RIP Doug Blubaugh

Topic ID: 7710 | 6 Posts

The wrestling community suffered a great loss last week when former NCAA champion and Olympic Gold Medalist Doug BluBAugh was struck and killed while on a Motorcycle on 5/16/2011. For us "old timers" who ever attended a Blubaough clinic (I had that opportunity several times when he was at Ohio State)he was a grat clinician and very entertaining to listen to. He will be missed

I just heard about this unfortunate accident this a couple of days ago.

I attended his camp while in high school and attended several of his clinics later.

He was a great person and would help anyone who needed it. If you ever needed someone to help you with a camp or clinic for wrestling he would either do it himself of find someone for you.

He will be missed.

GOO out.

RIP Coach Blubaugh!

Attended his "Top of the World" camp while in high school, great coach and better wrestler!

1960 Olympic Gold - got to see the video of his gold medal match, it was a very grainy black and white. It seems like they wrestled on something other than a mat like they use today, might have been sand, it was hard to tell, but no doubt about it, he still looked like a beast.

I met Doug Blubaugh just a couple years ago while at a camp at Oklahoma State. He talked to a lot of the campers about how he won his Gold medal. Then afterwards he stayed to talk to some of the campers 1 on 1 and signed autographs and such, it was a great experiance.

This is a sad day for me. PM me for one of the greatest quotes ever.

I remember meeting Coach Blubaugh back in 2007 at the Big Ten Wrestling Tournament. He pulled one of his old olympic cards out of his pocket, signed it and gave it right to me.
