It's here at last, my favorite time of the year. This is where we get to experience our primal nature in it's most basic form. Like the Roman gladiators, our young men will step into the arena to do battle with one another and we as spectators will try to become a part of the battle as we let our emotions spill forth. Call it what you want but wrestling brings intensity and intensity brings emotion. While most other sports are just simply filled with drama, fighting sports are the utter form of raw and savage intensity. I don't try to do a Dr. Phil on this either since wrestling is the oldest sport and God (I believe) has ordained it...ie... Jacob wrestled with God (who by the way is ranked first in his weight class) as well as Paul's metaphors concering it as well as other sports. (Sorry for the religious thing). So as we partake of this great drink we call wrestling, I would personally like to wish everyone a safe tournament and the best of luck. Let's forget seedings and rankings and all the other nuances of the game and let us let the particpants settle all the issues. Come Saturday night, let's appreciate all of the finalists and what they sacrificed to get to that point. Cheer for your kids and pick them up when the lose. Let's all make a statement to the rest of Kentucky and make this tournament the most exciting and best ever. Let's get this party started!!
Let's get this party started!

The most draining event of the year.
The emotional roller coaster of the state tournament. Your 112 gets upset and the tears well up then your 130 conitues his run for the title. Your 152 losses a close match in overtime and your Hwt. upsets the #2 kid.
Thats what this event is all about. Happyness, sadness, pride, and pity.
Other than your wedding or the birth of your first born is there anything else like it.
Brother Happy Pappy,
Quite a post, straight from the pulpit.
I am glad you have God ranked first, what weight is he by the way, we want to avoid that one in the future!
Great post!
I do believe his weight class is infinity and BTW, I'll be the one in the LaRue section with the fur skin on beating on a moonrock with the leg bone from a mammoth...UH..UH..UH!!!!
Better watch out, I hear he is cutting to infinity-40. He's doing it for the team. It is a lot of weight, but he is dedicated and such a team player.
Ranger,
You ought to see what he did for me just the other day! Great guy!
Nice post Pappy and you have quite a way with words. I wish I had as great a command of the English language as you do. Anyway, this weekend has all the makings of one of the closest team races in history and that can be incredibly exciting for everyone. I have attended many NCAA championships and the one that stands out is the one in which Iowa beat Minnesota by like two points a few years back!! It came down to the heavyweight finals and the place was electric, the stadium was electric all weekend long as Iowa and Minnesota exchanged the lead with each and every match. Why do I mention that NCAA tournament? I had a few extra minutes and scored the entire tournament the other night. Here is what I came up with:
LaRue - 3 finalists
Woodford - 3 finalists
LaRue - 2 in consolation finals
Woodford - 4 in consolation finals
LaRue - 9 total medallers
Woodford - 9 total medallers
Woodford - 210 points
LaRue - 209 points
In other words, this is too close to call!!! You always have upsets along the way and pins are hard to call, but this just shows that the team race could get very, very exciting. At that NCAA tournament, I didn't care who won the overall race, but got caught up with the excitement as I watched two groups of fans who dislike one another cheer against each other, two teams who don't really care for each other, go head to head in competition and well, when these two teams met on the mat in a weight class, it was a WAR. On Saturday the team score was announced after each time Iowa or Minn wrestled and the score normally changed. What a weekend and what a weekend this one is stacking up to be with LaRue and Woodford going head to head yet again!! You think the fans from these two schools won't be worth the drive to watch and listen to????
Oh yea, that heavy weight match that the entire NCAA tournament came down to??? Was between a little guy named Steven Neal (now the starting right guard for the New England Patriots) the defending national champion, and he was against a little guy named Brock Lesnar from Minn. The final score?? 6 - 5 in favor of Neal and Iowa won the team championship by 2 points.
Hmm, could it come down to a defending state champion at heavy weight against a challenger from Woodford County at heavy weight??? Now wouldn't that get the entire Civic Center rocking!?!?!?!
BigCoach - I give Woodford a little more of an edge (not much) with the following:
LaRue - 2 finalists
Woodford - 3 finalists
LaRue - 0 in consolation finals
Woodford - 2 in consolation finals
LaRue - 9 total medallers
Woodford - 10 total medallers
Correction, I looked at the numbers wrong:
LaRue - 2 finalists
Woodford - 5 finalists
LaRue - 2 in consolation finals
Woodford - 3 in consolation finals
LaRue - 9 total medallers
Woodford - 10 total medallers
I think BigCoach might be a little closer in the predictions. Think about it, LaRue should have madalists in 103-160 (unless several of our guys don't wrestle like they should!!!!). Banks and Parker should be in finals, and Matt Miller has looked very good all year.
None the less, good luck to all guys this weeked, i will be the guy eating the steak which HappyPappy has been so kind as to supply!! THANKS PAPPY!!!!
Where is my Dusty Brown, My Coopers? Why, Oh why, can't we get some respect? We do OH, you do KY and TN, let's remember!
Yes! I am happy for this time of year, Pappy said it best! Good luck to ALL!
Great posts guys!!
Another point, lets see if we can keep the boos down this year. I know its part of the sport, but these are still kids. Woodford and Larue fans are BOTH guilty of this. Lets boo the refs, not the wrestlers.....
Good luck to all, it should be fun.

I agree with you about the boos, unless a kid moons the crowd and gives the bird or something. But i don't think that will happen.
Where has dusty brown been i know he was injured as everyone else has been this year it seems but i havent heard anything about him since he came back
