The Middle School List - Preseason 2011/2012

Topic ID: 7921 | 52 Posts

Okay, you asked for it, you got it. First, my caveats. These kids grow a ton every year, so these are my best estimates on weight (although I know some much better than others). We also did not get the grades for the middle school kids in last season's bracket, so I'm not sure who exactly is returning. Most of the kids listed here were state placers last season. I have included a few others who I know were contenders as well. If I have missed anyone I'm sure you will let me know.

70 Contenders: Brooks (Oldham Co)

I don't see any of the top kids back at this weight class; Brooks was competitive here last season

75 Favorite: Roth (Walton)

Contenders: Wise (East Oldham), Yenter (Campbell Co), Roberts (Woodford Co)

80 Favorite: Ervin (Union)

Contenders: Moore (Campbell Co), Fallon (Woodford Co), Metcalf (Larue Co)

86 Favorite: Sheffer (Union)

Contenders: Wells (Campbell Co), Martin (Walton), Golden (Ryle), Jacobs (Elkhorn), Siddens (Moore)

92 Favorite: Bindner (River City)

Contenders: Kraezig (River City), Gray (Caldwell Co)

98 Favorites: Wiley (Conner)

Contenders: Oxford (Union Co), Hurst (Woodford Co), Barton (Trinity), Putty (Blazer), Ward (Owensboro)

105 Favorite: Erdman (Ryle)

Contenders: Heidorf (North Oldham), Blanton (Johnson Co), Meyer (Walton)

113 Favorite: Smith (Union)

Contenders: Spahr (Campbell Co), Kline (Trigg Co), Emerson (OIdham Co)

121 Favorite: Duncan (North Oldham)

130 Contender: Rich (Ryle)

140 Favorite: Frankrone (River City)

Contender: Oxford (Union)

152 Favorite: Meiman (Ryle)

Contender: Calhoun (Rivery City)

168 ???

190 Favorite: McIntosh (Oldham Co)

Contenders: Graziani (Campbell Co)

230 ???

Cobe Calhoun from River City will be a definite contender remaining at 152, won 1st in district 3 (only second year wrestling) beating state 2nd placer Bradley Miller-Crosby. Unfortunately for him at state last year he had to face 1st placer Eli Matthews-C.C. and 3rd placer Mason Ray-Larue Co. (who I think might have actually gotten 2nd if we wrestled back for 2nd place) in back to back matches. He was also a placer at the Ohio Tournament of Champions, a tournament where only a little over a handful of wrestlers representing KY placed out of around 70 entries.

Jacobs should be on this list somewere. Not sure what he weighs.

I just realized I left him off. Was debating what weight to put him at and completely forgot. Added him now.

This would be an amazing battle with Erdman, Wiley, and Heidorf all together. All of these guys could be competing for their high school teams all season and may or may not show up at Montgomery Co.

113 Favorite: Smith (Union)

Contenders: Spahr (Campbell Co), Kline (Trigg Co), Emerson (OIdham Co)

121 Favorite: Duncan (North Oldham)

Bindner will not be at North Oldham this year,he will be at Rivercity.Ranger French Golden is a fresh. this year.

Duncan is a Freshman this yearI believe.

Keegan Duncan is registered at Super32 as an 8th grader. Bindner also registered from North Oldham. Is he switching teams again?

From what I have heard Binder will be with River City this season. That was the word when he went to the Jeff Jordan camp with other members of the team.

Aj Bindner , Logan Erdman & Keegan Duncan are all 8th graders and registered for Super 32. Aj is again with River City.

Wiley is wrestling Varsity for Conner but he only weigh's roughly 97 pounds. So he will be wrestling 98 at Middle School, and wont be cutting any weight.

So, that probably means Wiley would move into the top spot at 98.

hopefully wiley and bindner will go the same weight class That will be fun to watch.

