Alot of teams have worked hard to get there and all of them should be proud of their accomplishment, that being said let the debating begin. Who's gonna win and who's your top 5?
State Duals

So which teams are participating
What format will be used to determine the pairing and when would that be available :?
I know the High School pairs is done that morning.
Here is the list so far of the teams that are in the State Duals and in no particular order :
1. Gray Middle
2. Twenhofel
3. Campbell Co
4. East Oldham
5. Union Co
6. North Hardin
7. Elkhorn
8. Johnson Co
9. Trinity
10. Woodford
11. River City or Anderson (Officer Vote Needed)
12. TBD Reg 1
The format is the same as last year with 4 pools of 3, true second place, and the pools will be drawn the morning of the tournament.
If your team has not confirmed yet, please do so asap.
How are the pools determined? "True 2nd", does that mean if the team that loses in finals didn't beat the team that got 3rd they will wrestle for 2nd?

No LaRue Middle School, now thats a first. Who is the rep from that Disrict/Region :|

That's how I understand it, then again that is the fair/best method. 8-)
Maybe fair, definitely anti climatic. A possible solution might be to take the top 2 teams from every district that way you get a 16 team State Dual. If you get 16 teams, couldn't you run it like a 16 man bracket? No disrespect to anybody that helped put it together (as always thankyou for all your hard work), merely just my opinion.
In the past we have tried to seed the top four teams as best we can.So which teams are participating

I know the High School pairs is done that morning.
Dagger, how do you seed it? What is it based on?
Head to head match up's, over all dual records :|
I imagine they try to seperate the strongest teams or at least the top 4-6 and draw the other three in?
We hosted state duals three years ago and this is how i determind the top five seeds.
You have to contact each coach and ask for seeding info on these two things before friday so you can have a bracket to start with. I was at the last two state duals and when we had the coaches meeting Brad Hagedorn UC 2008 and Tim Lange 2009 seeded it and the rest of the teams were draw in, so all we had to do was make sure all the coaches agreed with the pools. The seeding of the teams was fine with the coaches the one thing some of the unseeded teams asked for was to wrestle teams that they haven't wrestle this year.
1. Head to head duals. It didn't matter if a team won because the other team didn't have all there wrestlers. A win is a win.
2. Tournaments that teams participated in. Who placed higher in the same tournament.
It isn't hard to get the top teams if you contact the coaches and get there input.

North Hardin Middle
Actually it is at Cooper High School. How far is Cooper from Ryle?I believe Ryle is hosting the State Duals. Close to Cincy.

Larue looked very weak this year only sending 3 to state. Big drop off from the past few years.

I agree. Looking at some of the regional results I am amazed. There are no free rides to the state tournament any more at the MS level. I thought the whole district-region-state thing may have created a few loopholes for some kids to sneak through and the "power programs" to continue to fill the brackets, but what I have observed is the exact opposite. There will be many quality wrestlers sitting at home on Feb 6, 2010. Good news for the future of KY wrestling.
Mark Adams, lead forecaster with the Fort Knox weather station, estimated the area may receive 5-8 inches of snow. But meteorologists on Tuesday were uncertain about the system
In northern KY they are predicting a dusting thursday morning and thats it so i doubt northern KY schools will be closed.
The State Duals are still on in NKY at Cooper HS. The questionable weather in SW KY is predicted to see some snow on Friday. Here is the forcast for Union, KY from the NWS:
Friday: A slight chance of snow after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 24. Northeast wind between 7 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Friday Night: A chance of snow, mainly before 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 15. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 24.
Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 11.
Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 27.
If the schools in the effected areas close on Friday, we still plan on having the tournament. I Hope this helps.
:-)

Very true i thought that district 1 improved alot were it use to just be Union now University Heights and Trigg are having very successful kids. University Heights had 4 in the finals and 3 region champs. Were last year only 1 in the finals and he got teched if my memory is correct.
All this conversation is great, but let's hear some predictions!!!! This is the most wide open State Duals I have seen, it hard to pick a favorite.
The Middle School State Duals are still on and will be wrestled on 1/30/10. NKY is not forcasted to get more than a dusting of snow. It will be a great day of wrestling if all of the teams can make it.
Union County looks tough to beat if they can all make it, Johnson Co is tough along with Gray, Twenhofel and Campbell Co will all be in the mix for the top spot. If the other teams are on their A game it is a toss up for the top 4 teams. It will be interesting to see how much the snow effects travel and the tournament.
Ok so whos gonna win it? of course im pulling for the wofo tigers, but its been along time since ive seen how the state looks on the middle schoool level. Who is tough individualy and team wise?
Does anyone have an update to who is attending and the break down of the pools :?
Good Luck to all those that attended. :-D
Elkhorn was not allowed to go by the school system. I know Trinity was going. Those are the only ones I heard.
It is terrible that the kids work this hard and earn the right to go and don't get to compete for a state title. Given the conditions, why were the duals not rescheduled?
I don't think there is room left on the schedule for the duals. The middle school state tournament is next week. The week after is High School regionals and many of the best middle school wrestlers will be with them. It's just an unfortunate situation.

