louwrestlingfan, how does switching Fern Creek and Western help? Region 4 goes up to 132 average entries and Region 3 down to 113 if you switch. How does that improve alignment? Remember, realignment is based on average # of entries for the teams. If you are looking at it from a "strength" of region aspect, you are not looking at what KHSAA is looking at. Everyone should remember that strength of teams and regions goes thru cycles. Top teams yesterday are not necessarily the top teams of tomorrow. You can't realign based on past results. Only on the # of participants.

The KHSAA specifically states "Nothing about this discussion factors in anything about competitive balance, history of success or projected ability."

If you look at the nos. in parenthesis it state Fern Creek in reg 4 and Western in 3

RYP is correct. This is just a draft (but probably very close to the final alignmnet). The final draft will be voted on and accepted in January.

Bourbon and Harrison in region 8 seems like quite a stretch.

Louwrestling fan and RYP, Fern Creek belongsout in region 3 because they are next door to the Bullitts. Where I comment that Western belongs in Region 3 is because you have all the Dixie HWY schools (Doss, PRP Holy Cross, Valley, and Western) all in one region and that would probably still have even out the entry balance. If you take out a team it should be Iroquiosand I woould also look to flip flop Moore and Southern.

Region 2 is nuts. Holy crap.

Looks like I'll be doing a lot more driving across the state if this goes through.

Region 2 looks like one of the weakest regions to me.

I think ten years data was way too far back to include. Some of these programs have gone through major changes in just the last few years, which skews these numbers. Not complaining, just pointing out that they may have gone back too far to analyze participation numbers.

The above realignment was approved today. Will go into effect next season.

Wow, travel wise this stinks for Bourbon and Harrison Counties.

Travel wise it sucks, but I'm pretty sure they are both happy with being there.

Why did Khasa do this

To balance regions not by past records but by participants in order to conduct regional tournaments in one day.

The five match rule would have been used for some of the consultation finals in some regions so they had to go to a two day tournament. The new alignment is supposed to fix this issue balancing out the number of teams and participants in reach region and making so each region can be a one day tourney.

As far as Region 2 being weak, they did not loose any teams, they added 4. So they should be a little better than before.

So I made a mistake. Anderson, Boyle, and Danville left Region 2. That is going to make a difference.

If a tournament has more than eight teams it can not be completed in one day with a traditional bracket. I'm sure KHSAA knows this. I believe the realignment was to balance the regions and no to limit the number of days to complete the regional tournament.

Either I'm missing something or they aren't very bright. Anytime you use a a traditional 16 man bracket ( ie more than eight wrestlers) you have to have more than one day to complete the bracket.

I know I'm not very bright. I just repeated what I read as the reason. I guess I'm too gullible. I better watch out believing everything I read on the Internet. We know from the last couple of weeks that can get you in trouble.

You can run a one day tourney if there are 10 or less in a bracket.  (The byes fall so there will be no 6 matches needed)
