Old man winter is suppossed to cooperate this year, and i do know that State Duals will go off unless the world ends in a volcanic eruption. So lets get some discussion going: Who wins?? Who plays spoiler?

I think Union, LaRue, and Trinity are favorites with Ryle, Johnson Central, and quite possibly Oldham playing spoiler. thoughts??

How about a list of teams going ?

Spoiler?  I going with weather.

No weather this year the "curse of Ryle" has been officially lifted

List of Teams:

Union Co.      Christian Co.      LaRue Co.  Central Hardin

Johnson Central  Whitley Co.  Woodford Co.  Lafayette

Trinty  St.X  Eastern  Oldham Co.

Ryle  Campbell Co.  Southern  Meade Co.

I think LaRue will win it.  It could go either way with the top 5 teams though (Trinity, LaRue, Union, Ryle, and Johnson Central).  Spoilers to come out of the pool instead of one of these teams would be Southern or Oldham.  Every team at State Duals is there because they have talent on the team, so it will be interesting to see how the pools are drawn and how people match-up.  Two of the "top 5 teams" are going to have to wrestle the other within the pool.

what do u guys see the placements of all the teams being? in order 1st-16th?

I extracted some of the names from the teams participating this weekend from Ranger's rankings.  I know some people are in different weight classes, but it looks like some very good matchups are in store for this weekend:

ohh gosh yea a ton of good matchups , what do u personally think the top 8 teams will be?

I was told that Ohio County was going not Christian County

You might be right about Ohio Co.

You might be right about Ohio Co.

The 3 teams that were considered to go were Union County, Ohio County, and Fort Campbell

It was decided that although we had qualified for a state dual that never happened Ohio had beaten us and won the vote. Both teams have wins over Christian County

where is state duals being helt this weekend?

i would assume Henry Clay i believe thats where it is held every year not 100percent tho

it is

I thought this would be a bit of an off year for Ryle after loosing a few State Champs to graduation but they have proven themselves this year with wins at the Rumble and great showings at SWOCA and GMVWA in Ohio. Trininty looked really good at the Dragon. Union is stacked agin this year after adding Blackwel and Carr. Its a toss up for first with these three teams. Johnson Centeral and Larue both are capable of coming in and stealing it away from the other three. I am going with:

Union Co

Ryle

Trinity

Johnson Centeral

Larue.. But, I wouldn't be surprised by the top five shaking out in any order. Good luck to all

Ryle will have to fight to get out of a pool.

They are the 2nd seed from Region 6.  Campbell beat them at the NKAC when the seeds were decided.

Campbell beat Ryle's JV team.  They wrestled the varsity last week and it was a different story and you know better GOO

Olddie:

That is true but Ryle was beat when the seed was decided.  And CC was missing 3 wrestlers the second time they wreslted.  Not sure if that would matter but the fact stands that when the seeds were decided for the region, CC beat the team Ryle decided to send out there.

No different than if the week after NKAC Ryle or Campbell would have lost to SK in a dual. SK would still have not went to state duals.

I was just pointing out that Ryle will have to beat 1 tough team just to get out of there pool.  That makes it a little tougher on therm.

If they seed the second teer then they should get the weakest 1 seed.

GOO - When did they start seeding this before the morning of?

yes there is a seed meeting that Saturday morning and I'm sure Ryle would love  to be the #2 seed in the same pool with #1 seed Campbell co.

back in 2004 or 2005. I think the year after South Oldham had only 1 team score in the double digits on them in an in-state dual (pretty sure it was LaRue who lost in the pool matches). They've seeded top 4 or 5 ever since.

and yes, Ryle can't be seeded, but they also CAN'T be in the same pool/side of the bracket with Campbell. Which means they will probably have to go through LaRue, Johnson Central, Union or Trinity to even place top 4. Whoever draws Ryle is going to have a KILLER pool saturday!

GOO is correct. It does not matter which (Varsity or JV) team wrestled that day. That was the day set by the region to determine who goes. Since Ryle sent their JV team and finished 2nd, they will be drawn in as a 2. A very good 2...but a 2.

So there are 8 #1 seeds and 8 #2 seeds, I don't get it.

The bottom line is to win this thing you have to beat the other teams anyway.  You can't seed your way to 1st place

Very true Oldie:

But whoever is in the pool with Ryle and the seeded team (either Larue, Trinity, JC, or UC) will have a long day ahead of them.

Thats a tough pool to come out of.  It would be a shame if Ryle pools Trinity or UC in their pool.

