I am trying to start a wrestling program at a local high school which has never had one before. The administration is for it but they claim that assuming more males would participate that it would put the school over the Title IX limit. I am being told that Title IX is determinied by male participation vs. female participation and dance team and cheerleading does not count. Has anyone else come up with this problem and is there a solution?

Title nine should not be an issue. It is considered a co-ed sport and gives everyone an opportunity. I will ask some questions  and give you feed back soon.

The fact wrestling is co-ed should make it not an issue

I understand that it is a coed sport and that is what I told the administration. They are claiming it does not matter if it is a coed sport or not it matters on participation. So if you have equal number of sports for boys and girls there needs to be a ratio of boy participation vs girl participation. If you have a school of 400 and 300 boys play sports and 75 girls play and you add another sport where more boys will most likely play you will be out of the ratio. Maybe they are giving me the run around but I need some documentation from Title IX that this is not true.
