Wrestling for a state championship against your teammate

Topic ID: 6633 | 5 Posts

It looks like Oregon allows you to enter two wrestlers in the same weight class into the state championship. I tried to find out how you would have to qualify and it appears just to be top 3 of each district/region, however, I couldn't find out how many wrestlers a team can enter. I know the NAIA championships allow you to enter 12 wrestlers but no more than 2 in a weight class. I imagine in Oregon, you may enter 14 wrestlers, and no more than 2 in a weight class.

Here's the video of these two men wrestling for the state championship:

What do you think of allowing 14 wrestlers to compete in a tournament (max of 2 in a class)?

It may help some of the smaller schools.  Those who have maybe 6-10 kids and a couple of them are in the same wt. class.

however,  It could make some brackets extra large.

I've been to Oregon and believe me it's screwed up enough tohave something like this

In Alaska we could enter 2 wrestlers from 1 school in each weight class at regions. Top 3 went to state so if both qualified then they could have a chance of being in the state finals against each other.

It actually worked pretty good that way because some of the JV wrestlers can beat varsity wrestlers from other schools so they actually got a chance to do that.

Yeah, but we're already going to a 2 day tournament for a number of regions already.
