Lafayette
Topic ID: 9041 | 80 Posts
trinity is going
Anderson co, bishop fenwick (oh), bourbon co, bryan station, Christian vo, danville, fern creek, Franklin co, grant, Henry clay, j town, lafayette, Louisville male, Madison cent, Montgomery co, Moore, north hardin, paducah tilghman, dunbar, Scott co, tates creek, trinity , Walton verona, western hills.
Central will also be there.
Should be a few good match ups such as Tevon Clay and Kory Polley.
Heavyweight will be stacked. Danville, grant, and lafayette. Young has had sting wins over the the 6th, 8th, 10th, and 11th ranked wrestlers, be interested to see how he does against danville and grant. All grades wrestkers and good kids
Young was ranked 14 th ?????being a fresh its hard to get noticed untill later in the yr . I'm sure he lands much higher next ranking .
Don't count out boy from male
Yeah, he is tough too. Anderson kid and Scott co too. Lots of good teams this weekend, should be a good one
according to trackwrestling B Bryant has only wrestled 285 so far. He stays there, a bunch of heavys are not going to be excited to wrestle him
Probably not , money says he cuts to 220 for the main event
Don't forget Fern Creek's heavyweight, Gabe Lord. Senior ranked #6. Undefeated on the year. Didn't wrestle at Male, his father passed away Thursday. Long term illness. Gabe is doing well and will be back to his second family on Tues and is looking forward to the challenge at Lafayette this weekend.
Sorry to hear that , best of luck to that young man this year ,
Our prayers and thoughts go out to Gabe and his family.....Glad he will be back out on the mat this week and looking forward to watching him wrestle in the Lafayette Invitational.....May God bless Gabe and his family.
Is this ran like the old 5 Star, or will it be a bracket individual tournament?
Individual bracket tournament
And I was mistaken, I thought young had beat gabe this weekend, but it was his backup. Prayers to him and his family.
Is Trinity bringing their "A" team?
True170, your right, 145 looks awesome! Polley and Clay should meet in the finals, but no easy day for either of them. If everyone is at the weight that they are ranked, 145 will have #1 Polley Ch. Co., #3 Clay FC, #6 Jones WV, #10 Green Laff., #14 Smith Trin., and #15 Aiken TC! That's a pretty solid line up of guys. Should be very interesting!
#14 C. Smith unless something has changed should still be at 152. He was there for the Rumble. Think he only lost to Jones by 2.
I heard Taylor County is going to be there but don't see them on the list. Will they be there?
mpire , do you know anything about bishop fenwick,oh .
I happend to look them up yesterday and didn't find much. They are D3 and looked like fielded about 10-12 kids. Looked through several sets of rankings, didn't see any of their kids. Obviously, I'm not Mpire, just saw a question that I knew a little about.
thank you
I have heard of them as far as heavy hitting I do not think they are stacked .as already stated
Any predictions on this weekend??
Top teams are:
Walton, Trinity and Moore all 3 top 10 teams
Top teams are:
Walton, Trinity and Moore all 3 top 10 teams
Thank you for the motivation.....I like Lafayette, Franklin Co. , Henry Clay and Fern Creek to make a lot of noise too....!!!!
Yeah fern creek has alot of talent that i believe has potential to do something.
Heard Fern Creek is pretty tough, and if Laf. gets healthy they will be too. Saw where Franklin Co. is kind of hit and miss with a couple of tough kids. The Ageyman kid is really good, should do well this year, Clay seems to be on his game, but looks out if shape. Time will tell.
what weight is ageyman going this weekend?
I've only seen him at 132.
Most bracket format tournaments don't necessarily favor a good dual team....Matchups, seedings and how deep.......Lots of parity among 8 or 9 teams in here ....Who has the most firepower into the quarters and semis usually will determine a winner....sometimes you get finals separating those top 5 teams....Matchups will be the key and what round these matchups occur.....This tournament lineup is solid, but lacks the powerhouse teams like Campbell Co, Union, Simon Kenton, Woodford and a few others. It is loaded with some great talent that hit the podium at state last year. Should be an awesome day of wrestling with the best Silent Auction, Hospitality Room and Tournament Directors around.....If you are in the Lexington area, we invite you all out to one of the best tournaments around !
Alright I am going to gives this a shot.

I doubt Whalen is at 113 he weighed in at 124 for horsepower last weekend
Didnt moore's hall beat rearic in the rumble finals?
