I know that everyone does there best to make things as fair as possible, and I am in no way criticizing the way things are run. But sometimes I guess the luck of the draw comes into factor at the state tournament. There have been times when I have felt the top two contendors have ended up on the same side of the bracket, but at the end they actually end up placing 1st and 3rd instead of 1st and 2nd. I've only been aroud youth wrestling for a couple of years now and am probably still naive to alot of the issues (one reason I love the forum), anyone have the answer as to why we don't wrestle back for 2nd?
Why not wrestle back for 2nd place?

A couple of thoughts...
First, the timing of our state tournament would make it tough to pull off a true second. We already finish pretty late in the night. Second, it would be sort of weird to have a huge buildup for the finals and then wrestle a couple matches after the finals. The solution it to seed the state tournament. This has been a topic of conversation on this board for the high school for a number of years. Probably will never happen. There are pros and cons.
It is a very long day for all involved...especially the kids. Seeding would be the answer and solve this issue. Besides being a fiasco and a nightmare to do, why else could this not happen at the MS State Tourney?
Not sure how my last post shrunk like that.

With the extra weekend between region and state (state duals) for MS, it would be much easier logistically. But there is less need given the MS setup. If the 2 best kids are in the same region, then they don't meet until the finals anyway. If in different regions, then they won't meet until semis. My issue with the HS setup is that the best kids could meet in the quarters. With that possibility, in addition to the semis, there is a highler possibility of the great match happening early. But to answer your question, it could happen for the MS state, but I have no idea what the interest is in doing it.
Officials are also now paid BY THE HOUR starting this season. I seriously doubt tournament directors want to pay for the additional time that it would take to wrestle those matches.
Here is the EXACT wording from the KHSAA Web-site: "Tournaments: $25 per mat, per official, per hour, with a minimum of $175 per official."