I am sure all the other teams feel the same about being in the same pools with union or trinity and that it would be a shame. My bigger question is if that match to determ the seed was that important, why did ryle wrestle the jv kids? Surely they knew that was going to be the match for the 1 seed at state duals....

Ryle goes to a large Ohio tournament that weekend.  There has been deate a few years now about trying to change the date.  Simon Kenton also went to this tournament and sent their JV to the conferance

If they seed the second teer then they should get the weakest 1 seed.

With Ryle not even being the top seed out of its region, why do you think it should be a No. 1 at State Duals?

Don't they seed the top 4 #1 seeds there are and then throw in everyone else, while keeping regional opponents on the opposite side of the bracket?

1st- Trinity

2nd- Union County

3rd- Larue County

4th- Ryle

5th- Johnson Central

6th-  Oldham County

7th- St. X

8th- Southern

Uh Oh  some snow on the ground and school delays  this am in Northern Ky.  what about the rest of the state?

Jefferson County is on a normal schedule today, I think the first time in the last three years.

St. X and Trinity can't both be #1 seeds.  Lafayette or Woodford have to be one of the #1 seeds.  None of it really matters.  The top 4 teams will be seeded...possibly a 5th and the rest of the teams will be drawn in and kept on opposite sides of the bracket.  Trinity, Union, LaRue, and Johnson Central will most likely be the #1's in that order.

Let me throw this out for consideration.  According to the state dual guidelines the coaches have developed over the past few years (yep, all written down and sent out to each coach attending each year) the seeds are based on records and head to head competition.  What does this mean?  Union has a loss, to Trinity, LaRue and Johnson Central have no losses.  So based on the criteria for seeding, the number one seed will most likely be Trinity since they have a win over a top team, the second and third seeds will be LaRue and Johnson Central and who cares in what order as 2 and 3 gains no advantage and if they win their pools they meet in semis, and the 4th seed is Union.  So, most likely, Union and Trinity meet in semis if they win their pools.

The real fun will be after the top four teams are seeded and "The Pill Bottle" comes out.  That is when the rest of the teams are placed in pools.  Since Ryle and St. X are #2's out of their regions, they are going into a pool with either, LaRue, Johnson Centrl and Union and Ryle could go with Trinity.

Just like the individual state touranment, so much will be decided upon the luck of the draw!

Big Coach, you have the Trinity vs. Union result wrong.  Union beat Trinity by 3 @ the Harrison duals in December.

Yeh union beat trinity back a while ago when both trams were missing quite a few wrestlers

Oops, then reverse that, Union would be the one and Trinity the 4 seed.

Big Coach, why are you assuming that Trinity could not be the #2 or #3 seed?  A loss to the #1 seed would not prohibit Trinity being #2.  The only head to head is Trinity vs. Union.  The last head to head between Trinity and Larue or Johnson Central was at the state tournament last year.  Trinity finished 100 pts ahead of Larue and Johnson Central.  I say Union #1, Trinity #2, Larue #3, and Johnson Central #4.

When do they draw the brackets?

Does anyone know the start time and if they have a time scheduled for the finals?

The brackets will be drawn in the morning. Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 9:30 with finals starting at 7:30.

LaRue and Johnson Central, I believe, are both undefeated in duals whereas Trinity is not (someone correct me if I'm wrong). Overall record is one of the seeding criteria. Based on that, LaRue and Johnson Central should be seeded above Trinity.

And it shouldn't matter what happened last season. It's about what you've done this season. The individual state tournament should have no bearing on seeding for the duals.

LaRue County beats Union County to move into the finals. Against who, I'm not sure yet.

what was the match by match results?

40-28 LaRue

Union gets fourth losing to Ryle 38-36. Missing Keaton Thomas was big time today for the braves.

Union lost to larue in the semis 40-35

what was the match by match results?

I don't have any results yet.

Meade Co. 215 Simota pined Shamon Brown today at state duals.

Your 2011 State Duals champs: LaRue County.

breeser: Shouldn't that be on the rankings thread?

Congrats Larue County!  :-D

J Claywell Im just sharing a good match, so I think its right where I wanted it. Thanks

Congrat's Coach Canter & Team..

J Claywell Im just sharing a good match, so I think its right where I wanted it. Thanks

OK. Wasn't sure. I thought they were closer in the rankings, and thought you were making a case for Simota to be ranked higher than Brown.

any notable matchups? only good one i heard was ahern over burke. what were some of the other top matchups?

Wurth (union) beat Paden (Larue). I think Paden beat Fahy by 1 next match?

Id like to see actual results....How many teams did Region 1 bring....Union County and who else?

Union gets fourth losing to Ryle 38-36. Missing Keaton Thomas was big time today for the braves.

