Biggest Upsets

Now that all is said and done who do you think had the biggest upset at state, or who had the most surprising match?

Non finals match- Josh Burkette beating Tristen Hines

And finals match was Joe Powers, him beating Mines and Scott County in the same day is pretty awsome.

harrison courtney beating pat banks in the finals at 145.....very big upset

ross carpertier-frasier from MC beating cody vinsant and almost making it to the finals was very surprising, and cliff cornett beating jon chiu of seneca was a pretty big upset

Wheeler not even placing? Wood getting 8th, Powers beating Thuraman(sp)then Mines, there was a lot of them.

Anthony patrick beatiing larue's 135 twice!

Mike Clark losing to brian Hill

The Corey Peters/Kyle Goodrich match should have been an upset, but Goodrich is from woodford county, he got all the right calls from the ref that he needed from the officials to win all his matches along with all the other woodford wrestlers who had questionable calls. Corey took him down atleast 4 or 5 times but no matter how close any of them were to being out of bounds, all of them were called out because it was a woodford person getting taken down. Did any body else hear about the ref who got kicked out because he was cheating for teams??

AllAmerican103 I dont know what match you were watching but Peters was backing up the whole match and never got him for stalling once. Seemed to me like the calls went his way. Dont blame it on because he goes to Woodford Co. thats a joke.

AA, your a joke. And don't call yourself AllAmerican103, cause AA's don't blame matches on refs.

Take a note from teams like Woodford, SO and Larue. You will rarely hear them conplain about refs, they work for it!

I think that a very big upset was the Cody Walls( Caldwell Co.)/ and Jacob Hildreth( Cambell Co.) Jacob Hildreth stalled when he got a point for locking hands. Jacob put Cody in a basket cradle and just kept Cody there.

Cody Walls should have won that match. If you watched the 160 championship match he did the same thing except Austin Cooper is a lot taller and has longer arms and was able to put Jacob Hildreth on his back. When Austin did that Jacob Hildreth was pinned from my view.

I think that one of the biggest upsets was when Isaac Ervin beat Caleb Wood. It was an exciting match, and he ended up beating Chui in the 3rd place match.

harrison courtney beating pat banks in the finals at 145.....very big upset

How was this a "very big upset"? Hadn't they wrestled twice this year and each won a match?

chui beating caleb wood was also a big upset, beating him 10-0 and making his way to the 3rd place match, it was a big win for him after being upset by henry clay. The 119 3rd place match was really exciting, both wrestlers really gave it their all, going into double overtime, congradulations to both guys.

I was impressed with Ben Greco, South Oldham, 152lbs, beating: Wheeler, Hooper, Sanders and Valdez to finish 3rd. He came in ranked below those guys but stepped it up big time as a Sr. at state.

what about Ben Rust from CC getting beat by Jammie Kestner from JCHS ? That was an exciting match to watch. 5-4 was the final.

Yeah, that sucked real bad (if you were cheering for ben that is 8) ). Ben was winning that 4-0 .. controlled the whole match ... and got laterelled in the last minute on a single 5 pt move.

As they say, it aint over till the triple zeros light up. Although a senior, Ben got his 4th place medal last year at state as a Junior and has a very bright future ahead of him in whatever he chooses. Even though he lost the match, he's a winner.

There were a couple other very good wrestlers not finish at that class, Wasson and Butler. I was very surprised to see Wasson lose first round to the Anderson Co kid.

Kestner was a senior also, so it was good for him to win but bad for Ben to lose. Yeah, it was surprising to see Wasson lose to Carey from Anderson County, Carey wrestled very well. The match between him and Jammie Kestner was also an exciting match to watch. There were lots of throws and close ones for both wrestlers, but Carey came out on top with a lateral that pinned kestner with about a minute left in the third.

130was a very exciting weight class to watch @ the stae tourney, I was very surprised with all of the close and interzting matches to watch.

That class was very close after 3rd place or so. And congrats to Kestner by the way, wasn't trying to rain on things by any means or sour the mood !!

I was surprised as strong as Collins looked, never heard of him before state. He'd have done well if he hadn't lost his head.

Collins would have placed 4th or better in my opinion. He is a scrappy, athletic wrestler. Perry Central may not be well known, but they have produced some very solid wrestlers despite lacking in numbers.

What grade is the Perry Central kid in?

Collins is a Senior.
