Central Listing for Tournaments

I'm very glad we found this forum. This was my son's first year wrestling, so we are totally new to all of this. He absolutely loves wrestling and has a crazy work ethic for a nine year old, daily workouts and practicing year round. He wants to attend at least one tournament a week next season. The problem for us is that we never know about any KY youth events until a week or two ahead of time. This makes it extremely difficult to plan out a schedule for the season. Is there any way that we, as a state, can list all youth events on a single website? I have seen several other states do this, and I think it would make planning for the season much easier. Just a thought. I'd love to hear your input.

Check out CYW in Cincinnati. You can easily make a full schedule with their events. I am not aware of many in KY. Raider youth does a good one in early December (i think) and North Oldham had a good one in late December last year.

We can definitely make a full schedule of out of state events, but we would love to hit as many in state as possible and see them begin to grow. Last year there seemed to be one every week or two in KY (Meade County, Fern Creek, Nelson County, others in Louisville and Lexington/Richmond); some were small, but I bet they would grow if we had a website like what CYW, ISWA, or Tennessee youth wrestling has. I noticed last season that most KY youth events are held on Sundays while surrounding states have many options on Saturday, so it should be possible to do both. It would just be nice to know when these events are a little further in advance.

Ranger is right......check out of state

It is truly sad when KY USA Wrestling cancels 4 events this year......We have 100 plus schools now on board and NOBODY wants to host tournaments to make money for their programs.....No fault to KY USA Wrestling......It's the coaches to these High School and Middle School programs who need to step up and host events weekly.

Kentucky wrestling will NEVER grow with attitudes like this......

WAKE UP PEOPLE.......Our TEAM KY placed 3rd for the first time EVER in a National competition.......So now it's time to drop the ball ??????........What are we all thinking ?????

I agree with the lack of participation for ky wrestlers. Ranger and I have put together multiple teams during this off season. I did amaze me how difficult is was to fill a team state wide. I would say it ended up being the majority of the same kids each time. I have said it multiple times that I bet those will be the same kids we see at state this year. We are taking a large group to the ohio state fair this weekend. Everyone is welcome to come with us. Send myself of ranger a pm if you have any questions. Go ky wrestling

As far as the elementary tournaments on Sundays go. Most all the elementary teams are coached by the middle school coaches. All the middle school tournaments are on Saturdays.

This weekend we will be at the Ohio State Fair as well. Seems to me there are very few kids in Ky willing to practice, train, conditioning and travel to tournaments year round.

We have learned a lot this year and that will definitely change how we approach next season. The Ohio State Fair is out for us, but he competed the last two weekends in KY; unfortunately, both were very light on the youth turnout. It's kind of a catch 22. We want to see more and better tournaments here in KY, but the only tournaments worth the effort seem to be out of state. We attended every KYUSA event this season/postseason. He is practicing at our university with college guys at least twice a week and conditioning daily all year. Since we don't have much youth wrestling around our part of the state, I think we will try to make some of the open mats in NKY in the future. This seems to be where kids are the most active.

I was just hoping that we could get more organized in listing and advertising our events in KY for the 2012-2013 season. Maybe seeing an actual list of events would encourage more kids/parents to travel to them. It may also get teams from other states to start making the trip to KY. Why not use the fact that we hold most events on Sundays as an asset? I'm sure there are kids from surrounding states that would like to wrestle twice in one weekend - you get double the mat time. That's what my son is planning to do, hit IN, TN, and OH on Saturdays and the KY on Sundays.
