Great day of wrestling. I continue to be impressed by the level of competition that shows up at this event every summer. This year we saw some great wrestling from the midgets all the way up to the high school guys (the old guys sucked a lot of wind). The split sessions worked out great. A job well done by Coach McCoy and staff. I don't know what the final bout count was, but there were a lot of matches. Yes, there were some delays because people don't report to the mats when they should, but overall a great day of wrestling. Thanks to Coach McCoy and staff!

Where were the Ryle kids? I would've thought after their camp, they'd be chomping at the bit to wrestle live.
the final bout count was 531...it was a great day of wrestling and for that many bouts was ran very well. Great job coach McCoy

Is that the total amount of wreslters or total amount of wrestlers in brackets.
What I mean is many wrestlers were in two brackets. Where they counted twice or only once.

Coach McCoy...will you be posting any results. I'm sure there are alot of folks that would like see them.
The bout count was 531.
I've been told the number of entrants for the day was 213.
Congrats to Coach McCoy and staff for running a great tournament. I was there from start to finish and things ran very smoothly. It seems that the split format was a success. Even though it was an improvement over last year it would be nice to have more pre-registrations next year. It takes some pressure off McCoy and staff and makes their job a lot easier.
I believe the goal for number of participants was 200 and we bested it by 10 (that's 210 for those of you that can't add, haha just kidding :-P). So congrats to everyone who showed up and helped make the event a success. McCoy might want to get on here but do I hear 230 or 250 for next year?? Let's get this thing so big that it has to take two days. Maybe Saturday and Sunday; one for the little ones and one for high schoolers and older.
2 days! Well, you know that would give me a good excuse to hang up the competitive shoes and just show up for my boys. I see no reason why we can't get at least 250 kids there. There was very little representation from some of the larger programs in the general area (northern and central Ky) and it seemed like even the Lexington numbers were down a bit.
where was tc? i only saw one kid from their and very few from dunbar but other than that i have to give it to the lexington area
I think one way to improve the numbers would be to know where the remote weigh in sites are going to be much earlier.
Even here in Nky I didn't know exactly when and where the remote weigh in was going to be until about 1 week before the match.
If wrestlers and parents knew at least a month in advance i think more would show up. I know we would not have attended it there was not a remote weigh in. I couldn't make two trips to Lexington one on Friday just to weigh in and come back home.
I think this should be one of the priorities for next year. Find out where and when the remote weigh ins will be held.
I know Campbell County has been a remote site for a number of years and pretty sure it will be next season.
yea i was the only tc boy their but i mess my side up so my parent made me with draw from it but the torment was awesome and ran very well good job :-D
Some photos from the event... (results will be posted after they are released from the state games)

Results will be posted soon. I will let everyone know how many participants there were once I get the official count. Thanks to all that helped. The bout count was 531 which is a lot of bouts and there were hardly any pins which means that most of the bouts were very good.

Which also means the refs were toughing out all day too. Kudos fellas. I don't get to say that to them often enough.

Yes I have to agree with this. The refs, who I bet weren't paid, did a great job and I for one sincerely appreciate their efforts. Thanks guys!!!
The final count was 201 participants. Great job to those who participated in helping us hit our marks. I think we can hit 300 next year if we can get more kids from the Eastern and Western part of the state to come. Also, Lexington wrestlers have to step it up. There were a few that wrestled from Lexington (maybe 10 at the HS level) and I am sure they benefited from the competition. This tournament is in your backyard. There is really no excuse for low numbers out of Lexington.
Just a thought, but $10 seems a bit better than $25, especially when you have multiple kids. Most USA tournaments can be put on for only $10. However, I also know that the Ohio State Fair costs around $25, but it counts as admission to the fair as well. I have never been to the Bluegrass state games, so what I am saying could be already in place. In that case, though, it would be nice to know what all the $25 admission cost is for. Way back in 1992 when I first went to the Ohio State Fair, I was sent (for my registration) admission tickets as well as a guide to the fair explaining all exhibits and everything. It was really nice.
The $25.00 covers entry cost, secondary insurance coverage, and a T-shirt. It also covers free admission to a Lexington Legends game the night before. Admission for family members is free.
Is the secondary insurance used to cover anything else? I only ask because making it a USA tournament would take care of that and I know with over 200 in numbers, decent t-shirts can be purchased for $3-4, so it could be dropped to $15. However, the admissions probably make the price worth it, but not knowing about them ahead of time isn't as good, maybe this could be advertised better next year and that 300 count would be easier to obtain. Of course the other thing about making it a USA tournament is then being able to advertise on themat.com which could draw from other states as well. Just a thought.

speaking of t-shirts.
My son and the two others that we brought did not recieve a t-shirt.
You can contact the BGSG office for your shirt.
As far as the entry fee goes...
It is $20.00 up to three days before the event which is reasonable. The games do have to pay office employees, referees, renting facilities, etc. I know that they have sponsors but there are years that they barely get out of the red. All of this said, if this was made a USA event, it would add cost for those who have to join. They try to make the event it's own thing so that all can participate (AAU, USAW, and those who only come out on the mat for this one event). I am a big USA Wrestling advocate and would love to see it move in that direction. Unfortunately, I don't see it happening. BGSG is a business. A few years ago they were going to shut the games down completely due to losing money. It is starting to gain steam and I hope that $20 (or $25) is not the reason we cannot keep this thing growing.
By the way....look for results tomorrow arond noon.
Alright, I was just trying to help. I checked into the Ohio State Fair and it is a USA event that attracts far more competitors and only charges $10 including entrance to the Fair for the day for those that enter early and $15 for those that register at the door. Granted, they don't offer a t-shirt or entrance to a game for the whole family. Maybe we could start something at the Kentucky Fair. Anyone have a friend of a friend that runs the show there?
I dont think you could have anything because a lot of kids will be playing there fall sports at the time of the Kentucky Fair
