Things I learned this weekend...

Topic ID: 575 | 7 Posts

1. Richards Starks keeps amazing me. Must be good to be their parents.

2. Ozzie Parker earned his title.

3. Harrison Courtney and John Wolsifer(sp) are crazy good and the future of the sport. Good guys too.

4. If Banks and Courtney wrestled 10 more times it would go 5-5!

5. Did people forget Coty Lewis was a two time runner-up? He left little doubt who the best wrestler was.

6. Derek Scott is a college wrestler now. Beast.

7. I'm just not interested in the 215 and HWY weight classes lately...kind of boring, sorry.

8. Sullivan is good, but would get pinned at 112.

9. I would of loved to see Murton wrestle someone good in this state. Good luck to him in college, he seems like a class act.

10. Wow! Woodford steps it up come state tournament time. There might never been a run like they've had over the last 17 years. 1-3 in state the last 17 years....

What did you learn?

1) The pressure at State is the most underated aspect of the competition.

2) State is the toughest competition all year because:

A) # of participants

B) Duration of the meet is gruelling

c) 3 days of weigh ins

3) Its easier to climb the stairs to the top of the convention center than it is to climb the never ending ramp.

4) I cant think of another facility that can match the convention center for this event.

And you have how many more years of this

Dont give up no matter who you are wrestling, no matter what the score is!

NEVER wrestle scared!!!

Wrestle every match like it is your last!

Never doubt the person your wrestling no matter how many times you have beatin them!

Show EVERY wrestler the same amount of respect(Joe Powers/Priscilla Longfield)!

Region 3 really can have a State Champ(Joe Powers)!!

Never have a losers attitude(Alot of people in region 3).

Never think that you cant beat someone!

Anyone can be beat(Mike Clark/Matt Byrd/Pat Banks/ Matt Mines)!!!

Take every thing 1 match at a time!! Never look past someone.

RESPECT all of your opponents!!

Show your class, not your a$$!!!!

You dont have to have good technique, know a lot of moves or hit any moves to perfection to be a wrestling state champion... as long as you have the endurance of a cross country state champion.

Nice job Murner, you deserved it.

-murton could be taken the distance, but by only one wrestler in state, to bad that match was in the semi's

-larue fans like to toss their glow sticks at woodford, and I am not even from woodford.

-just about everyone in the state hates woodfrod, but the kids that they wrestle in their region. It is nice to see kids in the same region pull for one another.

-did you see that monkey jump off lewis back this weekend.

-hard to belive but we had 3, three time state champs this weekend.

last, we need to have the top 4 seeded in this tournment

There is a very nice letter to the editor in the Lexington Herald Leader sports section today from a Harrison Co. mother about the lack of media attention and the Woodford Co. team.

It was a very thoughtful letter. I would like to thank her for publicly voicing an opinion that a lot of us share.

Thanks again.