That's where I would have guessed Wiley to be. I know AJ walks around about the same (96.5). I gaurantee this won't be a repeat of last years finals. I predict it will be just like last years first match. Can't wait to see it. Theyre both great wrestlers and great kids. Just stinks...someone is going to end up second best, unless one of them drops down for state.

By the way...don't count out Tucker Hurst. If he's at 98, I think he'll be big for the weight and is very tough. Although I have no idea what he's weighing. Barton I would guess is in the 105 range. He looked like he grew a lot from State to Team Kentucky workouts. Putty's good as well. 98 is going to be tough.

Doesn't look sound like Wiley is dropping.

Doesn't look sound like Wiley is dropping.

Don't sound that way if he's wrestling HS.

good luck to the 7 kids from ky going to super32.All are on rangers list.great to see more kids starting early

Hey Ranger...French Golden is a Freshman.

It'll be interesting who ends up competing for that 130 spot. I believe David Rich is an 8th grader. Have no idea how much he's grown. I think he's under achieved the last couple years. I'd like to see him step it up this year. Any one else know who might be a 130?

Ben Thome from North Oldham will be tough he got injured last year. I do believe if Frankrone Could make it he would walk through it but i dont see him making it Anyone know how much he weights? David rich i think is better then what hes putting out at state i would like to see him win it this year as well great kid

@ nkw2k11, Frankrone is walking around a little over 140 right now. Just curious, who are you saying that you think wouldn't make it this season?? Thome or Frankrone? Just curious!

I read it as he doesn't think Tyler is going to be 130 lbs.

@ nkw2k11, Frankrone is walking around a little over 140 right now. Just curious, who are you saying that you think wouldn't make it this season?? Thome or Frankrone? Just curious!

what i was saying was i dont think frankrone will make weight class 130 but if he did he would walk through it lol thats what i meant to say thanks for letting us know that hes now in the 140s

I seen Meiman listed as 160 under the preseason high school rankings. So would this put him at 168 for middle school?

i would definatly put Alex McIntosh up there from oldham county because he wretled for the bluegrass wariors and and tech falled calhune so if he can beat calhune he should be up there.....Plus! he was a state runner up last year at 165

Calhoun will be wrestling at 152 not 168. Frankrone will be at 140 not 130. And yes Binder will be with River City. But you are right McIntosh should definitely be on the list.

I think Meiman, is going 152 in high school, David Rich will probably go 130. He has gotten alot stronger during football season. I don't see anyone giving Meiman any problems in middle school.

Sorry. I didn't understand what was being asked!

Landon Young at 220 from Lafayette is going to be a beast in Middle School.....8th grader will get plenty of Varsity competition before Middle School State.....can make both Middle and High School in Region 7.....also Angel Vasquez at 113/120 and Justin Torgeson 106/113 are looking real good this year !

Ranger,

Seems like a great list - thanks for going to the trouble. Seems like a lot of returning placers this year, glad to see that.

What about team rankings? Anyone with an opinion?

ok you asked for it....

1. Rivercity- If this team is as good as they look on paper they will smoke everyone with Frankrone, Bindner, Calhoun, Kraezig and some other placers as well

2. North Oldham Heidorf and Duncan, possibly some other placers

3. Cambell county- Wells, and yenter will make some noise

4. Union County- Sheffer, Chance oxford, Jackson Oxford and Ervin

5. Walton Verona- This team has a couple of kids that could make a run at state.

Thats all I know fellas hope I helped!

also another team will be oldham county this year. Brooks at 70,Emerson at 113 and McIntosh at 168 and also Max Emerson too,at 152 should be a contender

Let's not forget who won the whole thing last year. I realize the Raiders lost a state finalist and state champ but they still have 2 returning state champs, and a state placer and some potentially high placers returning in Farwick, Komjathy and a few other talented kids that could possibly place. I'm not predicting Raiders will repeat, but I think they could be top 5 or so.

What Raiders? I'm pretty sure Campbell County won duals and individual school and Gray won individual club last year. I thought C.C. mascot was Camels, and Gray were Gators.

