I had noticed that at state duals forfeits count for points. That's funny being that last year at state tournament forfeits did NOT count. It sure is funny (former youth president )how rules change. If we are going to make our sport grow (and not benefit some)we need rules that stay the same.

This has got to be a joke. Obviously, you either don't know what you are talking about, or are trying to give us a good laugh.

I don't get the joke... :? ...why would a forfeit count toward team points in an individual bracketed tourney. and why would they not count in a dual? :?
Forfeits count for team points in duals. Always have and always will. This is a competition between two FULL teams and all their weight classes. If a team does not have a weight class the other team benefits. Otherwise a team with one wrestler could win every dual, common sense here. :-o (especially if he is a wrestler like Brock Ervin) :-D
Tournaments are individual based. If a kid weighs in and then forfeits the team gets the team points. If it is a BYE then no team points are awarded. Remember not every kid qualifies for the state tourney, therefore most teams will not have complete teams there.
Hope this helps Jdsdad. Glad to have new parents in the sport who are paying attention and trying to learn the sport.
A FORFEIT normally means something has happened to the wrestler that was entered at a particular weight, for example, an injury or the wrestler was disqualified.
Otherwise it is called a BYE, as was previously stated, and no points are awarded (though advancement pts. are).
