KentuckyWrestling.com HS Rankings - 2006/2007 preseason July 28

Topic ID: 895 | 60 Posts

Here they are!  I know it is still July and weights are still fluctuating, but we have seen a lot of good competition this summer and I think a lot more activity in general.  This should make for some good wrestling this winter.

I am listing my top 15 for most weight classes right now.  The exceptions are 103 and 171 which I don't think are deep enough right now to go beyond the top 10.  As always, let me know what you think.

Just curious, but i was wandering how good Steven Watson 189 really is? I had a hard time finding his name at last years results, is he wrestling over the summer or something? Must be doing something to be in the top in the state.

Jaron Singly 189 from Whitley should probrably be on the list he beat several of the guys listed just this summer.

I believe Steven Watson was injured before state last year.

Like ranger said we have a long way to go before December.

Pretty good, but did they change the weight class to 285 or is that i typo... maybe I'm out of the loop.

Who has he beat this summer?  I find it hard to believe he has seen several of the guys ahead of him.  I have him just outside the top 15.

These look really good only thing that I would change is Ryan Houchens being ranked #10 at 189.  I see him definiatly in the top 5 at this weight in my openion.  And I think his preformance at Fargo should be in account almost making AA is an amazing accomplishment.  But well wait and see when the season starts.  Other than that I think the rankings look great. :-D

189 will be a very tough weight.  The tough part is who moves down?  Houchens went a respectable 3-2 at state at 171 last season.  At the top you have the two finalists at 171.  Green took 4th at 189.  Shipp went 2-2 at 189, but lost to Starks and Chaney.  Turner took 8th at 189.  Kelly took 7th at 171.  Benson went 3-2 at 189, losing to Turner and Jacob Watson.  Guiler went 3-2 at 189 losing two close matches to Benson and Winter.  Raleigh went 3-2 at 189 losing a close match to Winter (6th) and Ashworth (7th).

It looks like Ryan is stepping it up, but I'm sure a lot of these other guys are working hard too.  Like I said, this will be a very tough and competitive weight class.

Speaking of those 189s, look at how region 7 is shaping up.  It isn't the region 6 145 pounders of last season (Aylor, Wilson, Cooper), but there are 4 top quality kids here:  Starks, Green, Guiler, and Likoy.  Some region champ will have their hands full in round one with one of those guys come state time.

What about Myron Bradbury?  He should be above Salyers at 103.

What about Myron Bradbury?  He should be above Salyers at 103.

Trinity already has Dan Smith at 103.

What about Myron Bradbury?  He should be above Salyers at 103.

Will Bradbury wrestle for Trinity or follow his brothers at Central Hardin?

Yes the weight class is 285 this year. For all the rule changes check this thread:

thanks ranger for doing these, they are awesome....although we all know there will be some mistakes, but they are always neet to see especially for kids seeing their names on here!  thanks for the hard work!

steven watson should be higher on the rankings sheet he is much better then an 11th place finish but i gues we will have to wait to see him wrestle before you move him up but the rankings are good but i think jackson should be at least number 2 at 140  or even number one

OK I know this is extremely early but I was wondering where the other Region 6 103's are.  You have only T.J. Bates and Steve Supe ranked this year.  T.J. won the 6th region but Supe only placed 6th.  What about Chitwood 2nd in region 6, Vaughn 3rd in region 6 last year and Wren 5th at region 6 last year.  Vaughn defeated both Wren and Supe last year in the regional. Wren defeated Supe for 5th.  I also believe Supe lost to Wren in the middle school region.

I don't want to take anything from Supe, but why are the other 3 left out?

FYI- Looks like Parks will be at 119.

I think the rankings look Really Good....good job again Ranger....I wonder why they dont have you do the ACTUAL rankings...

There are no (Actual) official rankings in KY

Only time will tell.

The actions on the mat dictate who should, would move up or down.

Ranger123 is in charge for KentuckyWrestling.com's rankings.

The KWCA rankings are completley different.

I'm guessing you were refering to the KWCA rankings as the "actual" rankings. The only way any KY rankings would be the state's official rankings is if they were done by the KHSAA... but I'd rather them stick to keeping up with regulations and records.

yeah i know what youmean there and i like the rankings i think it gives the wrestlers something to work for and when they see there name it gives the convidnce to do better and the ones who aint on it they will work harder to beat the man to beat

jaron singly from whitley county is going 171 next year

Good catch.  The others are just further down the list.  Supe should be lower.  Plus, I did miss Wren.

It would be nice if at state when they announce different wrestlers wrestling on each mat and they tell there rankings, if they used KentuckyWrestling.com's rankings. Could it happen?

Good catch.  The others are just further down the list.  Supe should be lower.  Plus, I did miss Wren.

Chitwood and Vaughn both have the capabilities to defeat Bates and I believe Chitwood did at least once.  I think all three of these kids should get equal consideration.

Where I see a difference is that Bates seemed to end the year wrestling really well (better than the others).  He lost a questionable match to Brownfield at state that prevented him from potentially medalling (not sure about him getting by Voth).  Bottom line is that they all go into region equal.  Bates stepped it up and took the championship.

Chitwood and Vaughn both have the capabilities to defeat Bates and I believe Chitwood did at least once.  I think all three of these kids should get equal consideration.

I believe Chitwood pinned & decisioned Bates during the season.  Not sure what Vaughn has done against Bates in the past, is he planning on going 103?  But like Ranger said, Bates stepped it up at the end of the year.  He wrestled a great tournament at regionals when it really mattered and the title was on the line, he beat Chitwood.  Not sure how much Chitwood was cutting last year, but that may have had something to do with it.  It seems to me that cutting too much weight effects you a lot more at the end of the year than in the beginning.

