I'd love to know why high school wrestling starts so early in Kentucky. Oct 15th is the start compared to Nov 9th in wrestling crazy Ohio. Makes for a long season and conflicts with a significant portion of the fall sports season. Just curious. I know the state finals are earlier but only by 2 weeks.

Yes it's kind of a blunder and makes it tough for the football kids but they are getting work in and will adjust in time for it to count .

I'm not 100% sure why it officially starts on Oct. 15th, but I'm glad it does because a lot of new programs can get in some good work.

Dunbar is hosting duals on Jan 19. He still needs a team or two. Contact coach Sinclair

All winter sports start on Oct 15th. Wrestling, basketball, swimming.

They will not move the state tourney into march because of the basketball post season.

Lets do a comparison. Ky starts practice on Oct 15th and can wrestle the week of Nov 20th. (26th being that Sat)

--------------------------- Oh starts practice on Nov 9th (25 days later) and starts the week of Nov 28 (Dec 3 being that Sat, 7days later)

Ky state tourney started on Feb 16.

Oh state tourney started March 1 (13 days later)

When you look at it like this Ky pre-season and season lasts 12 days longer.

But Ohio season lasts 6 days longer.

So Ky gets to practice 12 more days than Ohio but Ohio's season is 6 days longer.
