State Duals Contender Match-up Results

Topic ID: 8168 | 6 Posts

Surprised there hasnt been more talk and info about some of the very good "contender" match ups last Saturday. Post some scores and results if you have any.

Here are a few I saw

Smith-Duncan Duncan by 1 still dont know how Smith lost that one Kuddos the both guys

Kraezig - Wells Kraezig in ot

Yenter - Pledger Yenter 3-0

Pledger - Horton Pledger 2-0

Tucker - Pledger Tucker by 3 or 4

Tucker - Horton Tucker by 3

The back and forth excitment between River City and Campbell Co was insane.

Those are the one I saw from where I was sitting. Seen the Duncan-Smith match during a break in main gym.

What was the score between Campbell and River City?

43-30 if I am not mistaken. Campbell took a big lead on the heavyweights and the first two lighter weights. Then RC closed the gap quickly with Kraesig, Cook, Binder and Miles all winning.

Eventually cut the lead to 1 with two matches to go, Campbell gets a fall to clinch, then another fall for the icing. Was pretty intense and fun to watch. Wrong team won, (just kidding) but it was fun to be a part of.

As it does in duals, it came down to falls versus decisions. RC has three wrestlers on the varsity in the heavier weights, that are first year kids, and they were overmatched with the competition. The 190 starter actually weighs 160 something. Those higher weights have been the concern all season.

Campbell got us twice this year. They are good and earned their championship. Much respect from River City.

right on granby. it was a pretty intense battle. with the competition level of KY middle school wrestling now, it really takes a complete team effort to win the duals. Even with 4 or 5 studs, it won't get the job done without help from all 15 guys. And maybe even more than 15 to get you through all 4 rounds. I like to have 18 or so guys available for that day.

Ranger123...you're right. It definitely takes a full team to make win a State Dual title these days. I continueto be impressed with how the level of wreestling has picked up in middle school this year. The key thing is keeping them in the game and interested so they learn to love the sport and want to continue on and get better each year. Great job to everyone involved.

One of the heavyweights is a 190 lb 6th grader