Raider Wrestling Club formerly Gray were the club and overall state champs. You're not going to argue that are you? You can go to KYSWA.org and look at the score. I'm just saying they'll be one of the top teams in the state.

If it wasn't for a technicality on the tiebraker with North Hardin, Gray might have won the State Duals as well. My point is they havent lost their entire team from last year and I believe they'll be one of the better teams this year as well.

Cant say I was arguing anything in the first place. Had I known there was a name change maybe there would have been no question about it but we didnt get the memo down here in Louisville.

Yes, whoever doesn't know, Gray has changed their name for consistency reasons to tie into their high school team and break away from Gray Middle School completely. I thought it was interesting that Nkw2k11 didn't mention them as a top team this year. I think that Campbell and Raider Wrestling would be a very competitive dual this year.

Union has 5 kids that finished top 3 returning ,3 were in finals .I could see 8 placers .

Raider will b tough as well I know I didnt mention them but i dont think there good enough to be in the top three maybe 4th or 5th. As far as union goes yes there tough but i see rivercity having 8 placers as well. It will be a good battle at state duals. Not arguing Grey was a great team they were, but I dont see them winning it as you said Pin And Win. Agreed with what you said but still belive its North oldham and Rivercity who are the ones to beat.

How about Christian County? They looked tough last year, I just don't know if they are returning anyone.

After watching the Raiders this weekend, I would not keep them out of contention with River City, Walton, Campbell Co and Union for the top spot. All four teams will be fighting it out for the spot on the podium and to see who take home the hardware. It will be fun to see so many strong teams at the top.

five

Oldham county looked tough today

Anyone have any updates? Potential contendors, or weight class updates?

It is very early and I've only been to 2 tournaments but since there isn't anyone listed at 168 I'll throw a couple kids out there, The returning placer for Oldham Co. looks good and so does the returning state qualifier for Elkhorn, not sure of both of their names. I think they met at Summit View and Oldham won on points but they both look tough this early in the season.

As far as weight class updates, I'd say plenty of kids will be dropping once the 2lb allowance kicks in so anything they have been wrestling isn't likely an indicator of where they will be come District time.

Barton, (Shamrock Club) beat Heidorf (North Oldham) last week. There's a move-in from Oregon at Oldham, Tarrin Pulley(sp?) that will challenge Binder (River City). OC and NO looking plenty tough in the early season. River City is dominating.

Taran Floyd. Originally from OC but spent the last 3 years in Oregon. Very tough kid and we should see some great things from him this year.

I don't know if AJ even knows what weight he'll go for state. If he goes 92, I don't think he'll have much trouble. At 98, I think he's got a great shot. I know he's worked his tail off this past off season. I'm not saying he cant be beat, but they better be on their A game. It would take a lot to deny him this year. Just my opinion of course.

I Think Bindner is going to run the tables at either weight. I watched him up at super 32 this year, he looks unbeatable, but there are some tough kids at 98, Bindner is ranked as favorite for 92, Which weight will he go? I cant wait to see what happens at state this year and how some kids come back after either a win or loss, I think jackoson oxford is looking awesome as well, him and Frankrone will be a fun one to watch. I dont know much about kids from the louisville area being that im a northern kid of guy ;)

Bindner will go whatever weight the Coaches from Rivercity want him to go.He is in the middle of 92 and 98.(unless he hits a growth spurt, and I don't see that happening, lol).I will say after watching the first week of the season I can't wait to see all the little guys from Rivercity,Walton,CC,and Union go at it. All are stacked with great small wrestlers.

Does anyone know if there are any middle school tournaments on Decmeber 10th that could still accept a team? I am with the Five Star club that is affiliated with Lafayette in Lexington. We thought we had a tournament scheduled but it did not work out and we somewhere to go. Please let me know as soon as possible.

i dont know much about him but what about chase highlander.