I'm not doubting that Bates should be higher. As you stated he stepped up when it counted.  My only agument is that Vaughn and Chitwood were left off the list when they are of similar calaber of Bates.  Especially when Supe was added to the list.

gotcha....good point, i agree with you there.

ok 2 clear things up about fern creek caleb wood is looking at going 112 & malcolm jackson is looking at going 140 so i think this can change the season round a little.

I agree that would change things a bit.  I would love to see Caleb and Sullivan and Jackson and Thuneman go at it.  But I'm not ready to move them yet.  Why would Caleb cut the weight this year when he didn't last year.

Eville DAD - you have to chim in on this :-o Caleb Wood at 112. He can look at it but I honestly don't see it from him or his parents.

Someone hear is

I've heard the same rumors, but its a long way till the season starts!

I dont think its as hard to believe considering that Calebs older brother wrestled 112 his Senior year. Caleb may have hit a plateau with his weight to where its easier for him than before.

Their family has been involved with wrestling for a long time, they know what they are doing. I'm sure all involved, parents, coaches and Caleb will be talking to make the right decision for Caleb and the team!

Caleb is looking at 112.  His brother was 119 his junior year and dropped to 112 his senior year and that surprised some people.  Caleb is weighing about 120 right now and eats like a horse.

Ok someone explain this to me....why would Wood go to 112?  If Voth, Lewis and Ervin are at 125, who would possible be at 119?  Not too tuff of a weight class if you ask me...Parks, Johnson...and whomever.  No offense to the other 119'ers but I don't see much else.  I'd take my chances with those guys before dealing with Sullivan.  Good luck to Caleb if he wants to try Sullivan but from the outside(me), looking in, I haven't seen the look in his eyes you need to beat Sullivan.

Just my opinions.

Tanner wedding at 152 goes to evansville memorial i wrestled him at mater dei last year. He just lives in kentucky i dont think he wrestles in  it

i totally agree about sullivan it is going to take a man to beat sullivan he is good on the mat and on his feet i dont if wood is good enough to beat sullivan but we will i think that sullivan is underestmated cause sure lack of wieght if i was in the postion to go 103 and win a state title i would to but when he moves to 112 this year i dont think hew will have a problem winning his 3rd strait i went to the junior olympics and open tournaments with them guys and sullivan dont only hadle the guys from hear but the ones from all across the country some of the best wrestlers in the nation and i see him pin the guy in the finals at the junior olympics including the ohio sampsons kid who on a team made up of state champs so he will not beat in ky or any other place that comes around for him in his high school career including making great show at senior and junior nationals in my opion he will be one of the top 5 top ever come threw here like him or not he is that good and i doubted a little before i seen soem of the shows he put on like at the scholastic nationals in pigeon forge tennesse where he pinned threw as well so we will see what happens but i see wood not having a good showing against sullivan :?

Thank was my point, I now Calebs parents are very involved in this decisions as well as the coaching staff.  If Caleb can make 112 safety and have a beat chance of inning a title and help his team then great.

It would be a great Match Wood vs Sullivan.

I guess then Caleb isn't too woried about college prospects?  Not many colleges look below 19 unless you've got a Ruschelle or Murton quality wrestler. I'm not saying they won't, but being at 119 makes thins a hell of a lot esier for Wood all the way around.

I truly don't think thats all they look at.

I see numerous kids to wrestle in college on partial $$$ values and they aren't special even in Kentucky, maybe place finisher at best.

Then you are assuming Caleb plans to wrestle after high school.

Caleb is successful on and off the mat, I think his college options are many and varied, if he chooses to wrestle beyond high school I know he has options available regardless of what weight he wrestles his SR. year.

The last time sullivan lost in kentucky it was to caleb wood. And Wood pin him in les then 1min.

Was that Sullivan's 8th grade year?  Plus as Wood knows, things can change a lot from year to year.....

You hit the nail  right on, we have personally known Caleb 4 years and he is a first class young gentlman both on and off the mat.

eville dad - congrads to  at Fargo.  Did he get a hiar cut yet :-o

Another first class gentleman :-D

steven watson is better then 11th i see him in the top 3 at state next year noone at 71 or 89 on that list has beat him  but that means he is gonna have to work harder to prove something

im gonna get my 112 weigh-ins & most likely wrestle 119 at the tournaments & when it comes 2 regionals then i'll make my decision on what i will wrestle at state.

All or none its my senior year

he just put that arguement to rest......i like it.

he just put that arguement to rest......i like it.

yes....yes he did...

just to let you all know robbie vaughn from simon kenton beat bates at cumberland anyway vaughn was weighing more but still he beat bates 9 to nothing that has to show something and vaughn has been goin to tournaments and he is trying to hit a couple camps and also his brother ryan vaughn should be in the top 10 around 152 because him having a cooper as his partner the whole year has to be something

Ranger123..Tommy warren has been beat by most the 112s ranked below him...whys he so high??

Ranger123..Tommy warren has been beat by most the 112s ranked below him...whys he so high??

I've seen Tommy wrestle a lot over the years and he is still young and improving.  I didn't see him wrestle against any of those guys (or see results posted), plus he was a 103 last season.  I think he will be a solid 112 this season and has some great workout partners.

look at most recent rankings

if Sulivan goes 119 there might be a problem, he might have to cut off his toes, or something, or he will really be need to watch his health for kidney failure in his future. Watch him coach!!!!!

i dont see him having to sacrifice his toes . I seen him wrestle over the summer he didnt look that big to me, although he did have shoes on so i didnt get a good look at the size of his toes!

Travis Sullivan wrestled at the junior olympics in Virginia at 112 and went 10 and 0.Unless his shoe size has doubled in size , i dont think he will have a problem making weight

you have to remember football coaches try to make there players look as big as possible and in wrestling your trying to be as small as possible
