Topic ID: 8358 | 9 Posts

Just a reminder about the 2nd Annual KWOA Spring Classic, which will be held next Saturday March 10 at Central Hardin High School. All ages groups are eligible to participate this year (Peewee-Junior). This will be the first of 3 Tournaments for the KY Belt Series. All wrestlers are eligible to attend and out of state wrestlers are also welcome. We are looking to have a great turnout. If you are interested in conducting a remote weigh-in, please let me know. The flyer, registration, & information on the Belt Series are attached. Please contact me with any questions or have any wrestlers/parents contact me as well.

Thanks

The KY USAW Belt Series Folkstyle Rules of Participation.doc

As far as the belts go. There are eight divisions so there are eight belts. In the novice division there are 15 weight classes. What happens if more than one kid it that division has three 1st place finishes(45 pts)?

Any results?

How was the turnout? Last year there was only one kid in my sons weight /age group.

The turnout was pretty good. Not sure of the numbers but it looked to be a decent turnout.

As for the belts I'm not sure how there doing it. But I think they have a belt for each weight class in each division. They had the belts there at the tourney and they were more than 8 belts there. So I think it is for each weight class in each division but I could be wrong.

297 wrestlers participated. We had wrestlers from KY, IN, TN, & OH. The Schoolboy-Junior divisions were packed. Junior 170 was a stacked weight with Caleb Canter, Wyatt Courtney, Wade Holtsclaw, & TN placer Blake Soloman. I will try to get results posted by the end of the week. The KWOA would like to thank all who participated in this event.

Very well run tournament. We started at 1:00 and had first place medal in hand by 3:00. Only had 6 in our weight class but 3 matches in 2 hours is great. We had 4 matches in 8 hours at Indy Nationals.

There will be 9 Divisions (Midget, Bantam, Intermediate, Novice, Schoolboy, Cadet, Junior, University, & Senior/Open). Wrestlers compete to win the division belt by accumulating the greatest number of possible points (45 pts.) + Bonus points from the 3 tournaments Belt Series.

Wrestlers score points by placing in the top 4 at each of the individual tournaments. The scoring system will be as follows:

1st place = 15 pts

2nd place = 12 pts

3rd place = 9 pts

4th place = 7 pts

(A contestant that has no opponents in their particular weight class will only accumulate 6 points) Participants will have the opportunity to wrestle up or down to get a match if there are no other opponents in your weight class if available.

A wrestler cannot get more than 1 set of points for wrestling in a weight class that he/she has bumps up or a contestant that has no opponents in their particular weight class will only accumulate 6 points. A wrestler cannot accumulate both.

Bonus points will be given to assist with the scoring, and the possibility of many same place finishes within a division. The championship/finals match will consist of bonus points as follows:

Pin – 2 points

Tech fall – 1.5 points

Major decision- 1.0 points

Decision - 0 points

If a tie remains after bonus points, than the fastest pin in the final match will be considered, etc.

Great idea to promote participation! However, the above info would have been nice to know before the series began.
