Yes big upset!!!!! Smith WV got caught in a head and arm and got stuck. I'm sick to my stomach... I love that kid!!!!!
The ref called a awfully quick pin to.. I still can't believe it.
Another thing on malcahey's first match he was up 4-3 with 14 seconds left. They didn't start the clock and I'd say they wrestled for about ten seconds before they started it. Well in thT time the other kid got a reversal and back points. The whole WV corner is yelling the clock the clock. Well I dont know the rule for sure but I thought they had to start over from where the click was no points to either? But they didn't do that. They let the kid keep his reversal and bp points and put time back on the clock

so true it happened to me before also.. But it actualy made me sick to my stomach today when it happened to him. He is such a great kid and wrestler. You get close to these kids and it just kills you when things happen like that. That's why we constantly tell these kids be ready anything can happen.That's terrible for Mason Smith, very tough kid and in my opinion best kid in the state at 98. That stinks , Mason is a beast , head and arm is always a threat and a last ditch move for most kids , can happen to anyone , but yes hate to see it happen to such a dedicated hard working kid , best bet is to recover move on and show it was a fluke he has great jr high experience that will roll over into HS he will bounce back and have his day .
I always like to see the better wrestler win. Hard work, dedication, and skill should always win!
It's not the best wrestler who wins a tournament. It's the wrestler with the best tournament who wins.
Luckily and hopefully for these young men they will have plenty of future opportunities to compete.

Well, my opinion on the subject is the 140 for Woodford Co. He beat my kid twice this year and I have watched him several times. He is technically sound. I thought the 140 for Trigg would be a match for him, but he tech fall'd him. Anyway. Thought I'd weigh in.
The closet match the 140 has had all year was by the kid from Johnson Central (Gamble) he wrestled tonight in the finals. He beat him 3-1 in the regional finals. Androni is good but he's not on Blantons level as a wrestler right now. They already robbed Blanton from a MOW at regionals by giving it to the Woodford kid but no way he wins it over him this time. I think it had to either be Blanton or Sheffer( I thunk that's how you spell it) for MOW.
Yeah Blanton is from the same county as my son. They both wrestle for the Johnson County middle school team. But just about 6 years difference in age...lol
Kearns is a great wrestler but I still think Blanton and Sheffer dominated in a more fashionable way.
How did Kearns do in the finals? Between district region and first two rounds of state Coltyn hasn't been out of the first period. That's dominate- semis he pins with ease in the second. Idk what he did in the finals thou as I am not their

Have to admit I've not seen Blanton before, but my son said he made one experienced kid look like a rookie today. I wasn't sure who was talking about when he told me, but I looked at the bracket and it had to be Blanton. I know Adreoni is solid so if Blanton is better, wow.
I understand that's dominating. But Blanton would've tech pinned his first 3 kids if he didn't let them up and was still up by no less than 12 points on each when he pinned them with all coming no later than the second period. Kearns is a beast and I wouldn't try to take anything away from the kid he's great. I just feel Blanton was the best overall wrestler there today with the best skill set.
Blanton is defiantly a viable candidate and is truly deserving of MOW without a doubt. But not a lock for it. Cornet and the 230 from Conner are deserving as well. In my opinion it should be between those 3
I agree first match back is tough on most kids usually it gets out of their system and they start clicking If they don't gas

Mason came back and took 3rd. I'm sure he was disappointed, but this loss will only make him better down the road. That kid is a hammer and will be a stud for years to come. Congrats to him and his family for an awesome season.

Concerned with how a kid deals with a big loss and are always impressed by a kid wrestling. Ack for third in a big one , it all good he will get his title one day making it all the sweeter , he will work on the roll throughs and tie ups head and arms suck
Yea mason came back and tool 3rd!!! I don't think the kid that beat him even placed!! Just shows you anything can happen. Mason is a awesome kid and will learn from that and come back stronger and better.

Thanks for all the great things people had to say about mason. I know he was very disappointed to fall a little short of his goal this year. I can say I was very proud of him to pull his self together and wrestle back. As a father I hurt for him. Wrestling is a very emotional sport for the kids as well as us coaches and parents. Thanks again for all the people that were rooting for him
Wanted to also say great job to Joey Roberts for winning a title. His dad is a great guy. I know he has to be proud of him.

Blue just turned 9 and Geordon is 14 so now it's just a 5 year difference bad math on my part...lol. Yeah Geordon has been wrestling middlenschool for a while I think he started when he was in 2nd grade the same as Blue.