Any results or details of who attended :|
Union won it. Gray took second. Twenhoffel and Campbell battled it out for 3rd and 4th, not sure on who won that match up. Because of the weather situation south of Northern, KY, quite a few teams did not attend.
Paticipating teams:
Union, Gray, Twenhoffel, Campbell, Walton Verona, Trinity, Cooper & an all star team consisting of teams B guys.
1. Union County
2. Gray
3. Twenhofel
4. Campbell County
It's a shame that the weather did not allow some very good teams get here safely to compete today. There were some very good matches. The state tournament will be awesome this year with all of the great wrestlers that we currently have wrestling at this level. I can't wait until next Saturday!
Union dominated everyone yesterday. They looked very good & ready for next Saturday.
The Gray/Twenhofel match was very close in the semi's. Twenhofel should have won that match up. They started out really strong with Thomas Kloentrup defeating Michael Martin in overtime in the first match. All of the matches were very close & both teams wanted to win. I am not sure of the score. It had to be within a couple of points. Congrats to Gray on that win.
The third/fourth place final was just as exciting pitting Campbell County against Twenhofel. These two always battle hard & are very close at the end. I think Twenhofel won by 1 point. They beat them in the districts by 1/2 a point.
The trophy's are very nice as well as the individual medals.
"The Gray/Twenhofel match was very close in the semi's. Twenhofel should have won that match up."
Gray and Twenhofel have went head to head twice this year with Gray winning both. First dual was very lopsided. Twenhofel has a very good team and the second match up was very tight. However, there were two matches that I think would normaly go in favor of Gray that didn't go there way. Region 3 should be proud. Gray, Twenhofel and Campbell all wrestled very well. Congratulations to all the teams who participated. There were some great matches. It was a very enjoyable day of wrestling.

Thank you to all of the teams that participated. It was an abbreviated day, but none the less, it was a great day of wrestling. With the looks of Union Co's team, they are a class act and will be tough to beat next weekend.
Great Job to all teams and Thank you to all of our volunteers at the tournament.

Just my opinion, and i may be a little parchal, but North Hardin would have been in the mix this year.
North Hardin has a good team but they are not ready to compete for the top spot. Gray beat them in a pretty lopsided dual in the finals of Oldham Co. I dont think they could beat the top five here. The only contender that wasn't able to make the tourney was Johnson Central. Though I don't think anyone would have beat union. In the finals Gray gave 18 points in forfiets and had a couple toss up matches go the wrong way. With that said even on their best day I think Gray comes up short. Union is the team to beat next week.
What was the result between both Erdmens and Goshorn and Cline? Both I felt were upsets at Regionals. I wonder if both Erdmens came back and won.
At 82 Logan Erdman beat Goshorn 4-3 though it didn't really ever seam like the match was in jepardy. At 89 Jake Erdman beat Cline 8 or 9-1 with the 1pt escape given when Erdman cut him.

After the results at regionals, I was really looking forward to a Johnson Central\Elkhorn matchup. Two of the top 4 in the state and neither were able to come Saturday. I haven't seen Union Co. this year, but from what I saw, Johnson Central would have been tough to beat.
Cooper did a great job of hosting state duals. Congrats to them on a well run tournament. I wish everyone that qualified could have come. It would have been great to see all of the top teams from around the state and individuals. There were a lot of individual match ups saturday that are going to be first or second round matches at state. It will be interresting to see if the outcome is the same or the tables are turned.
Wanted to stress how much northern Kentucky appreicated the bravery of Union and Trinty to come a day early to State duels. I am guessing that other teams were worried about CC and Gray not to make the long haul. But being serious, Good job Cooper... Sorry for the poor planning from "other" Contending teams. I hope they at least teach the half....lol

I say thats a cheap shot at the teams that didn't attend, "worried about CC and Gray".
1 - Who didn't attend? :?
2 - Some teams may not have had an option; school administration may have made the call of no participation and or transportation.
3 - Some programs may not have the funding to make the over night trip. Hotels, meals, bus driver.
I guess Union and Trinity are very blessed to have the support and funding to come up a night before.
Don't take shots at kids that are upset they couldn't attend or the staff that wasn't allowed to attend.
I guess your team was one that did well because other teams could not attend
Did any of the teams that could not participate beat any off the top six teams? :|
Mike Honcho, hopefully you were joking about other teams being worried about Campbell and Gray. It wasn't poor planning by the coaches or kids, we can only do what our school boards allow. The way I see it, if all the contending teams made it Gray would not have been in the finals, and Campbell would not have taken fourth. This is not a knock against those teams or coaches, I have nothing but respect for them. No sour grapes here, the teams that made it deserve what they got and I congratulate them. But cocky comments such as yours are really not needed. Your teams got what they got, be proud, but don't think for a second anybody was "worried" about making it there to wrestle any of those teams. I got a feeling there were alot kids chomping at the bit from all over Ky to get there Saturday to see how they stacked up. Once again, congrats to all the teams that got to participate, and for those of you who didn't make it, go get you some at State. Good luck to all the teams.
D.W. Thank You for the positive remarks on behalf of the kids, coaches and parents that work so hard all season to have this event taken away from them due to weather.
One of the more positive posts I've read.
As a matter of fact, we beat Campbell, Cooper, Trinity, barely lost a close one with Twenhofel, and did not see Gray or Union so far this year.I say thats a cheap shot at the teams that didn't attend, "worried about CC and Gray".

DW, which team are you a member of? Which team do you think would have made the finals above Gray? After all the criteria was sent in for all the teams that qualified, Gray was the number one seed. Chances are they beat your team or a team that beat yours. The only teams that Gray didn't see that were invited were Elkhorn, Union and Johnson Central. As I stated in a previous post I think JC was the only contender who couldn't make the trip. I won't seculate what the result of a Gray - JC matchup would be since I haven't seen them. I will say I doubt any of the other teams would beat Gray in a dual.