Roth has been going 113
Whalen cannot go 113....120 is the lowest he can go this year
You left out Hall from Moore at 113
Hernandez brothers have been going 113
Torgeson from Lafayette will play a part at 120
Angel Vasquez will surprise everyone at 126 from Lafayette
Jimmy Kaindu is a name you will hear lots about...trust me....Lafayette 132 or 138
Blaze Tremblay from Lafayette 138 or 145
Jon Green was still at 152 last time out....
Jacob Marshall will be another to watch out for at 160 from Lafayette
Transfer Sam Quigney at 170...bumped up for now to fill Jackson Avant's spot
Landon Young or Michael Moaga at 285....2 very good Hvy's from Lafayette
You left out Caleb Austin at 120....Should be a factor as well !!!!
Didnt moore's hall beat rearic in the rumble finals?
Yes sir....beat him 2-1
Sorry leaving out Hall was a mistake. Somehow i forgot him.
Fatboy has got some game! He may have left a few out (which he conceded) but let the tourney commence and we will compare his predictions after the dust settles. I bet he's got more than a couple right.
One of my favorite wrestlers, Clay Brown has been going 145 so far this year....I could see him go to 138 for this, but I bet he takes a shot at 145 !!!!.
My three other picks are the Agyeman brothers at 132 and 152....Frederick and Roderick.....and then Tevon Clay....watch out, he can go !!!!!
Rearic vs. Hall pt. II. That will be a match to watch!
I would say Cox at 152 from fern creek gets close to placing but misses out. Henry Clay has a 152 that has a good shot at placing 4th
Cormel Floyd is not wrestling for Central this year.
Why not? He seemed to have alot of potential and could go deep at state this year!
I agree. He decided to concentrate on getting ready academically for college. I respect his decision but totally do not agree with it. His academics were fine. Let's just say he would easily clear for college and already has a scholarship. We will be fine at that class.
Yeah he was an overall great kid, kind of sucks that we wont be able to see him wrestle this year.

clay wrestled 138 for coaches classic last weekend but is going 145 for lafayette. looking forward to that bracket.
I figured that this thread would be blowing up tonight. All I hear is crickets...Chirping...... How did the seeds work out? Who's going where? Any surprises?
Heard today that Polley won't be there.
Seeds?
This looks to be a strong early season tournament. There is about 70 ranked kids that could wrestler tomorrow. Looks like Heavys have the most with 7 kids ranked in the top 16. Plus no. 2 at 220 Bryant is wrestling heavy also. 170 also seems strong with 6 rank kids plus its sounds like Lane Jones is at 170 also.
clay wrestled 138 for coaches classic last weekend but is going 145 for lafayette. looking forward to that bracket.
Clay Brown vs Tevon Clay in final.
R. Agyeman wins first place after opponent from North Hardin punches him and gets disqualified.
Tevon Clay wins first place.
Was the north Hardin kid trea wills?
Correction: They both got DQ'd. I'm getting this second hand from my son. Evidently, it got pretty crazy. Only N Hardin threw punches though. Don't know the wrestler's name now.
Wow that's pretty crazy
Told you don't count out that Cundiff 138 from Male!
Hall vs. Rearic?????????? Final score?
A few kids missing from what ive seen some in the two top finishing teams. Where was Kahl, and Rosado?
Both kids were out for this tournament also moore's 170 and trinity 132 got injured early. All four of those guys would have been high placers.
Yes they would.
Was moore also missing a 132?
Yes Jesus rosado who placed 6th at 126 last year
113 Rearic vs Hall II good match Hall score takedown for the win with 3sec left.
120 Duncan wrestled from a pigtail to the finals and won very impressive.
126 had the single most impressive victory of the day Heidorf majored a returning state champ Whalen(106).
132 was a mess. That display is the oppisite of what makes wrestling great
138 Alot of cloes matches from the quarters to the finals
145 Very good finals match 2 state contenders in the finals with Clay winning a close one.
152 The best match was in the semi between Jones and Smith. !st time they met Jones won in triple OT. This time he won 6-2 but it was 1 point until late in the third. Jones went on to t-fall win in the final.
I missed most of 160 182 195 and 220 but Mcdaniel Mclirath both looked impressive the small bits I got to see them.
But the 2 most dominate performances came in the 2 most stacked weight classes 170 Heavy. Jones blew up a his weight class that had six kids ranked in the top 20, with tech pin pin and a finals pin. Looking forward to Canter vs Jones.
Heavy Bryant was simply dominate. The heavys 7 of the top 16 he wrestled for less than 3min in his 4 matches, I actually thought i might see a heavy get MOW. I have been to a tournament where that happened. I was most impressed by the fact the he was the most physical guy in every match. Looking forward to Troxell vs Bryant no more boring heavywieghts.