Union missed more than just Keaton yesterday!!

Ohio County was there. Blackwell avenged his loss (last year at state) to Rearic from Lafayette 8-1 I believe. I don't have access to a score book for results. Ray (Larue) was looking pretty beastly.

Union missed more than just Keaton yesterday!!

Yeah they did, but if they had him, it could've been a different story for the Larue match. Not much excuses, Larue wrestled tough. Would like to see Union field a full squad for at least one tournament this year. From my understanding, at least one of their studs have been out each weekend.

I spoke to Robert Ervin yesterday and he told me they where missing 3 of there starters at Duals.  I think things may have been a little diff if they had there full team.. maybe not?  never know.

All the top contenders had holes in their line-ups. Some permanent like LaRue (215) and JC(103&125) some temporary-Trinity and UC that should be full strength in Frankfort.

Ryle seemed to be in the best position from that stand point.

Give it up to LaRue for putting themselves in a position to have success when the opportunity presented itself.

State is wide open this year. Who is putting themselves in a position for taking the title this year? Next few weeks is separation time from pretenders to contenders.

135, 140, and 145 were missing. Gabe is out for the season (125)

135, 140, and 145 were missing. Gabe is out for the season (125)

WOW!!! Gabe is out for the season. I hate to hear that about a great kid. What exactly happened?

Not sure. But heard it had something to do with a compound fracture in his back

Yes it was his back per Robert..

Hope Gabe recovers 100% he is a great wrestler.

Gotta give it up to larue for fighting through.

There were a lot of shakeups, looks like state will be great!

Gabe got into a motorcycle accident and broke something in his back

Id like to see actual results....How many teams did Region 1 bring....Union County and who else?

The top two teams in each region qualify for the duals.

whats up with woodford? they are really down this year.. ive heard they have alot of young guys coming up next year. that should help, but who knows...and only 3 seniors...maybe a big turnaround in their future (let's hope).

What's up with woodford? Just from an outsider looking in it seems that since coach parks stepped away they have just not been the same. } take nothing from both of the carrs, they have all my respect and have nothing to prove to anyone, just think that possibly coach parks brought more to the program then we see just on the mat. Woodford is a great program though, they will most likey be back around soon, great programs always find a way of not staying down long. And second in a tough region is not exactly a total collapse. Good luck to them, great programs build the whole region.

fireplug I have said it since coach Parks left.  He was the glue or the mortar at Woodford.  Parks by himself could not do the job but without him they seem to fall apart.  Seems that he did a lot of behind the scene motivation.  Joe and Joe have the technical part down to almost perfection however Parks was able to put it all together.

As I said The Carr's are great technical coaches maybe the best in the state and I would love to have Jr. learn some things from them.  However without motivation teams don't seem to be able to put them together.

GOO - i would also factor in the impact all the hard work of youth and middle school programs that Woodford and a few of the traditional powerhouse programs fell behind on a few years back.  Woodford & Campbell are 2 that come to mind that let schools like Fern Creek (Trinity), Larue, Union, & Ryle build really far superior feeder programs.  I'd say the Carr's are fine, but they haven't had the same material to work with that some of these other programs have.  Campbell & Woodford have caught on, but they're still playing catch up.

pioneer pride, i thought you died. good to see you back in the forums. pm me when you get a chance. your observations of woodford are dead on, its all about the middle school programs. thankfully ky has advanced to a level that you can no longer win with wrestlers that have only 2 yrs experience.

A notable match at state duals was at 119 Kenny Richardson #27 upsetting #7 Matt Fahy 11-9 I think the score was.

I also argee the feeder programs and ky wrestling as a whole is coming a long way. I think were woodford had an edge in feeders before, now more are on the same track and even progressing beyond what they did in the past. Just this yr trinity and union placed in top three at mater dae, and lafayette 2nd at ben davis in indianapolis. Results like this were not seen 5-!0 yrs ago. Pat on the back for ky wrestling as a whole

Not dead, more like a wrestling coma.  I've been a lurker on the website, but without a dog in the fight anymore, I can just relax and watch other people argue from now on.  :-)

i saw another parks is there at woodford now. maybe a new parks/ carr dynasty in the making?? that would be pretty cool for the state of kentucky

Probably Rusty or Shane helping out.

Probably Rusty or Shane helping out.

Rusty is an official paid coach this year.

The Hurst boys (one in HS and one in MS) are cousins of the Parks'....so the lineage contiues.

I ran into both parks boys last night in lexington. Best of luck to Rusty and WoFoCo.

Hey pioneer.  Check out the last couple years of youth and middle school results.  I think we are doing just fine.
