Planning Ahead

Topic ID: 5234 | 11 Posts

Reading another thread got me to thinking. Does anybody plan ahead of a match what they intend to do? I usually just go out there and wrestle, and take what the man/woman standing across from me gives me.

John Smith teaches this whole thing with Chain Wrestling. Were you do a move with the primary intention of setting up other moves. If I know the guy I am wrestling I plan ahead but don't go out the with the intention of hitting like an inside trip right off the bat

Chain wrestling is good, and having a plan is good too.  For example, I knew what takedowns I was good at and where high percentage.  My plan was to usually immediately set up one of my high percentage takedowns, and if it didn't work scramble out to neutral, or dogfight to finish it.

i never went out with a plan in mind. but if i knew a wrestler was good at something, i always thought about what i should do or how i should wrestle to neutralize that. for instance, if i knew the kid i was wrestling was good at sweep singles, maybe i would lead with a different leg, to make it tougher for him to score with that move. if i knew a kid was tough on top, maybe id choose neutral instead of bottem, or i would make sure my stand off was more explosive than normal. if i didn't know anything about the wrestler i was wrestling, then as said above, i would use what he gave me.

I didn't mean chain wrestling, I was talking about; like in football, your very first drive is supposed to be planned out. The coaches know way ahead of time what plays they are going to run. I was thinking something like that...

Above all, using what your opponant gives you means you will be on the bottom alot.

if thats the case no i lose alot of times if i go out there and say ok i am gonna hit this, this, and this, and if he counters this, i am gonna do that, and if that doesn't work i am gonna do this. It doesn't work like that you have to know 3 moves from neutral that you know you can hit, 3 move from bottom you know you can hit, and 3 moves on top you know you can do. This is the preperation that every good wrestler has.

i ussually dont agree with the things you post but i will agree this time Kentucky10 because if you plan to much and get focused on specific moves in aspecific order and it doesnt work out you will probably be in trouble

Kentucky10 has it down pretty good.  The game plan for every wrestler should be to dominate every aspect of the match; tempo, positions, score etc.  My game plan is simply to keep my opponent moving on the defensive.  I have my basic shots/moves and whichever one presents itself is the one I take.  Obviously if you want a slide-by and your opponent doesn't collar tie you then it's going to be very hard to do hit that move.  I think that's what he was referring to.

I don't think about nothing i just make it up as i go and try to take what they give me or don't give them a chance and tap on the head and go in for a shot.

I believe if you have to think about which move to do it
