Just wondering which teams have dropped wrestling?

Waggner, Ballard, Henderson.
Not sure but have not seen: Calloway and Davies County from the west; Newport from the North;Oneida Baptist, Pike County, and Prestonburg from the East.
Unconfirmed rumor that KCD will not be back.
Ballard -- they're selling their mats.
Waggener --last time they fielded anyone was five years ago, I think
KCD -- as far as I know, but they may resurrect it

Calloway and Daviess have active programs. Trigg County will start a varsity program next season. Rumor is that McCracken County and Marshall County are going to start a program and Henderson County may return.

Ya im giving a speech on how wrestling programs should stop getting cut. Im bringing up Henderson County in my speech, any other ideas for what I should do?
Talk about giving all kids an opportunity to play. Wrestling is for all athletes big and small. Not much else is going that time of year outside of Basketball. Its great for football and many pro football players have wrestled.
Who you giving a speech to?
I believe that I saw Newport at a tournament this year
Waggener has no interest in wrestling at their school. They have not even advertised for a wrestling coach in the last 7 years. Not sure who the A.D is but he obviously does not want wrestling. You can atleast put an ad out seeking a coach. If you can't find one thats a different story but if you are not even looking for one.... Its just unacceptable to me to drop a sports program that has done well and can do well.

Yes they have been to a couple i've been to. They're not much of a known team since the ilgs and hale left there. But they had one state qualifier. Quantez jeffery i believe.

Nobody big, speech class. If it goes well though I might give to Mrs Gusse and see if she can help secure some funding for the wrestling team. Our New Jersey wrestler guy refused to wrestle for us because we were too underfunded.

We almost lost our wrestling program because our Athletic Director didn't try at all to find a new coach. We had to complain just to get into the wrestling room and went most of the year without a coach. I don't consider it a good idea to have an assistant football coach as the A.D. as well. There was one guy that told me he left 4 phone calls and 2 emails that were unanswered. He also turned down Thomas Campbell for a minor fault when we werent really in a position to get that picky
I have seen many football coaches in this state shut down programs or have influence on the shutting down of a program.

This one is sad because they were once a contender. Phil Coomes coached there a long time ago.

I do not know who you got your information from, but Henderson County will not field a team. Some parents wanted it and tried to back the program gracefully, others did not, but that is neither here nor there. The School Board, the super intendent and the athletic director are dead set against Henderson ever having a program, regardless what they say in meetings. They don't want wrestling at all......
Thats a shame especially when you have someone will to do it.
Waggener- typical JCPS BS. Wonder why Male doesn't have a team? Same BS.

Butler was on the verge of getting a team last year, so they let a P.E. class vote on it. It was either wrestling or field hockey. And the kids picked field hockey...
they let a gym class decide? thats messed up, would a field hockey team cost more than a wrestling team?

Say what you feel. More importantly FEEL WHAT YOU SAY. Here's an assist for your ending:

This speech was given as a farewell tribute to Marquette University wrestling at a gathering in Milwaukee, WI. on 11-3-01 by Ohio State Head Coach Russ Hellickson.

From the ancient walls of Samaria and from Hieroglyphics written on the tombs of Egyptian Kings, we know that wrestling is a sport of the ages. It touches the lives of all who participate in it and many times even those who just observe it.
Who can forget the emotional victory of Jeff Blatnick over cancer before his gold medal win in Los Angeles in 1984 or the heart rendering upset victory of Rulon Gardner over previously undefeated wrestling icon Alexander Karelin in Australia at the 2000 Olympics.
You can see the impact of the sport in the eyes of even its youngest combatants. Perhaps in apprehension of that very first one on one or that glorious twinkling elation that comes from the first victory over the vanquished foe.
And for those who stay the course for a career, their eyes reflect a passion that penetrates deep into their very soul, a look that impacts for a lifetime and yes a look that makes them what they are.
Here is an image that I want to leave with each of you tonight:
I am Wrestling! Do not weep for me!!
Weep for those who will never experience me.
Weep for those who will never feel the exhausting pain of my training,
Weep for those who will never sense the bond of Camaraderie that once established, will never wane or die.
Weep for those who will never comprehend the demands of my discipline
And most of all, Weep for those poor souls who will never miss me, because they never knew me.
I am Wrestling! Do not weep for me!!
I have been experienced in virtually every culture and civilization known to mankind.
I have been contested in over 150 documented forms in written history.
There is no Nation on this planet that throughout all time, has not experienced me.
I am Wrestling! Do not weep for me!!
Look to those seated around you and think of the qualities that make them what they are:
Accountability, responsibility, persistence, fortitude, strength, compassion, work ethic, ingenuity, determination, integrity, honesty, focus, diligence, and resolve.
Wrestling is not the only place they could acquire these, but By God they all reside here!!
And if you live with me long enough these will become you.
I am Wrestling! Do not weep for me!!
No political agenda or political interpretation can ever destroy me. My merit and my worth is no threat to any cause, but rather through my values, I am a model for others.
I am Wrestling! Do not weep for me!!
Celebrate what I am, celebrate what I have been, celebrate what I represent, and celebrate the many ways I have impacted your life. I will survive this test as I have survived others, I am forever etched into the very fiber of all mankind.
The world needs me.
Time is on my side.
History guarantees me!
I am Wrestling! Do Not weep for me!!

Sweet mother of god I love that speech.
That is one of the best examples of what wrestling does for people. No other sport teaches the values and discipline that wrestling does.
they let a gym class decide? thats messed up, would a field hockey team cost more than a wrestling team?
Yeah, it was an advanced gym class...

Thanks for that link, FCHS. Yes, Title IX killed wrestling at a lot of colleges.

A misunderstanding on how title IX is applied, or more to the point, a misaaplication usually intentionally of how title IX is used is the main reason.

One thing i dont understand for title 9 is about wrestling. What about volleyball, thats a girls sport. What im trying to say is they should use wrestling and volleyball as the same when title 9 comes into play.
I like to watch volleyball, I probably would not like it as much if it were guys wearing the spandex shorts instead of the ladies