What about Branch at 130? Did not have a point scored against him the whole tournament.
Wasn't there so don't know for sure. My gut tells me sheffer got it because of his entire body of work and 4 titles. Especially if this is the first state mow for him (don't recall if he's received one at state...don't believe so.) Coaches probably felt he deserved it for that reason alone. Also, the heavier weights aren't usually as competitive. There is usually A lot more balance in the lighter weights and frankly more talent and way more technique. Might not like it but seems to be the case year in and year out. That being said I didn't see too much of this years talent in middle school so don't know for sure.
By the way by saying heavys got the shaft diminishes Sheffers MOW which I'm sure is well deserved. Be happy the young man won a state title which is more than most will ever accomplish.
I agree hvys do get overlooked but not always , they are expected to pin more than lighter weights which isn't always fair , and most people believe they are not as competitive or skill stacked as lightweights wich is generally true but it usually takes a different type of athlete a different set of skills to do well as a big kid . If a big kid continuously dominates he will get his props but I think they have to be much more of a standout than the lighter weight guys . And Mow are usually popularity contests rather than actual tourny performance awards , go for the pin award or something your kid can control its more rewarding .
No matter who wins MOW there will always be other opinions .

I agree wky. There were a lot of good options this year. I had a hard time choosing. 113 as well as 92 had some good showdowns along the way. A number of weights had kids that were flat out dominant. Tough tough call. Many deserving kids this year.
Not a bad idea to consider a lightweight and heavyweight.

I was at the mat when the Smith kid got pinned, I thought it was a good call on the pin. I'm not a fan of the head and arm, but he got caught and the kid from Central Hardin is strong. The kid from Central Hardin placed either 5th or 6th I'm not sure. Smith came back and wrestled terrific, I believe he stuck his opponent for 3rd.
The other match I also happened to be at that mat, IMO, I thought the correct wrestler won the match. Even if the clock didn't start for 10 sec, I thought he got the reversal within that last 4 seconds, not sure there was any time for near fall points. I didn't know either kid and it would be awful for either kid to have to lose that way. I don't know what the rule was on the call either, our match was delayed probably 10 minutes while the head ref tried to figure out that call. Waiting to coach the next match though, I thought he had the reversal and the win. That's just my opinion though.
Did anybody see Oxford's standing granby in the semis? He was on bottom, stood up, the guy did a lift and return. On the way down, Oxford's feet touched for just a second and he granby'd for an escape. What a move! I think the middle school competition has improved tremendously, even from last year.

Looking back at the brackets Blues first match burns me up. He and Decker had a great match but I thought Blue should've had 3 back points instead of 2 when he hit the first whip. Then he hits the whip again and puts Decker on his back again and gets nothing. then with about 10 seconds left I thought he should've had the escape point when they went out of bounds. But I don't want to take anything away from Decker he's a great wrestler and won the match. Congrats to him and all the middle school kids that placed you all did great and deserve all you get. Looking forward to next year and seeing Blue on the podium one day.

I don't really understand this statement, either in content or grammar. The only reason Fooks got beat was the referee allowed the kid to run away and stall out the entire match. Had the kid wrestled, Fooks would have worn him out. Fooks threw the kid around like a bag of flour when the kid had to get down and wrestle in the third period. Hats off to the kid for winning. Doubt it should have happened, but hey, thats why they are called upsets.

I could not agree more. Kearns had no competition this year. I am very curious to see how well he does when the competition matures physically, because they will.

Sinclair is a junior but much much bigger than keairns.
He was giving up over 30 pounds and lost two very competitive matches. Losing to Weber in ride or die and then up on Sinclair 4-1 in the second before getting swallowed by him.

Looked like more than 30 to me. Colton is a strong boy but that is a lot of weight. Get out of position for one second and bad things can happen.
It did to me as well. Let me ask you is the hwy max at 285? If its at 285 then in some cases Colytn could have been giving up 55 pounds. He only weighed in at 229

The Anderoni kid must be pretty good. He won the 138lb weight class yesterday for Woodfordcounty in region 7. Now hes on to High School state.

Your wrong I didn't take anything away from the kid. The kid is a great wrestler and deserved every point he was awarded. I said that in my post. The only thing I brought to light was my opinion along with many others there that day. Decker is great and I would never say any different but so is Blue and IMO he should have been awarded more back points. He wasn't Decker won I congratulated him and said he did a good job. Which he did. His parents should be very proud of him as I am Blue. I would also say if they thought their son wasn't awarded what he earned they would want to vent a little also. Which I would have no problem with.
