Pretty, Adams wins Greyhound Open titles

Topic ID: 6475 | 3 Posts

Tommy Pretty and Spencer Adams both picked up individual titles at the University of Indianapolis Greyhound Open on Sunday, one day after leading Campbellsville University to the first-ever Mid-South Conference Championship Saturday. Seven of the other nine CU wrestlers that competed in the Open also placed in the Top 5.

Pretty remained perfect for the week, taking down Purdue's Bill Putman, 7-3, in the first round of the 133-pound weight class Sunday. He followed up with a 7-0 decision over Lindsey Wilson's Ethan Miller to advance to the championship against the host school's Casey Kenney. Pretty collected his eighth pin of the season just 58 seconds into the match to beat Kenney and win the open.

Pretty (22-4) has now won six matches since falling from the top spot in the NAIA last Tuesday.

Adams was also perfect for the day Sunday, beating Tiger teammate Allen Scruggs, 5-0, to win the 184-pound weight class. Adams also beat fellow Tiger Phillip Oudhuis, 6-0, to advance to the final. Oudhuis went on to finish third in the weight class.

Johnny Papesh was second in the 125-pound class, falling 7-0 to Indiana University's Justin Brooks, while Scott Wern was second at 197, losing to University of the Cumberlands' Fredrick Byars, 5-3. Jeremiah Fennell was fourth at heavyweight, losing a 3-1 decision to Indiana University's Jowan Gill. Daphilo Succes and Derek Alsip each finished fifth at 133 pounds and 157 pounds, respectively.

KY boy Josh Ashbrook, formerly of Harrison County, also placed second at the Greyhound Open.  He lost to a wrestler from Indiana University in the finals at 174.

I believe that kid Ashbrook wrestled in the finals is undefeated in Division 1 wrestling, 16-0 with some big wins over tough kids.
