  Remember he didn't wrestle several weekends during this time.  I see him at 125 next season.

without a doubt.  i don't think he'll lose a match in kentucky.  he's gonna grow, but he'll still be strong for his size and his technique is a lot better than the majority of the lightweights he's going to face.  next year will be the tricky year if he bumps up to like a 119 or 125 and runs into a stud there, but after that I think he'll cruise.

i agree.

what ever i know the guy and i know that he'll work his ass off this summer he's a beat and in my eyes pound for pound he's proly one of the best in the state

hes definatly one of the best pound for pounders otherwise he wouldnt be thins highly touted in the nation    (rated sixth going in to the season, i belive. not sure now)

Im going to go out on a limb, and say that John Fahy will be better than Issac Knable. Lets see how that stirs things up...

look at people in the past that were just as good or better than fahy that didnt end up being 4 timers. you have to understand there will always be someone that is good in every weight.

luke metzker is an example of one. his toughest year he won state but even he wasnt a 4 timer.

I'm the first to dog on 103lbers but he is the real deal.. Will problably be at 119 next year and up from there.  4 time state champ no doubt.  In fact I'll go as far to say he'll go all four years undefeated in the state.

4 timer no doubt?

I remember when this same BS was posted about sullivan.

SEE! i heard it all the time about sullivan. there will always be someone that everyone thinks will be a 4 timer but its harder than some of you think. you think just cuz the kid is that good that he cant be beat. what if next year some other kid comes into highschool who is better than fahy?

No doubt.  Thakn you Podgorski.  For real, a 4 time champ is no joke, and not automatic.  To predict ti now is just silly.

That is definitely true. I wrestled 103 as a freshman. I hated that people said they would have the same record as me if they wrestled 103. There is some truth to it. There are some, well say less than solidly athletic kids that come out at that weight, but your still wrestling guys your same size. Congrats to Fahy for the freshman state title. But if he wants to be a four timer he will have to work non stop from now until after the finals his senior year. Who would have thought Sullivan would have lost his last state finals? :| Thats what makes wrestling great, if you slip up and get lazy, there is always someone out there willing to work harder.....

Anything is possible, obviously.  But he has more experience wrestling the toughest competition in the nation than any kid in our state.  He is a counselor at Jeff Jordan's camps.  No one is hyping this kid up.  You will see.

i will say it wasnt a huge upset to me when sullivan lost. i mean who he lost to in my opinion was the biggest upset about him losing, but the fact of him losing wasnt a huge upset in my eyes. im not saying that because i dont think he was good, but im saying it because he had so much pressure riding on his shoulders that last match of his highschool career, i think that just about anybody in the entire state at 112 could have beaten him.

Alot of people would argue that he only deserves to be a 2 time state champion.

I think John Fahy is the best freshman to come into KY in a long time.

Only time will tell how he really stacks up against the past.

The great thing about this discussion is we will get to see it play out over the next four years.

I like him and wish him the best!

Good Luck John!

Fahy is a solid wrestler, and the kind of kid we need to take KY to the next level.  I do think he cuts too much weight, or at least looks like he does.  Not the best message to the rest of the state.

The whole cutting weight thing is kind of irritating. I played soccer my senior year and weighed around 147. I cut down to 125 for wrestling and was probably the second strongest wrestler next to Jake Buchenberger of Trinity, who beat me in the semis. It wasn't so much about starving myself as it was portion control, eating select foods, and running about 4 miles at night before I went to bed after practice. If kids eat tuna, grilled chicken breast, baked fish, etc, and drink water, skim milk etc. it is healthy. Now when I went to college and wrestled for Cumberland, cutting down to 125 was a bit much. I was too weak to compete and think that i weighed around 133 the next day. Cutting weight to a point can be healthy, just have limits. Don't lose too much muscle when you cut or it is pointless. Everybody cut weight back in the day, today kids are softer for the most part. If Fahy cuts weight and is the strongest in his class, don't pan his efforts. If he starts getting sick and malnourished then be concerned and talk to him.

This is why Im betting that John goes 119 next year.

in my opinion sullivan could have been a hell of a wrestler and a 4 timer for sure but he lost his edge and people stopped getting all worked up over the name and just started to wrestle

Very true. I think his senior year not very many people were as impressed with him. He had a lot of great potential, but none of it was realized.

What we need to take KY to the next level is refs and a KHSAA commission that stick by the rules specifically.

1.  Illegal holds are specifically shown in the rule book.  An example, you cannot call someone making a fist and hiking back their elbow before delivering a "cross-face" an illegal hold.  Rather, that is unsportsmanlike conduct.