Congrats to the tourny director , everything was run to perfection.
I don't understand how Agyeman gets DQ'd. I have heard 3 accounts, all say the NH kid threw a punch to the nose and dropped Agyeman. Agyeman was stunned from the punch and did not punch back.
I was told the NH kid was WAY amped up and immediately upon the whistle drove FC into the scorer's table. They were reset, and NH poked FC in the eye, and tied up really hard with FC. FC drove forward and snapped NH's head down hard and NH came up punching. Landed a punch flush to FC's nose and dropped him.
The same kid from NH stomped Nathan thompsons head from desales twice at KOB trying to get out of a single with short time left and some how both refs on the mat happened to not see it
Sounds like a dirty wrestler to me!!!

How can you give a play by play if you weren't there?
Let's celebrate the great day of wrestling and all of the wrestlers that competed rather than a senseless act that has no place in wrestling.
Coach I do agree.....great day of wrestling and probably one of the best tournaments next to state I have ever been to and a part of....The issue , however needs to be addressed and this is an open forum....There has to be an EXAMPLE set and repurcussions MUST take place . It is obvious this isn't the first time this wrestler has had an incident...I feel the KHSAA needs to investigate....we need to discuss so this NEVER happens again.....Just my opinion and if you feel it best to steer away from it we can.
Third Round.....I agree. But let the KHSAA do their part. My fear is this overshadows the tournament that has so many story lines. For example, Hudson Heidorf and Bobby Bryant.... Wow. A second year program finishing 9th with a champion. Trinity and Moore going into the finals tied. Lafayette showing they are a contender in 7 as well as Franklin and Henry Clay. Paul Couch upsetting many on the way to the HVY Finals. The list goes on and on.
I thought that 2nd year program {MALE} impressed me the most...and Montgomery being right in the thick of it.....I must say, from the officiating and 99% showed us the competitive and sportsmanship this sport is all about.....Thanks Coach for making it the perfect tournament for High School wrestling....I imagine teams will be begging to get into it next year !
I may be biased to that second year team. It was a great tournament. And you did a great job helping make it run smoothly.
I almost forgot...hats off to Coach Hitchings at Fern Creek...something special is happening right now like it is at Male.....Very impressed with those 2 squads the most and Walton Verona...Coach Barnes has it going on...!!!!
I may be biased to that second year team. It was a great tournament. And you did a great job helping make it run smoothly.
I took out 20 bags of garbage last night...just doing my part !!!!
If what has been discussed did happen, I don't see any problem discussing it on this forum. You can't ignore the negatives and just discuss the positives. If Coach McCoy saw a "senseless act that has no place in wrestling", then the behavior must be addressed.
Old grappler, I think there was compliment in there. Thank you. There was an ugly seen in the 132 finals and beyond and I agree it should and will be discussed. Unfortunately, it could over shadow what was a great day of wrestling and that is my point. We can discuss it but let's also talk about what was great about the tournament. The negative does not always have to outweigh the positives. Just my opinion.
Male is a good team. Alot of tough wrestlers.
Any time a kid is ejected for an act deemed flagrant misconduct, the National Federation of High Schools governing body dictates that wrestler is held out of competition. The KHSAA is obligated to comply with this suspension. I watched this same kid in his semi finals match, and made the comment before the finals started that this particular kid is a ticking time bomb waiting to go off, that it was just a matter of getting on the mat with a kid that would give it back to him and thats exactly what happened. Hopefully when he comes back from being held out of competition his coaches can rein him in a bit. Besides the one little bit of extra curricular activity was a pretty good tournament.
How can you give a play by play if you weren't there?
That's what my son texted me from mat side.
113 Rearic vs Hall II good match Hall score takedown for the win with 3sec left.
120 Duncan wrestled from a pigtail to the finals and won very impressive.

Congrats to the tourny director , everything was run to perfection.
3min 2 sec in three matches not under 3 min im 4 no one ever wrestles for any time in a default , lol but very impressive nonetheless .
Part of what hurt Moore was we had several guys already have 5 matches in the day and had to forfeit their final match of the day and lose the placing/advancement points to other teams. If I remember right from that night we had 4 guys who forfeited their final match and got fourth instead of the possibility of third. Then to lose by only 7 when if just a couple of those 4 kids had won (one forfeit was to a Trinity wrestler as well) it may have been a different outcome...man I wish 6 matches in a day would happen!! And we had three guys who got stuck in the losing bracket early and only had two or three matches all day, that hurt as well. And had three varsity starters still not in the lineup.