2.  Stalling is to be called when one person is not being agressive in their position and should not be called just because one person has a marginal lead.  If one guy backs up off the whistle, it should be an automatic stalling call - period - end of story.  If the person on bottom is not constantly moving, he/she should be called for stalling.  If a wrestler stays in the same position for a count of 10, they should be hit for stalling.  If wrestlers are continually going out of bounds, the wrestler that is causing this action needs to be hit with stalling. Oh, and btw, both wrestlers should not be hit for stalling at the same time, if both wrestlers are stalling at the same time, it is the fault of the ref for not calling the one that stalled in the first place.

3.  If wrestlers are allowed to die their hair to colors not natural, then the rule needs to be eliminated from the rule book.

These are just a few off the top of my head.  Kentucky cannot improve in appearance across the nation until refs force coaches to coach their wrestlers appropriately.

One comment and one question.

i believe that In Ohio if ur first step is back off the whistle then you are automatically called for stalling.

What was the last part about dyeing your hair about?

In the rule book it states that you must have a natural hair color.  So pink/ blue out.  Kid would have to cut it or cover it before they got to the mat.  This rule is never enforced.  Should simply just be taken out of the book.

So according to the rule book you could dye ur hair just not a flamboyant color?

I recall a discussion like this last year regarding refs not strictly enforcing certain rules like referees position.  I've seen a lot of big national tournaments high school & college where they are very relaxed on this.  Some very knowledgeable people on this site (grapplehed) also said they seen this sort of thing at the beast of the east.  I'm not necessarily disagreeing with what you are saying, but it's not just in Kentucky where rules are not always strictly adhered to.  The hair thing seems like a silly thing for refs to be worried about.

Unless it is a recent thing, they were all be adhered too.  I have not only wrestled in most northeastern & midwestern states, but also coached in Michigan.  While participating and coaching, the rules were stricktly adhered too.  I remember as a freshman being called for unsportsmanlike conduct because I made a fist while doing a crossface (no bringing back my elbow or anything) and I was told by the ref that the next time I would be disqualified and that the only reason I wasn't was because my elbow was not brought backwards.  Also, as a coach and as a wrestlers I saw time and time again wrestlers being called for stalling because they moved in a backward motion off the whistle in neutral position.  So, if this is a recent thing, I would hope it gets fixed and I know that by wrestlers fully enforcing the rules, Kentucky wrestling will get stronger.

Oh, and by the way, the hair thing was mentioned because it should be removed from the rule book.  However, a similar rule was in the books in Michigan about face masks and having any sort of drawings, etc.. on them and it was strictly enforced.  I had a face mask that had the drawing of two wrestlers on it and it was not allowed due to this rule.  I realize the rule is silly, but it is mainly silly because it hasn't been enforced and thus should be removed or enforced.

I agree with all the rules being adhered to but this is a little off topic.

This is an interested topic in itself and deserves a thread of its own.

Agreed. Back to Fahy....who thinks Fahy could have beaten Jarvis last year?

I think that subject has been pretty much beat to death!!  See the post in Gen Wrestling.

The whole Fahy everything has been beaten to death, its time to let this kids accomplishments speak for themselves. Lets see how he does in the future.

Fahy is not unstopable he has bad days just like the rest of us...but what makes him so good is tht most wrestlers tht wrestle him are afraid or doubt them selves.... He is a great wrestler and can take ky tot the next level but.. can be beaten by a soild wrestler who is not afraid... :-D

Then be that wrestler.

I mean i look forward to wrestling him again...i wrestled him mi 1st year wrestling and he...killed me....but i look forward to getting mi revenge....if he ever bumped up to 135

Probably not going to happen. And FYI; the correct spelling is MY not MI

Fahy unstoppable is a long stretch. I think he will be very dominant in Kentucky but far from unstoppable. Just because there is no one on his level for the lower weights does not mean someone will step up. Look at Metcalf, everyone said he was unstoppable and look at the level of competition he had. Fahy is just in high school and has a lot of room for improvement. I would like to see how he fairs next year at 119 or 125.

Dont jinx him unless u want him to be like travis sullivan

First of all don't even mention Fahy in the same sentence as Sullivan until Fahy becomes a 4x finalist and 3x champ. To be honest I'm sure Fahy would love to have that kind of success. So you really don't need to be putting Sullivan down. Second of all I don't believe in jinx I believe in destiny, hard work, sweat, blood, tears, and a mental edge. That is what it's going to take at the highest level for Fahy to keep doing well.

I agree, I read that like 5 times and I still don't understand what he said lol Look NWfkhs/ chhs, I don't know what you said in your last post but, I will say this; Honestly, I could care less what John Fahy does in his high school career. It wouldn't effect me at all, I do wish him luck in the future though. What all these people are saying he is unstoppable it really bothers me because I see it every year. Kids get it in their minds that one guy is unstoppable, for ex. Metcalf, but alot of times what they don't realize is ANYONE can be beat ANYDAY. That is why only one kid usually shines out of KY rather than several kids with the potential shining and creating a name for KY in the sport of wrestling.
